“It’s like picking a favorite child”…and then your pupper walks across the background
She knows who the favorite child is 😂🐶❤
I was thinking the same thing lol
I qualified for SNAP as a full time student during covid. $281 per month for single me was so much money! I had to start getting some more expensive stuff because my leftover every month was really building up. I'm losing my covid help next month. I'm being very intentional and thinking long term with my last bit. My freezer and pantry are so full! While ill probably find myself skrimping, im definitely rolling into this transition with so much built up. Lots of frozen veg, oats, and chicken for me!
Good for you for thinking ahead.
Covid help?
Snap monthly amounts don't expire they roll over. Even if you no longer qualify you can use the credit on your card. Please know the rules
@@annkrull9894bless your heart
@@ericksonsails Apparently full time students who were pell eligible were also eligible for SNAP! I had no idea until the very end when my university emailed me to tell me to hurry and apply before the program ended. So I did. I have 6 months of assistance, which i'm thankful for but MAN. I could've saved so much in student loans!
I go grocery shopping for my family of 3 twice a month. I’m spending $400 total. Working on cutting that down to $300. One big thing is we do fruit, yogurt, and homemade baked goods for snacks. That helps save a ton. Junk food is so expensive!
It is!! Well done!!
$400 is actually really good and I would be very careful on going any less than that
@@corianne2099Why? If she can find the same food for less money, I say go for it! The extra money can be used to pay off some bills or just saved to buy groceries in the future when everything will continue to go up except wages.
If there is a time you can get it down for less I say , DO it. However, $400/ 3 people / month isn't an unreasonable amount to spend on groceries. it comes out to be $133/ person for the month or $33.00 / week. And, if that amount also ilncludes cleaning supplies, toiletries, pet food then I would say you are doing a great job.
I do same in Ireland . Our prices would not be as high on the organic stuff and we very lucky ! Milk organic and sourdough bread is cheaper but I bake a batch of muffins for myself and my little lad for snacks few times a week . Fruit and cream is a desert after dinner and can be hell lot cheaper than junk food ! I can have baked peaches 3 nights a week with mascone cheese and it only cost me €3 for my son and I to eat !
I never knew the USDA had "budget" guidelines for grocery shopping, which I found very interesting. I'm single with a cat. It varies what I spend a month but I try not to go over $275. That does include cleaning, toiletry and cat items. I have gone to the farmers market and bought food that was about to go bad and freeze. I bought $1.00 bags of whatever and when I got home, freeze it. It works for me. You just have to find what works and doesn't for you and your family. It takes time but once you got it.... you got it!
A new Aldi just opened near my house yesterday! I can't wait to go shopping this afternoon 🎉
I recommend to do a comparison with Walmart. I've found Walmart (Great Value brand) is cheaper than Aldi on about 75% of the things I buy regularly.
@@stephaniegaddis1716Aldi is cheaper here in Kentucky plus that don’t add natural favoring or bio engineered food. Walmart is bad for bioengineered food
@@robinholbrook8296they carry more organic food than other grocery stores...there was just a big article written about that
Just know your pricing but I confess, I love Aldi for basics. And the occasional “splurge” on some high quality items which are less expensive than my other stores. Don’t forget your quarter for the shopping basket, lol. And, take your own bags or scrounge for empty boxes otherwise you have to buy bags for 10 cents each. I take canvas totes with me. Happy shopping!
Wish we had winco in FL. I love their bulk bins. The fact that people here do all of their shopping at publix blows my mind. It’s so expensive. Thankful for aldi!
ME TOO! South Florida is much more expensive than other areas in the country. I NEVER find clearance meat like Christine finds.
Publix is SO expensive. The least expensive grocery store in our town is Walmart. I wish there was a chain of store around that had bulk bins.
