Years ago when I was single, a married friend with a family told me that learning to make soup from scratch was an invaluable skill. I was used to soup from a can, so this sounded odd to me. A few years later, I was married and started making a couple of soups from recipes, and gradually realized I could “riff” on them with whatever I had on hand. Turns out my friend was right - homemade soup stretches the budget, reduces waste, and just tastes good through our long Maine winters!

Lisa I’ve watched since you were pregnant with Micah and I absolutely love your lifestyle, your family, your home, all of what you share! You have truly taught me everything I know about homemaking. My mother growing up kept a very clean house, but she never taught me anything - she was entirely emotionally unavailable. Her and my dad divorced when I was 13, and she hasn’t been part of my life for almost 12 years. Lot of trauma there. Anyway, I’ve always wanted to be a mother myself but I was scared because the example she showed me was that it’s so hard and overwhelming and she was truly miserable. God really did a work in me and I believe I found your videos to be taught that motherhood can be joyful and completely life-giving. I had to work full time for the first 6 years of my motherhood journey, but I’ve been home for 2 1/2 years now and God has blessed my husband and is obedience in this life change so so much. It is my absolute joy to serve my family. We have five children now and I’m confident many more to come. ❤️❤️❤️ God bless you - your work is so valuable.

I really love your philosophy about seeing homemaking as an area of skill development, I feel like it’s easy to feel like you aren’t succeeding and especially if you work outside the home to feel like the home front just becomes chaotic and you’re always playing catch up. Remembering that if you are still developing skills and that it’s time that you lack not ability it reduces the pressure we put on ourselves.

Hi. A new subscriber here from Germany. I watched now several of your videos. And the one you have few weeks ago telling about a comment that everything showing in the video is calm and clean. And where are the children etc.
I never wanted to have children that much as others do. We tried and it didn’t worked out to have a child. So I got my first child at age 40. now I am 43 and got 2 kids. One is 2 and second 7 month.
My husband is at the military and not here during the weekdays. I struggle with the house cleaning, cooking and all the rest. I struggle with myself. I came here because I bake bread since few weeks.
I watched few of your videos. And thought …. Oh no, not another mom with many children showing a perfect Organized life, while I have just 2 kids and can’t get my work done.
I came back here few days ago. And in the evening I watched your videos. And now guess what ….. I see things different. I have to change my perspective.
I have to find my role as mother. I had to find my new me again. Because the old me didn’t know all about these things.
And now with a new born all alone in a small village, and my two year old, sometimes yelling and screaming, having tantrums etc, I find my place and my peace. Since I watch you I feel more calm. And relaxed. You are such an unbelievable woman. You give birth, before that you prepared things in the kitchen, and after you are here again for your family doing all the work. Oh my goodness. I love cooking but I hate baking. Really hating it. I never baked. But now my mind explores all these things and want to bake and cook for the family. Even cleaning is ok.
I excepted it a while ago that it’s a constant task.
But you gave so many good tips. I can do and my life easier.
Please do more of the videos you tell about your thoughts and feeling. I cried a lot. When my second child was born, and my first one is too young to understand that I have to look for the baby first or that the bedtime story has to come later etc. and he started to cry. And the newborn is starting also to cry.
It torn me apart. Now we all have our rhythm, it is ok now. But I struggled a lot. Breast feeding, crying baby and crying kid missing his mom.
How do you keep your mental health. I know that preparation and being smart with house cleaning is key, but what about you. Your thought, your wishes, your hobby’s, do you want to escape sometimes? Do you have just time for you? You are the only one I can watch to this whole „mom“ thing. I want to keep myself away from comparison. I do not with you. You are on another level. The entire family is helping. I am alone. My parents are not near living.
Ok. Long comment. I am tired now. It’s 10.30pm here. Normally I sleep around 9.30. but I wanted to say thank you. For inspiration, for giving me the courage to feel I can do this.
Btw. I am a bit sad I am that old now experiencing the love to have children. To have a family. I would want also more more children. Living on a farm. It’s a dream. But I am also happy with my two boys.
Thank you for keeping the content so valuable. It’s so relaxing to watch you. And learn things. All the tips and tricks.
Over and out. 😂 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 ❤

Really appreciate you taking us along in your day. I dearly wished my Mum had loved homemaking as much as you, alas she did not, and I kind of left home only about a quarter as prepared as I really needed to be in order to thrive as a wife and mum.
Just seeing how you pulled together a pumpkin ice cream from leftovers helps my brain learn and rewire.
    Thank you 🙏🏼 🤲🏻❤

Sooo sweet honey…reminds me of home. What attentive, compassionate, efficient Mommy and Daddy you two are. I’m one of 9 children, born in 11 years, from the same parents, no twins. Mom and Dad were married over seventy years, and had over 150 heirs before their passing. They said the babies came in crops, ha, ha, ha, ha. From the time we could walk, we learned to pick up after ourselves and be part of the daily necessities it took to keep our home a clean and healthy and happy home. We each had our chores, from the youngest to the oldest..and learned how to be kind and helpful and attentive to one another.. mother taught us daily Ephesians 4:32.. “and be ye kind one to another tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ sake has forgiven you.” This is a special, rare way for children to grow up, in this age. It warms my heart to see you and other young Fathers and Mothers with such a big heart, taking on this kind of love and responsibility, in this day and time. Your family is beautiful. May our Father in Heaven bless and keep you all, and encourage you and give you wisdom, and strength, as you endeavor to be everything he created you to be. Just beautiful.

You're still one of my heroes. : ) My walls are full, full of beautiful art. Paintings, embroidery, photography, vintage quilts, and painted plates...basically a variety of lovely artwork. I'm going for European artwork approach with stacked art at this point. Idea to include artwork done by your family too...drawings, paintings, photography. I've got some of my art, art by great aunt, and art by my son. It's interesting how children are so happy over the years to see their well-done art hung next to more "serious" art.
Also, had tradition of buying a piece of "real art" when on a trip...beautiful and real art, but doesn't have to be expensive. Easy to slip a print or small painting into luggage, and becomes memory from trip...like for example your big trip to NYC with daughters. All pick out together, and hang on wall somewhere as a great memory.

Watching your daily life video is capable for bringing down a person's blood pressure to a level of comfort and joy. Each of your children are just precious. With you and your husband central to making it all work with love is a dream. This lifestyle makes the rest of the world with the frantic races to 'keep up with the next guy" or outdo one another with *what* they have and how hip they are seems silly and sad, as opposed to how to live compatible with nature and the wonders it offers (thank you, Father) and happily. I hope that doesn't sound harsh to those without this ability. I'm an older woman now and remember when this was normal life, not just a 'throwback'. It is heavenly and I thank you for sharing. I do hope it is inspiring to young people to bring back this beautiful sanity.

I’m gonna try the quick and easy version of your pumpkin spice latte. Loved seeing how you homemake and homeschool side by side, and your daughter playing with your second youngest in the background while you made your bed. Thanks so much for continuing to say homemaking requires being at home. Channels like yours are inspiring to me, but sometimes I’m hard on myself that I can’t get to everything I want because my son is autistic and so we have a lot of appointments for his support needs every week, and then I prioritize giving him time to play outside, which requires me to be out with him. So I have to give myself grace where I fall short with things like baking and house projects.
