I asked one fast food place about that and they said, we worked within the laws. One time I fractured my ankle playing soccer, had a surgery and had to be on crutches for 10 weeks, got a temporary disabled parking pass. Every time I went to the store or anywhere else, most of the time the disabled parking spots were used, but never saw anyone on wheelchair, crutches or even limping, or having trouble walking.
My mother had a disabled placard. So when I drove her to her appointments, in my car, then and only then was I legally allowed to use her placard. But as shown in the video, these able bodied people are not transporting the disabled holder of the placard. So what is supposed to happen is the cops are supposed to seize the placard for illegal use. I’ve actually had it happen to me. I had driven mom to her doctors appointment, with the placard hanging. But after I dropped her off, I forgot to take down the placard. I stopped at a store and parked (in a regular parking spot!). When I came out there was a cop waiting, wanting to make a huge issue out of me having a placard hanging even tho I was not parked in a disabled spot. He seized the placard and gave me some ticket. I don’t remember the actual offence but the judge dismissed it instantly, I didn’t even get a chance to fully explain. Mom got a new placard.

I'm watching in 2020. I would like to bet those same people are still doing it. They had no shame at all. My mother was disabled and watching her struggle to walk in absolute pain was so distressing. While people like that laugh and take a space allocated for someone like her makes my blood boil. That assistant DA wouldn't excuse anyone but himself from breaking the law. He deserved the sack. I have a handicapped son and when we transport him in our accessible van, we often see people without placards parking in handicapped spaces, also we have an official handicapped parking space in front of our home people always park there without a placard, I’ve gotten to the point now I call in and have them tagged and towed. Then these people can deal with the consequences. I have had people verbally assault me for calling them in, to bad, so sad! Don’t break the law!

It means the world to a disabled person. It means not being able to use the disabled handicapped parking area. It means I can't go shopping cuz I'm disabled I can't walk two hundred feet.
It is possible that the woman never noticed that some of her staff was violating the law. Not all of us are good at spotting a poor paint job on a car or a house fore example. Some people notice the things around them a lot more then others. I do not know if she did or did not truly know of the law breaking going on. I would want to see evidence (video) of her seeing or not seeing the staff breaking the law to decide one way or the other.
Some times we get lazy and also have two perfectly working legs to walk on.. So we have to park right next to the front door of the building because other wise it would be too far for my perfectly working legs to walk.😂

I live in NJ. If you do not have a placards or handicap plate, your car will be towed by police and you would be charged $250 + towing fee, storage fees and other fees and fines. Even if you someone else's placards and that person is not there with you, your car WILL BE TOWNED.
Unreal...I am disabled and when I saw a disabled parking spot at a store I used to shop at constantly being abused..(people parking in it with NO disabled placard or plates). I talked to the store owner...absolutely nothing was done. So the next time I went to that store to shop...sure enough someone was parked in the spot no placard or plates. I was fed up so I took photos of the car and its plates. I was going to confront the person and decided not to since I was so infuriated and figured it might go badly. Instead I called my towns p.d. department gave the officer the plate number and he actually told me that unless the police witness the car being in the spot at the time of the incident they won't take any action! The next time I went to this store the OWNER was parked in the disabled spot unloading supplies for his store! That was it for me..I quit shopping there even though it was so much easier for me. I was just disgusted.

Employees at Walmart in 5851 NW 177th St Hialeah Fl most time use the handicapped spaces. If Walmart have handicapped employees they must provide their own spaces and let those to the customers. Also to verify employees that work there and look like they don't have any physical condition to have those placard.
In many states the law says that an officer must actually witness a misdemeanor in order to make an arrest. But in your case they could have had you sign the ticket as the arresting party -- citizen's arrest.
I saw a 20-something firefighter park in a handicap space, get his toddler out of the car and run into a hair salon. The car had one of those specialty plates for firefighters. I took photos and sent them to the police chief. The Chief contacted me later, letting me know he had spoken with the firefighter and also addressed the entire department regarding the need to abide by all laws and regulations. The public is watching. On a side note, when I started with my current employer, in order to park in the handicap area in the employee's lot, I had to give them a copy of my registration and driver's license.

When I lived in California, Jail and court employees were parking at meters and double parking by just putting something with the jailhouse logo on it in the dashboard. One cop put his ticket book on the dash, and he hadn't written at ticket for 10 years since he moved to a desk job. The police are as corrupt or more so than the citizens. Lawyers and their staffs in government are even worse and politicians are worse yet. When I lived in PR, a legislator caused a real scandal by having his driver drive on the shoulder and refuse to stop for a cop. The same legislator punched an elderly driver who wouldn't move his car (he was blocked in traffic and the legislator was behind him, but he was behind about 20 other cars). For that, the politician got his fingers slapped but that was all.
I am 100% disabled through the VA due to injuries I sustained on active duty. My state has issued me a Disabled Veteran license plate that allows me to use the Disabled parking spaces. I generally only use the spaces when my wife is in the vehicle with me. She is in a wheel chair and is blind due to a terminal illness.
I have a disabled plate and rarely use it. When my leg is killing me and I have to go out I use it but when I can walk, I do. It's better for my health and I always think what if someone is having one of those horrible pain days and I am taking the spot just cause I have it...
$500 fine is not enough for these people. it should start at $1500.00. and if they are caught having the card not issued to them they should get to do handicapped community service for 1 year per violation. This should be for all states.

