If there is a video that can cover the essence of writing electronic music.. For me this is the ONE. Yes Yes Kenny Larkin perfectly portraying the importance of imperfection ;:) #technosoul
I feel like I really learned something from this video...im actually way too methodical and analytical sometimes and just forget to twiddle and play around and let 'the other half' take over for a while. ha. reborn!
him flipping the bird at the maschine then chuckling about it was such a pure and relatable moment. i love my maschine, but i often have moments like these. i'd love to grab a drink with kenny, what a personality.
i saw him as part of Dallas's very first rave, billed as "RAVE MASSIVE" in 1991, outdoors, and it included the plus 8 records crew, richie hawtin, kenny larkin, john aquaviva, cybersonik, and others i cant recall.......? its cool how he uses ableton live along with a mixing board, thats what i want my ultimate set-up to be like
yup, he has an honest point when it comes to not using all your gear to its full potential. if its the right gear it could/should take a lifetime anyway :)
prob one of the best OG house producers tbh. and still puts out shit that sounds fresh... unlike aLOT of older dudes who got lost in the newer production standards
Loving the attitude of Kenny Larkin. It's very refreshing to hear someone talk why he bought a "Moog One" and a "Deckard's Dream". Many thumbs up at 8:06 ... hahahaha!!! :-)
A real talent and obviously a nice lad, too. I've always loved his music, Azimuth is an amazing album. I love his honesty about how he creates and where he gets his inspiration from, too. No pretence, just sharing the music. He's the polar opposite to some artists you could mention in Detroit.
Yup, the glory these days is to be able to afford the vintage synth sounds through new versions of the machines. Samplers and granular synthesis is something that back in the day was inly for the rich. Awesome studio!!
Not a musician, I was a "Pack Rat" sold everything that had a preset...went modular...never looked back. I like the fact that I have to patch and turn knobs to get the creative juices going. Great Video!.
He keeps saying he isn't a musician, but as someone who had piano lessons from 4-18 I can confidently say you don't have to be trained to be a 'real musician.'
Kenny is so cute and humble ! It is so good to see such a free minded beautiful people ! Tech talk team thank you for such a good interview. Studio is top ! API mixer and barefoots are amazing.
Thanks for lighting up my day :) Also he has almost the same approach to music like me. Don't think too much, just do it and listen to what's happening. That's all there is to it really.
I like this video. I like his style of music and his honesty about how he creates it. Watching videos like these is what inspired me to become a composer/music producer. These videos are the best at inspiring anyone to be creative. Thank you Mr. Larkin
Wow, the Moog One, what a silky sound... 🤤 great musician. This guy broke the music rules years ago. I like to see people like him always young. Very inspiring 🤟🏼
Wow Kenny Larkin I own your early records from early 90s....great to see you!!! Yeah alot of us older peeps are getting out the box, seems more magic..oh yeah I do gear move around every month lol...brilliant thanks Kenny! Keepin it real😀🙌🎶🎶🎶
I totally agree with ALL of this. I have zero formula when I create music... I love the old equipment, but, I can neither afford a lot of it and I don’t want to have to make repairs on it. Not yet at least.

I live by this
@@NextSound170 ye man me too and not by choice.. I just do and live things that way
@@eg1612 Yes man, the music I work with for my own platform has to be soulful.
I feel like I really learned something from this video...im actually way too methodical and analytical sometimes and just forget to twiddle and play around and let 'the other half' take over for a while.
ha. reborn!
word!
Kenny Larkin seems like a nice dude. Good energy. Awesome tunes. ❤️
808 minutes.. love it. Who’s the genius?
good eye
You had the chance to "out genius" the video guy and post this on Thursday lol
Good point : D
YUPPP, I saw it too 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
If you're just finding out, your education is just beginning.
Didn't expect to laugh when I clicked on that, but the guy makes me wanna hang out in his studio just as much as the gear
He’s Dark Comedy for some reason.
What a top dude. Really enjoyed his approach and straightforwardness
He speaks with such tonal range
Honesty makes people seem so much more interesting. Thank you, Kenny, for being like that!
What a champ - no pretensions, great gear and honest.
If you only knew
no pretensions? did we watch the same video?
What an awesome human. I'd even say that if I hadn't heard his music
This dude is a legend but still super chill and down to earth.
him flipping the bird at the maschine then chuckling about it was such a pure and relatable moment. i love my maschine, but i often have moments like these. i'd love to grab a drink with kenny, what a personality.
Massive respect for this legend. Been a big fan since 94.
Sheesh! Kenny has style! studio, pants, the whole package!
Raw good soul music. Take note - this is what Techno is about. Soul music

