I love Khanyisa. Her determination, her spirit, her drive, her silliness, her love of others in spite of her past. Her story is unique just like her. Our little pink elephant. Spread the word with your storytelling strength and maybe, just maybe we can save these lovely giants for our future children!

Thank you so very much for this film. I am a subscriber to Herd Elephant Orphanage and watched Khanyisa since she was a baby and brought to Adine and the carers at HERD. I have cried tears of sadness for this little baby when it seemed she might not survive and I have cried tears of joy at her every step to healing. Her acceptance into the Jabulani herd was the culmination of their extremely hard work to save her and her second chance to grow up, be loved and have her own ellie herd again. We love Khanyisa and all the Jabulani herd and the team at HERD for never giving up. Thank you for sharing their amazing story.

@@diaryofanelephantorphan an update, in case you were not aware. HERD just lost their little baby bull Phabeni at 11 months due to acute enteritus. A loss that has half a million of us in devastating grief.

Khanyisa's story of excruciating pain, loss of her Mum,and her amazing fight, with the help and love of Adine and all the carers and medical professionals, to regain her strength and health and belief in humans again after what she witnessed (killing of her mum and being left for dead) deserves to be brought to as large an audience as possible. The public need to know, that however barbaric Khanyisa's story is, these atrocities are happening now, today, to so many beautiful creatures and will continue until strong legislation and punishment's makes the harming of these creatures financially unrewarding and morally corrupt, to the perpetrators.!! Thanks to all involved on this 'Diary'film for highlighting the problem and bringing it to a worldwide audience, who,by strength of numbers, can help bring pressure on lawmaker's/, people in power to stop paying lip service to 'how vile a trade it is ' and start really hurting the people who commit such terrible acts.!! Love you Khanyisa and all at Herd.!! 🌹🎉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿X

I feel your frustration. Poaching is cruel and snaring imho the cruelest. I’ve covered many stories like that. However, the problem is not clear cut. We have huge poverty and where there is poverty, there are different laws. Illegal bush meat trade through poaching is one of them. Yes, like you rightly say, you do get pure evil too - poachers poaching for the sake of enriching themselves. (Think rhino horn, ivory etc.)
Khanyisa’s mom wasn’t killed (we don’t know who her mom is but we know the area she comes from). It’s more likely that liitle Temisa’s mom was killed in front of her. 🌸
So all round it’s a dire situation borne from social decay, joblessness, poverty, divide etc, but there are many people doing good work to try turn that around. Respect to all those people. And to people like you that are willing to support and spread the message. Together we all can have a greater impact than a lone voice in the dark right?! 🙂🙌🙌🐘🌸🐘

These films are a true education on so many levels. What an innovative way to teach how society truly works from the lives of elephants to our rather fractured society today. Children can learn so much from them, importance of family, respect, caring for each other, learning independence and passing those values on. Wishing you great success.

Thank you Hermien for telling Khaynisa's 🐘story. Her's is a wonderful story to tell. One of resilience and the love Khaynisa 🐘 has for her human HERD and her elephant 🐘 HERD. She is a little fighter. She definitely loves Adine her human mama and the feeling is mutual. Thank you again for telling her story.❤️🐘❤️

Your amazing and so lucky to be able to be part of this journey seeing all the little precious moments that would have been missed if you weren't there to see them along the way that is worth more than money cause you can't buy those and once they're gone they are lost forever so to capture them on film is a once in a lifetime chance that's something special ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hi Liz, 👋 Yes that’s true. That’s what drives one to continue filming year on year, cause you know it’s a story worth telling. In spite of the huge cost involved in doing this. 🤩 How wonderful that we can now capture memories like this on film and have it forever. The value that ads to research is amazing. 🌸
