We spend about 50$ a week for a family of 3. We’ve stocked up through the years, we’re also on a weight loss journey. I’ve lost 300lbs, and my bill has gone down so much since I don’t eat processed foods and only Whole Foods.

How many hours would it take to get home? Even though it's winter, there's still frozen foods. Also AZ does have a 10% tax on groceries but as you see, the base prices are lower.

I agree that location is a big factor in the deals I find. I don’t even have to leave town to find big discrepancies. We have two Krogers in town. Not food, but last week huge bottles of Dawn were on closeout. One store had them marked from $12 to $6 while they were $10 at the other. I saw where some places across the country were selling them for $2. I was happy with $6 nonetheless.

Grocery shopping IS fun. Years ago, when my kids were tiny, grocery shopping by myself was my big me time opportunity. 😆 It was also the only place I was willing to indulge a little bit. We were one income with 3 kids in 5 years. Money was tight for years and I couldn't rationalize buying clothes or getting my nails done, but shopping the grocery sales to make fun and yummy meals? A rush, I tell you! That experience powerfully imprinted on me and I still enjoy grocery shopping and finding deals.

I am so tired of people telling me it is impossible to feed my family of 8 for only $200 (Australian) a fortnight. ie..oh they must be left so hungry, I doubt that, prove it. It's very possible. I don't buy pre-packaged items and spend very wisely by watching budget tutorials like yourself. Some people just don't have discipline ❤️

  • @alicat433
    @alicat433 Год назад +16

Hey Christine, the reason the eggos were priced differently is the new markdown system for Kroger stores. They used to mark each item down to a certain percentage off. Now the clearance price is determined by how many more they have in stock when they mark an item down. So the cheaper box was marked down first and the more expensive box was marked down later when they had fewer in stock. Unfortunately, that means markdowns are not at least 50% anymore 😕 not bad when it's an item that will last awhile, but our store had bread with a same day expiration date that was still almost $4 on clearance. Same with dairy items, which also don't have a long lifespan. Hoping they revise their policy soon.

Grocery store TIP I learned a long time ago... if there is a scale in the produce section, WEIGH your produce that comes in bags. For example, I go through the bagged potatoes, picking out the ones I like (larger potatoes, less peeling waste). I "hand weigh" the ones I like the best. Take them to the scale and actually weigh them; you will be surprised, some weigh closer to 4.5 pounds, whereas some can weigh closer to 6 pounds!
I do the same "hand weighing" with iceberg lettuce, especially with the price of it now. The denser it is, the more it weighs, and the more lettuce you get.
    Happy shopping, everyone!

If you don’t buy the whole cooked chickens (4.99) at Costco you are missing out! (They are larger then the raw ones!)
We buy 4 or 5 , and take all the meat off each one, and separate the meat into 1.5 lbs. and freeze. We usually get 10 to 12 meals off of 4 chickens. Also we use the bones, and make chicken stalk for soups, gravies etc!

Thank you for these videos. Back when I was going through hard times welfare used to give us, a family of 4 79 dollars a month to live on. My first thought was ramen when I got that loaded the first time! Lol
I love this channel because it shows the deals out there for pre packaged things, but also reminds us and shows us that you can live on even less if you make it yourself. Especially if you buy in bulk from bins or from places like Costco. It’s stuck with me. I still will go to the stores deli and have the butcher make me up the $20 roll of grass fed angus hamburger.. cut it, bag each, roll them flat to freezer stack, seal and freeze for meals.
Anyone reading this on aide just know we all go through these times where a friend or family steps in to help and if not the gov is there to help give you a hand up.. to get where you need. This cashier at Walmart informed me that with food stamps(snap) you can buy food seeds in the garden dept. I highly recommend growing your own herbs and greens. You can grow them in the window even with window farming. Nothing is impossible 🦄💜

We do get frozen veggies & riced cauliflower. Our only snack is popped at home popcorn. 95 % at Trader Joe's twice a month. H.E.B. for fresh fruits & veggies in between. I cook & bake. I make a weekly soup that I leave 2 portions for me out and freeze rest for the following week for my lunches. Since we moved from CA to Texas, I've stock piled my pantry every time shopping. I went shopping. Every other month, Costco for ghee, coconut oil, pistachios, and a case of almond milk.