im a disabled veteran, I have had 13 knee surgeries and 2 reconstruction knee surgeries, my truck has disabled plates and now that my 19 year old son is driving my truck to school and work I make sure he knows its not his right to park in the handicap without me being there, im so proud of his answer when I asked if he ever used it just for a second he said im not handy caped so no. people just have this selfish all for them attitude and it needs a better fine, like park in the handy capped and you pay by having to "volunteer" 1 week driving disabled people around town, 2nd offence I month driving disabled people 3rd offense you loose your lic 1 year because your stupid and we dont need stupid drivers

Where I live, when someone gets a speeding ticket, you do not have to appear in court. I'm not sure Michael Lucas is completely correct, but I could be wrong. In the late 90's, I got a ticket for going 5 MPH over the posted limit and my fine was $75 bucks; no court appearance required.
It will never stop sadly. When my husband was going to the Veterans Hospital for treatment (he since has passed away) I always noticed people that were not disabled including employees parking and leaving in the handicap area (spots). Many disabled veterans had to drive around and around the handicap parking area to get a place to park causing them to be late for their appointments. I am disabled also and find the same problem. Those that are not disabled and park in handicap spots have no idea how difficult it is for the disabled to try to find parking along with needing the extra area in the parking spot to be able to open their door to get in and out of the vehicle. It is heartbreaking to see this happen. Those that are not disabled that park in these handicap spots have no idea the difficulty it is for the disabled with out these parking spots because they don't care. They should be happy that they are not disabled. 😢

Those of us who have valid placards have been pointing this violation out for years. I caught my own sister using my mothers temporary handicapped permit so she didn't have to walk so far from the grocery store. It doesn't surprise me that people of all walks of life love to have what they must consider "personal reserved parking".

DA, Judges, cops, politicians.... caught violating the law should automatically get the max sentence.
In Minnesota it was the Judges that reduced the fine amount to a few hundred dollars because their wives keep getting $600 tickets.

The ONLY reason *They not only got fines but were publicly humiliated on the news* is because it was REPORTED by the News Media. Otherwise, nothing would have been done about this.
I think all government workers should be fined ten times the normal amount because they know better!
One time I fractured my ankle playing soccer, had a surgery and had to be on crutches for 10 weeks, got a temporary disabled parking pass. Every time I went to the store or anywhere else, most of the time the disabled parking spots were used, but never saw anyone on wheelchair, crutches or even limping, or having trouble walking.
My mother had a disabled placard. So when I drove her to her appointments, in my car, then and only then was I legally allowed to use her placard.
But as shown in the video, these able bodied people are not transporting the disabled holder of the placard.
So what is supposed to happen is the cops are supposed to seize the placard for illegal use.
I’ve actually had it happen to me. I had driven mom to her doctors appointment, with the placard hanging. But after I dropped her off, I forgot to take down the placard. I stopped at a store and parked (in a regular parking spot!). When I came out there was a cop waiting, wanting to make a huge issue out of me having a placard hanging even tho I was not parked in a disabled spot.
He seized the placard and gave me some ticket. I don’t remember the actual offence but the judge dismissed it instantly, I didn’t even get a chance to fully explain. Mom got a new placard.
In my state, having the placard hanging while you're driving is illegal. No clue about other states, though.

While people like that laugh and take a space allocated for someone like her makes my blood boil. That assistant DA wouldn't excuse anyone but himself from breaking the law. He deserved the sack. I have a handicapped son and when we transport him in our accessible van, we often see people without placards parking in handicapped spaces, also we have an official handicapped parking space in front of our home people always park there without a placard, I’ve gotten to the point now I call in and have them tagged and towed. Then these people can deal with the consequences. I have had people verbally assault me for calling them in, to bad, so sad! Don’t break the law!

It is possible that the woman never noticed that some of her staff was violating the law. Not all of us are good at spotting a poor paint job on a car or a house fore example. Some people notice the things around them a lot more then others. I do not know if she did or did not truly know of the law breaking going on. I would want to see evidence (video) of her seeing or not seeing the staff breaking the law to decide one way or the other.

I live in NJ. If you do not have a placards or handicap plate, your car will be towed by police and you would be charged $250 + towing fee, storage fees and other fees and fines. Even if you someone else's placards and that person is not there with you, your car WILL BE TOWNED.