@reniedavisson8532 that's crazy I get clearance meat if I go early on Long Island, NY, in a very expensive area! I NEVER find clearance produce though 🥺
I ADORE Publix. But I shop them like I do anywhere: sales only + ibotta. I think it seriously takes some juggling and thought to buy groceries without being broke these days. It's insane. I don't buy anything at Wal-Mart but canned/frozen veggies & toiletries. Aldi is wonderful for fresh produce and dairy.
I do not live near a Publix but when I vacation in Florida, I appreciate they are very good sales and the Ibotta rebates
I lived in Portland, OR, for 31 years. Winco changed names and buildings 3 times and I followed them wherever they moved. Hands down the best place to get groceries except, as you said, meat. I bought meat from Safeway and Fred Meyers (Kroger). After 5 years retired in Vicksburg, MS, my two sisters and I are ready to move back to the Portland metro area. Whenever we visit, Winco is my first stop. Love that store. Hoping to move back within a year.
I am in a budget challenge group. The dollar amount changes every month. This week for $40. I spent $40.38. Walmart came through with all the discounts and mark downs. 1 week for 3 - 3 meals a day. 21 meals. I did it.
I was so excited. I am in North Mississippi near Memphis. I really would not want this budget al the time.
Hi! What is "budget challenge group"?
I just found you today! I love your approach to frugal AND healthy. There are lots of “cheap meal” videos that are packed with only processed foods. They have their place of course but meals and snacks with fresh meats and produce…love it!
I live in Eastern Canada where food is considerably more expensive but I spend considerably less than that recommended amount to feed my family of 4. We spend $750/month for 2 adults & 2 teenagers, 2 of which are dairy-free and 3 of us are competative athletes.
As for favourite grocery stores, my two favourites are Sobeys & Fresh Cuts Market (small independent grocery store)
Canadian here too. Our groceries prices are definitely more than in the USA for sure. We also try to stay around 800$/month for 2 adults and 2 teens..... it's challenging.
I ear raw for about 80 to 100 a week. That's organic watermelon grapes, cantaloupe. Not all I eat is organic the lemons, grapefruit, avocado is not. Yes I juice so it's more. Getting my lymphatic going juice and high fruits....I don't get sick anymore Bonus the whole family will be down and I'm totally fine.
My wife and I typically spend about $60 a week on groceries, and there have been some weeks where we’ve spent as little as $50. We eat a predominantly plant based diet, so we buy lots of beans and lentils. Occasionally we’ll buy a chicken if it’s a loss leader or on sale, but it’s mostly fresh veggies and fruits. And it’s such a healthy way to eat too.
Not bad at all! I just stocked up on oatmeal yesterday though- 50lbs of oats at $0.76/lb! All praise the Amish store!!
Sorry this just doesn’t fly in NYC. And I shop the sales and go to multiple stores. A bag of potatoes like the one you shopped at Winco is between $4.99 to $9.99 depending on the time of year. And I’m not even exaggerating.
I like in Brooklyn and it works for me. Do you shop the outdoor produce guys? I also find great deals at Ideal Foods and Foodtowns around town.
I just went to Winco today and bought a 25 lb bag of white rice for $18.48. That will last my family for months, and we eat a lot of rice! I don’t go to Winco often but it sure helps my overall grocery budget to stock up there once in a while.
Thank you for keeping me inspired to stay on budget! 💚
Love her passion and she makes it super easy to follow and understand. ❤
Love your video, and you read my mind, lol . I was just thinking about where and how to start, and this video gave me some great ideas, so thank you so much!!!
Yay! Excited to watch!
I love ur videos! Encouraging frugality, no waste is the way to go!
Yay! I've been waiting on a Winco haul for ages 🎉
Excellent information!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Love you
I LOVE the healthy focus!!
Great video! Thanks!