(2 quarts and 2 pints). Whew! I also rendered the fat and got a little bit lard which I used to fry the schnitzels in! But yeah, hardly EVER see meat that price. I think location does play an important role in finding deals. However, do not count out creativity, and discipline which are equally important.
Checking out clearance displays each time you shop, knowing where to look in each store, being willing to go in just for loss leaders, and leave, planning shopping trips to save time and gas plays a huge role in saving money.
Also, setting aside a few dollars for those crazy clearance deals you find will save alot of money in the future.
Creativity in knowing how to cook a variety of foods, knowledge of what to do with leftovers so that they do not get boring. Also, flexibility. If Steak is high in price but Tuna is on at a good price then Tuna it is.

The texture gets back to what it was before, but you have to eat them then or they will be hard again after a few hours.

I usually buy only canned meats, which makes them 20% off. Then, they occasionally have half off clearance items. That's usually when I get paper goods, like paper plates, bowls & napkins. The paper goods are usually linked to a holiday that has already passed. (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, etc.) It also usually includes candy items for holidays like Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. At my regular grocery shopping forays, I always look for clearance meats & other clearance foods. I love seeing clearance dairy foods like yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, milk, etc.

I’ve had problems with my back for close to 50 years, so my husband does most of the cooking. I started looking for something quick & easy with few ingredients. As I was putting it together today, I saw we didn’t have all of the mozzarella it called for. I knew we had sliced provolone. I took a page out of your book & used slices of provolone on top of each piece of chicken & sprinkled the mozzarella over the top. It was delicious! Thank you for helping me to look outside of the box!

Your house; your rules! I promise the recipe police will not come to your door. FYI: you can make boxed cake mixes with fewer eggs than the recipe calls for. You can also add 1/2 - 1 cup of sour cream or yogurt to the mix for extra moistness, and to use up the dairy products that are getting some age on them.

I was very surprises to see you wearing flipflop sandales in February. It is almost April and it snowed again in my area. The show Banks have not thawed. The kids are still sliding and Rolling down the mount. Geography, what a difference a few miles can do.

Adding my ten cents, if you are looking for good deals you need to go early in my area. Which works, I think some of finding these prices is learning the ebb and flow of the stores in your area too. Great finds as usual. Just grabbed strawberries at 99 cents a pound - Crazy right. Strawberries for everyone for the next few days! (They will love it).

These are great deals. I am one of those people who actually loved to go grocery shopping. It didn’t matter if I was on a budget (which I usually was) or not.
My life circumstances have changed so now I am dependent on shopping online and often getting groceries delivered to me. Because of this, I don’t get to enjoy these types of deals. Especially tough now but I am on a “food stamp” level budget. Not complaining just explaining.

Run your fingers under the faucet and then lightly wet the bagels. Then toast OR better yet, wrap in foil and heat in the oven, then lightly toast if you want. You have just rehydrated your bagels. So yes! Buy the discount hard bagels!

My kids and I love watching to see what deals you find! Here in the upper Midwest we have a food pantry where the main purpose is preventing food waste and anyone who eats is welcome to come. Each share is $25 and is easily $100+ in food. We love it!

I love your grocery haul videos! I started doing monthly grocery shopping videos as well. It’s been such a good way for me to stay accountable to my grocery budget. I have a decent stockpile as well so my monthly budget has been right around $350 for my family of three. Thanks for the inspiration Christine ❤

    Hi,
Completely understand how to be frugal, especially with the expensive groceries etc.
I think though, you buy a lot of highly processed and unhealthy foods.
Processed food are full of preservatives, sugar and salt, definitely not good for gut health 😬
I also noticed that a lot Americans eat sausage and pre ground beef/ turkey from the supermarket. These meats are high in fats, preservatives and fillers.
They are also the cheaper cuts of meat..also waffles are a lot cheaper if you make them yourself...
Instead of buying carrots, buy a bunch of carrots that can be used in both savoury and sweet dishes and cut one or two up into bite size pieces or into sticks?
You can also buy fresh veggies, including mushrooms and freeze them yourself..if you are serious about gut health and health in general, think about what you are purchasing ☺️🙏
There are much more frugal ways to shop.
    For gut health

I used to love grocery shopping, but now it's just depressing with the prices these days. I do go to food banks and free farmer's markets, so that really helps stretch my budget. Love your channel and recipes.
