  • A documentary charting the adventure of a survival lifeboat converted into a self-supporting floating home by two architects. Through a journey of over 3000 miles from the UK to the arctic north of Norway, the film explores the idea of slow adventure set against the dramatic backdrop of the Norwegian coast.

As a guy who restores sailboats and who has spent almost 50 years biking ,hiking and sailing all around the world, I can't tell you how enjoyable this video is! I must of watch this about 20 times. Something about what these two men have done that keeps bringing me back to it. What a great job they did bringing this boat back to life. All the best everyone.

    Wonderful to live life fully.
Two things I would recommend however is
    1. To counter the sideways roll on the boat a couple of Fins attached on bottom of boat say at least 300 millimeters by 2000 long is definitely going to stabilize the roll very much as it has a very rounded belly and this will take the sea sick out of the stomachs to greater level.
    2. The Pitch on the propeller was designed for a 100 people wich you no longer need as you're carrying much less weight so going up a notch or three will save a lot on running your diesel engine at lower revolutions to attain same speed .
At your current RPM you will experience a little higher speed with a higher pitch prop if needed.
Normally an increase of at least 2 to 3 inches works magic.
Ps. Problems with feul pump can sometimes be solved by merely giving it a gravity feed directly to injectorpump by means of a small container placed on the roof. Can save the day of lying helpless or being Towed back to Harbor.
    Greetings from South Africa.

Did you know about that specific motor I mentioned weighing only 20 kg ?
      I don't think so .
A Diesel engine with sufficient power output can easily be totally sufficient for such a motor if needed. ( That's if one can afford it.)

As a seafarer, I am astonished how these two converted a lifeboat into a boat that can be filled with life. Choosing to live a life to the fullest and enjoying it in a slow pace, using their knowledge as architects and giving the boat a transformation is just amazing, believe me because I've seen many many lifeboats throughout my career. I hope that I can see your boat around Europe or somewhere. Steady as she goes! or in your word STODIG! Safe seas and enjoy life.

As a 9 year old boy I had the chance to spend 60 days in Norway, and from the 1st moment I set foot in country I felt I was home. When the day came we were to leave I told my family I was going to stay and goodbye, well yeah; that didn't happen and I was loaded on the plane back to the States. But after my 22 years of traveling the globe in the Military as a paratrooper. The adventure is in the journey, not how fast you get there, and these guys nailed it! I never found a place that felt more like home than Norway. I really enjoyed their epic journey video and would love to see more of the design plans for their lifeboat modifications. Can't wait for their next video!

Excellent film and inspirational project. Your adventure teaches us that there are other ways to travel and be in this world, centered just outside the rat race, closer to the natural rhythms of the sea, the sky and and the landscape. Bravo! Norway is such an amazing country, and I dont think you could have made a better choice for your year ( or so) of slow travel. Norway is the land of slow TV after all, and I have enjoyed hours of train travel through the beauty of the countryside.... so your whole approach fits right in. I , for one, hope that you are continuing to make more of these long form videos. Winter in Tromso on board would be much an interesting subject. Lastly, Guyleee, I just wonder if , perhaps you are working for a dear friend of mine, Snorre Stinessen who has an office in Tromso. I met him several years ago while doing a video on his amazing project at Manshausen Island. After seeing this video I wrote him with the link, so even if you don't work for him, you might want to reach out to him. He is an outstanding architect and a genuinely great human being. Keep up your inspirational projects, and thank you for this beautiful and thought provoking film.

On the flip side the things are close to unsinkable, you can cut one in half and both halves will still float! About the only thing that will sink one of those lifeboats is an on board fire... Really though the plan would be, if I were sailing her, to head for sheltered waters if bad seas are incoming. Boat like this is not so much about the destination but the journey so waiting out a bit of bad weather is not really an issue.

The one thing missing from your design, in my humble opinion, is the lack of open deck space. I know you have the roof but I mean place to put a small table and a chair or two perhaps.
Have you considered a swim platform like the ones you get on modern wakeboard boats or something along those lines? You could even have a drawbridge type system that can lower from your stern when not in use.
looking forward to your next video.

How is your Stern door/hatch fixed to the hull ? the hinges don't look very stormprof a big wave from the stern in to your enclosef deck area may fill the boat with water. I would recommend re doing the door solution with bigger hinges.
Bolted with bolts and nuts .
If the hull or door is made of sandwich laminate its necessary
To carve out around the bolt hole and fill with resin otherwise the bolt
Tension will crush the component laminate.
    This causes leacks
Also the storm locking solution need to be sturdier . Think ; big wing nuts in brackets or a crossbar Over the opening. This ensure good pressure on the door seal.
If you want the doors/ hatches to match the hull in durability that is.
And those life boats are reely duribal compared to a consumer boat.
Good idea to match the hatch to that if you are going too cross the north sea with it Some day again...
    Othervise a cool prodjekt!
I am also curious about what the price of the life boat was when you got it.
espesely when many cruise ships face dismantling due to the corona cruise stop . Many life boats on them...
    Have a nice 2021

I had 5 bypasses on my heart in 2020 I have been in kidney failure since 2015 started hemodialysis in 2017 3 times a week so going on my 8th year. My son two and a half weeks after I survived the by pass surgery . My only child went to local hospital they perforated his airway and they killed him. So it’s been a rough time. I live in Beaufort North Carolina USA Graveyard of the Atlantic. The Outerbanks are gorgeous unspoiled from here wild horse roaming the islands beautiful camping sailing fishing . So I Suffice to enjoying what I can where my kinfolk survived hurricanes and worked the seas. Over the years I have had work style boats converted for my lil adventures for excursions shrimping clamming oystering net fishing crabbing. Always an adventure. I love the cinematic effect you guys did. It has this slowed down feel. How does one do that? It’s awesome.
By the way I couldn’t be inside that ship in any amount of rough seas 🤢 but the whole idea and concept is super cool!

What is the range of this lifeboat? Cruising speed? It's easily 1,500 miles around Norway, not counting deep excursions up the fjords. Also, with all that plexiglas that is not insulated at all, how do you keep the interior warm in the winter? I know there is a wood stove, but is that adequate? Anyway, thanks for a look into a slower, calmer lifestyle - almost like what I live now that my wife and I are retired and living in a covid-stay-at-home manner.

We cruise at 6knots, range with our diesel capacity is about 700 nautical miles. Our total voyage was around 2700nm. The 10mm plexiglass is single layer, but is definitely more insulated than your average glass window. We have triple layer canvas curtains that help keep the heat in too (and sun out in summer). The wood stove is 5kw and really pumps out the heat after a cold day!