We LOVE Aldi & Walmart 🎉 & I absolutely love your channel! So glad I found you just 3-4 months ago. Legit life changing 🙌🏼💕
Hi Christine! I love your videos! I love how you teach good common sense on how to cook/shop on a budget! I wish I had your advice 20 years ago when I was trying to survive in my younger working years. I did make your cheddar cheese soup the one you make your family when they had braces and the one your mom made you! I’m a little intimidated to bake bread from scratch but I m watching your videos and learning and building confidence. Don’t stop what your doing! Love your channel so very much! ❤ Blessings
LOVE WINCO!!!! Yes and so good if you ask for something special order
Aldi is my favorite and so are most of your recipes! Thank you!
I visited my first winco in Montana and was super shocked when they wouldn’t take a credit card haha. Reminds me of aldi back in the day.
Now Aldi wants exact change where I live. 🙄
Our government is so clueless.
Thrifty is not $200+/week for groceries.
Where I am in Canada. Stores haven’t had baggers for years plastic bags are banned and you bring your own bags. Has not made anything cheaper 😹
Happy Friday, Christine! 🎉😊
I don't often shop there but Winco's produce prices are amazing.
I hope they expand down to Florida! Christine is the second youtuber I've heard rave about them.
That's awesome! ❤️
I love our Winco! ❤❤
Winco is awesome!!! I had one right down the street in AZ, the stores are so clean too!
Freaking LOVE Winco!
I love Winco! It’s my go-to store. I especially love their bulk section.
My favorite grocery store to find the deals is Stop&Shop. My favorite recipe from you is the country style boneless pork ribs! I make it all the time, so frugal and delicious!
Hi! I go to woodmans and Aldi. Definitely going to follow you ideas!
I live in rural NE Oregon and I wish we had a Winco! I am thankful for the very nice Walmart in my town. Thanks for your videos!
You won me over today. How could I NOT subscribe. You’re the best!❤❤❤❤
Winco is my favorite and always has been! I love their food, their prices, and how they treat their employees! It says something about a company when their regular employees stay for years and years.
But yeah, their meat isn’t their best point. Thank God for a friend who raises grass fed beef.
Bulk section in winco is fire!!
Great video Christine, as always!!!
Love your videos
I literally just spoke with my teen about this weeks meals. We are doing exactly what you said hot meat on salads and sides.. we have a freezer of meat to get eaten so only need veggies this week.. I also have plenty of pantry side dishes waiting to be used.. as a single mum saving to purchase my first house I love alllll of your tips :)
Been shopping at Aldi for 40+yrs. I’m from Illinois but now live in Kentucky.
Thank You for video! Unfortunately I live in NC no WINCO in my area, but still enjoyed this video. Thank You for all you do😊
I always enjoy your videos. I also LOVE grocery shopping. Haha. I’ve shopped at Aldi for years and love the produce deals I get there. I didn’t know how to take advantage of the deals at Kroger until your videos, though. I just got home from Kroger where I was able to stock up on ground beef for a great price. Plus, I earned 4x fuel points, which will make filling up my Tahoe cheaper. Win-win.
😱 $970 on the thrifty plan is $242 per person, per month. My grocery budget for just me is $151.66 per month! I mostly shop Walmart and Smith’s aka Fry’s. No WinCo, Costco, or any other discount stores in my small town. The closet are 100 miles away.
Hi Christine 👋🏻
8:41 😮 Wow! I'm feeling real good about my budget now. 😅
Wegmans is my favorite grocery store. Aldi beats them on price sometimes but the produce is better and the selection is too.
Wegmans is such a nice store with a large variety- their produce is amazing and priced well! I was shocked. If you aren’t careful you can overspend because they have all the fancy cheeses and a huge gluten free section and all the ready made foods etc… We moved from Oregon where WINCO is a staple- but I always think of them as bottom barrel not quality at all. Once we had to go gluten free I quit shopping at WINCO completely because their selection wasn’t good. Now we have ALDI near and I was excited but again not great for gluten free. Their cheese is a good price… and the produce, even organic. But we typically do better at the local farms.
Winco is my favorite! Winco started out as Waremart way back when and changed the name in the mid 90’s.
we don’t have Aldi but thank goodness for Winco
Yes! Winco!