Love listening to him talking. Very down to earth and humble. He’s funny too, can see how he ended up doing stand up comedy as well as music.
$8000 Moog One and a $300 Behringer Model D, hell yeah
thats how its done :)
and a 72.000€ mixing console
Came here to find this comment.
70'000 dollars speakers
I mean the explanation about not wanting to deal with repairs is totally valid
Thanks Telekom and Mr Larkin! Be simple, be humble, be in truth with yourself and others.
Legendary yet somehow underrated. Mr Kenny Larkin.
Love Kenny. Butterflies is one of my all-time favorite tracks.
Love this, Kenny Larkin is so great, what an awesome studio!
I love his sound so much. You're a hero.
I hope i have half this guys charisma and excitement for the craft when i reach that point in life.
The intimacy of the room I love it ❤️❤️❤️
We love you Kenny!
Liked him since Artificial Intelligence 2. Also noticed we have the same rug, so like him even more now.
Maritime (Artificial Intelligence, 1994) started it all for me, thank-you Kenny.
Lol, I feel so called out with the Deckard‘s Dream comment.
100% true
"When you start spending money on studio equipment.............you can't stop!". Never a truer word spoken.
Don't beat yourself up? we're all ho's for the gear!🎹🎧💫😵👍
yup, he has an honest point when it comes to not using all your gear to its full potential. if its the right gear it could/should take a lifetime anyway :)
prob one of the best OG house producers tbh. and still puts out shit that sounds fresh... unlike aLOT of older dudes who got lost in the newer production standards
I agree. Newer production standards suck the life out of music - they have that cheesy big club hi-fi quality i can't stand.
@@ownedbymykitty270 over production for the sake of doing so. People gotta get out of their own way
Like him and his humbleness. 👍👍👍👍
Although it was brief, it was a huge honor to meet him in person at DEMF on May 27 of 2001. He was very friendly and easy to talk with.
Very handsome and charming producer. Oh yeah... his music is fantastic too!
Loving the attitude of Kenny Larkin. It's very refreshing to hear someone talk why he bought a "Moog One" and a "Deckard's Dream". Many thumbs up at 8:06 ... hahahaha!!! :-)
Love that dude, he is such a nice guy and really explains what makes me do music - the feel! Awesome dude
So refreshing for a Producer to be so simplistic and real in both his approach to the Interview and the making of Music.
The more I watch this guy the more I love him, I'm exactly the same with my modest studio.
This guy is my spirit animal
Telekom Electronic Beats, I Love you
❤️
always loved him
What an awesome nice bloke Mr Larkin seems to be - really inspiring
Been Listening to Kenny's music for many, many years. Legend.
Love Kenny.
A real talent and obviously a nice lad, too. I've always loved his music, Azimuth is an amazing album. I love his honesty about how he creates and where he gets his inspiration from, too. No pretence, just sharing the music. He's the polar opposite to some artists you could mention in Detroit.
I adore his energy
Responsible for one of the greatest remixes ever for me. "la synthesis - agoraphobia". Outrageous remix
The white guy from LA Synthesis used to work in my local music shop! Nice guy
kenny one of the real masters forreal! [edit] ...and he looks like a great person too.
I'm 100% self taught...A tinkerer...A mad scientist..A sample wizard.. A mix Master of unexpected sounds..so I understand the man.
This guy is a Legend! One of the best tech talk :)
I don't know who this guy is but now I'm hooked! Gotta check out his music because his enthusiasm is infectious! Very cool!

Ein Super lockerer Typ und ein tolles Studio.
Great to see Kenny in his studio, thank you for doing this
I’ve been buying his tracks on an off since the 90s. Always different and musical.
Buy? Whats this buy you speak off?
Yup, the glory these days is to be able to afford the vintage synth sounds through new versions of the machines. Samplers and granular synthesis is something that back in the day was inly for the rich. Awesome studio!!
Cool dude. It was refreshing to hear his take on things. The ending statement is hilarious.
What an engaging interviewee and what a bloody studio. Immense.
I love his energy
Kenny "Self-proclaimed Gear Slut" Larkin. Wonderful dude!
Detroit techno legend, thanks for uploading.
I think he is alluding to the distinction one might draw between a "musician" and an "artist". He is the latter but not the former.
love his fresh honesty. No bs...just truth and inspiration
Love his music. Love the way he goes about making it
This Is My Style of Thinking Love it
Never heard any of his music but I love his energy. Will be checking him out