Unreal...I am disabled and when I saw a disabled parking spot at a store I used to shop at constantly being abused..(people parking in it with NO disabled placard or plates). I talked to the store owner...absolutely nothing was done. So the next time I went to that store to shop...sure enough someone was parked in the spot no placard or plates. I was fed up so I took photos of the car and its plates. I was going to confront the person and decided not to since I was so infuriated and figured it might go badly. Instead I called my towns p.d. department gave the officer the plate number and he actually told me that unless the police witness the car being in the spot at the time of the incident they won't take any action! The next time I went to this store the OWNER was parked in the disabled spot unloading supplies for his store! That was it for me..I quit shopping there even though it was so much easier for me. I was just disgusted.
yeah, the Walmart here in Trion GA is the same way, the police rarely patrol the lot, and Walmart wont enforce the rules because it could hurt their pocket, I see people park in the blue LINES in the Van accessible spot because their car can fit.. and their response is, I have a handicap plate/placard..

Employees at Walmart in 5851 NW 177th St Hialeah Fl most time use the handicapped spaces. If Walmart have handicapped employees they must provide their own spaces and let those to the customers. Also to verify employees that work there and look like they don't have any physical condition to have those placard.
In many states the law says that an officer must actually witness a misdemeanor in order to make an arrest. But in your case they could have had you sign the ticket as the arresting party -- citizen's arrest.

I saw a 20-something firefighter park in a handicap space, get his toddler out of the car and run into a hair salon. The car had one of those specialty plates for firefighters. I took photos and sent them to the police chief. The Chief contacted me later, letting me know he had spoken with the firefighter and also addressed the entire department regarding the need to abide by all laws and regulations. The public is watching. On a side note, when I started with my current employer, in order to park in the handicap area in the employee's lot, I had to give them a copy of my registration and driver's license.

It amazes me that any kind of government employees get by with this with little or no repercussions and when caught the public is told "we will investigate" and there you go never hearing about it again
When I lived in California, Jail and court employees were parking at meters and double parking by just putting something with the jailhouse logo on it in the dashboard. One cop put his ticket book on the dash, and he hadn't written at ticket for 10 years since he moved to a desk job. The police are as corrupt or more so than the citizens. Lawyers and their staffs in government are even worse and politicians are worse yet. When I lived in PR, a legislator caused a real scandal by having his driver drive on the shoulder and refuse to stop for a cop. The same legislator punched an elderly driver who wouldn't move his car (he was blocked in traffic and the legislator was behind him, but he was behind about 20 other cars). For that, the politician got his fingers slapped but that was all.

I am 100% disabled through the VA due to injuries I sustained on active duty. My state has issued me a Disabled Veteran license plate that allows me to use the Disabled parking spaces. I generally only use the spaces when my wife is in the vehicle with me. She is in a wheel chair and is blind due to a terminal illness.
The DA became lazy the day she started her job.

I have a disabled plate and rarely use it. When my leg is killing me and I have to go out I use it but when I can walk, I do. It's better for my health and I always think what if someone is having one of those horrible pain days and I am taking the spot just cause I have it...
$500 fine is not enough for these people. it should start at $1500.00. and if they are caught having the card not issued to them they should get to do handicapped community service for 1 year per violation. This should be for all states.

im a disabled veteran, I have had 13 knee surgeries and 2 reconstruction knee surgeries, my truck has disabled plates and now that my 19 year old son is driving my truck to school and work I make sure he knows its not his right to park in the handicap without me being there, im so proud of his answer when I asked if he ever used it just for a second he said im not handy caped so no. people just have this selfish all for them attitude and it needs a better fine, like park in the handy capped and you pay by having to "volunteer" 1 week driving disabled people around town, 2nd offence I month driving disabled people 3rd offense you loose your lic 1 year because your stupid and we dont need stupid drivers

Where I live, when someone gets a speeding ticket, you do not have to appear in court. I'm not sure Michael Lucas is completely correct, but I could be wrong. In the late 90's, I got a ticket for going 5 MPH over the posted limit and my fine was $75 bucks; no court appearance required.

It will never stop sadly. When my husband was going to the Veterans Hospital for treatment (he since has passed away) I always noticed people that were not disabled including employees parking and leaving in the handicap area (spots). Many disabled veterans had to drive around and around the handicap parking area to get a place to park causing them to be late for their appointments. I am disabled also and find the same problem. Those that are not disabled and park in handicap spots have no idea how difficult it is for the disabled to try to find parking along with needing the extra area in the parking spot to be able to open their door to get in and out of the vehicle. It is heartbreaking to see this happen. Those that are not disabled that park in these handicap spots have no idea the difficulty it is for the disabled with out these parking spots because they don't care. They should be happy that they are not disabled. 😢

Those of us who have valid placards have been pointing this violation out for years. I caught my own sister using my mothers temporary handicapped permit so she didn't have to walk so far from the grocery store. It doesn't surprise me that people of all walks of life love to have what they must consider "personal reserved parking".