One way we get an expensive protein is to watch for the full pork loin to go on sale and then we cut it into our own pork chops and freeze it in portions. This is been a huge savings over buying pre-cut pork chops. The little bits and pieces by put it in a separate bag and we use for stirfry.
Thats a great idea!
Winco, definitely my go to store.
I love Winco!! I'm m from Oregon so we have quite a few here.
I am totally hooked on air fryer carrot sticks, thanks Christine ❤ Great vid!
Try sweet potato sticks in air fryer with olive oil
@@robinholbrook8296 Thanks! I must try them next ❤
Do you have a recipe?
@@mymail1938 I just cut up carrot sticks, toss them with a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper and air fry for about 10-15 minutes or to your doneness preference
Thanks! I will try them out.
If we had a WinCo in Alabama, I would shop there! I love all your budgeting advice anyway. 😃
Any cheap stores in Alabama besides Aldi? I'm here, too.
I have always said that it's way cheaper to buy a bag of carrots and a few bananas than it is to buy a bag of chips. Lazy food prep is a problem. There IS a big issue in neighborhoods that do not have access to grocery stores...food deserts.
I chose to believe people are more tired than lazy.
You are kind, but when it comes to the health of the family, so many opt for the unhealthy really because they like the unhealthy rather than peeling a banana or opening a bag of carrots or chopping a head of lettuce in half. Tired or lazy, there are better alternatives that don't require more effort that opening a bag of chips. People who have ACCESS to grocery stores so often use the excuse that healthy options are more expensive, but they aren't. That was my point. @@jessicaclark611
I have never understood this when people use it as an excuse. FYI I do not nor do the people who have said this to me, live in a food desert. I priced a bag of Doritos at $5.50, for right about $5.25 I could by a bag of egg noodles, two cans of tuna and two bags of frozen veggies. Basically a full, balanced meal could be made for a family of 4-6 for what that bag of chips cost.
YES YES!!!!

#lazyfoodprepisaproblem. 😂😂
OMGosh! I just Googled and found out there is a WinCo in Tulsa about 40 miles from me. About 10 years ago we were living in Phoenix and I LOVED WinCo. Occasionally we need to go to Tulsa for things, so I definitely want to try and shop there for the upcoming holidays 🤩
Walmart neighborhood market for the fast in and out!
LOTR!!! 💪 thumps up for that clip 😁
We love ours in oklahoma!
I love shopping at Winco. It is my favorite place for fruit and veg. I also love their bins where I can buy wheat berries, very affordably, to grind into flour. My other favorite store is Grocery Outlet. You have to watch the expiration dates, but they are a glorious hodgepodge of random deals for the adventurous shopper. I get most of my frozen food from them.
I love our WinCo!
LOVE LOVE LOVE WinCo! When we had to relocate for my husband's job, I made sure the new city had a WinCo.
I’m so excited. We’re moving from Florida to Arizona soon and there is a WinCo nearby. I’m going to be able to eat healthy and save money compared to grocery shopping here.
Rogue and Speedy for president!!! More 2 person meal plans please 🙂 I love Winco but my local one doesn't have a meat counter or a bakery which then means shopping at multiple stores
I love WinCo. Bulk food section is heaven sent. They stock some Bob's Red Mill flour and mixes in the bulk section. Dried fruit and spices are amazing. Best prices on meat in our area. They are the biggest seller of Smithfield Ham in Texas. Stock special cuts of beef for our market. When was the last time you bought cube steak to make Salisbury Steak or to chicken fried.
Oklahoma girl here!! I LOVE Crest Foods!!! Nick’s Picks are the discounted foods for the duration… it could be a week or a month +. BUT the stores we rotate through here are: Crest, Sam’s, Costco, once in a while: walmart, sprouts, & winco (when we’re close to it, unfortunately they don’t have one in Edmond & unless we’re close by a winco for some other reason other than groceries, we don’t get to shop there).
I shop at Walmart mainly, then some at Aldi and Winn Dixie. All good pricing. I am grabbing the basics to try your bread recipes and that potato soup. Looks delish and on budget... sweet. 👍🏻😊
Her potato soup is the best! My family loves it and I make just the way she said to😊.
I love grocery shopping too. I shop for groceries at Food Lion, Aldi, Lidl and Bylers. Bylers is a discounted grocery store in my area. I sometimes go to Costco with my daughter.
Because I live in N. Idaho I choose a Kroger store. Not the least expensive over all. They do have good sales and some mark downs, digital coupons. Nicely payed out. Nice check out staff.
Texas here! Winco is my favorite store to do my major grocery shopping. But, I still shop the sales at a couple of other stores.
I love Publix and Aldi 🎉🎉
Since we are really not tight for money, I don't HAVE TO be frugal, but I really can't help myself. One thing that saves a ton of money is that I bake my own bread, but the main reason for that is that it tastes so much better! I have to limit myself or I would eat too much of it. I want to keep my weight to normal for health reasons, so I avoid sugar, snacks, cereals, rice and pasta, so that saves enough money and carbs that I can afford a glass of wine with dinner. Life is full of choices.
I love Winco! I always buy my spices in the bulk bins and the produce is cheap and fresh. You have to know your prices on meat. I bought boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.49 lb a couple weeks ago. It was $1.88 lb this week, which is still cheaper than most stores. Steak is usually too expensive to buy there. I'm so glad they are expanding to other states now.
Adams peanut butter! I love that--had it in summer at my Uncle's near CD'L Idaho. I keep hoping we'll someday get it in the Midwest.
My favorite grocery store is Safeway and Fred Myers
I don't have a WinCo but my son does. When we visit, my guilty pleasure is the bulk coconut macaroons. They're chocolate covered coconut almond nuggets and they are SO GOOD! Love your videos.
You should google a recipe and make them. It's fairly easy.
Aldi is my favorite. Funny story my son had his turn to bring snacks to confirmation class so we had cookies, chips and candy from Aldi and one of the other kids exclaimed, “hey! these are all knock offs!” But to us it’s just food.
Winco HANDS down was the best price for groceries before we moved. It’s now over 2 hours away so we rarely go as fuel prices negate any savings now but I miss it so much! They also had the best in store bakery of any grocery store chain I’ve tried! Their grab n’ go deli section is also one of the best I’ve seen. My husband stops in every morning to grab his breakfast and lunch items when he’s away for work and it saves a ton of money.
Oh my delicious… love that!😂
Right now my problem is that I have a 3 foot refrigerator. Hence I watch what I get and do my best to stay healthy. Hugs 🤗 ❤
Loved Winco when we were in California. Now I love H‑E‑B here in Texas. Great store
I love HEB ❤ i was just there yesterday and their meal deal right now with the smoked sausage...you have to buy 2 of them but if you get the regular its $6.99 each BUT you literally get 6 meals out of them if you separate the sausage and put it in the freezer.
I love WinnCo. When I visited my Daughter in Temecula CA. She lived there and hated it. I was like a kid in a candy store!!
Lol. My favorite grocery store is WinCo!! Hands down the cheapest grocery store in my area! I'll soend half as much there than I do at Walmart!
Oooh that potato soup looks delicious!!!🤗
Add in onion and celery
I love a good Kroger and/or Aldi!
We just dropped my daughter off in Idaho for college and I believe this will help her eat healthy on her very tight budget. She will just need to find someone to take her to a winco, as she has no car
Windows, Aldi's!, Frys & Costco.
We love winco!
Our go to store is ALDI , Walmart and the Dollar Tree.
yepppppp Winco and Aldi are my staples....
We have one in Midwest City in Oklahoma too! It’s awesome!!
We live in Edmond & that one’s my favorite one!!! Any reason that we are in the MWC area, you best believe we’re going there for a shopping trip!!!
WinCo is our favorite!
Favorite grocery store is definitely Aldi! It saves me tons of money.
