Thanks for all your knowledge and education on permaculture and stuff like that I'm healthy into it and I tried to practice mostly your stuff on my property keep up the good work
I've dug out at least 500sq feet of bahia over the last two years. Really need to rent a sod cutter to clear out in between my fruit trees. Thanks for the demonstration.
i can tell you that i planted bananas in clay against the house last year and raiseed them an inch and then an inch of woodchips and the biggest ones stem fully survived where as where i planted in some raised loam in a different area they all rotted out over winter and fell over because they sunk down below the soil level and were just soaked all winter, we got atleast -3c once and -2s all winter was a real bad winter for constand frosts but the east facing bananas all survived mostly :)
I have learned a lot watching your videos. We are looking for land in St. Augustine area and hope that we can do a food forest. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
I was lucky. Our sod had died off a long time ago but there were lots of weeds so I waited until it rained, then used a rake to pull up all the weeds and old sod. It all went in the compost. I originally did about fifteen square feet and then over the summer, did our full front section that was separated from the other parts of the yard. I prefer annual planting but I've got a banana and mango along with a few others we have in the back. Really appreciate your videos, man. - Jacob (zone 10b)
Acoatof Gold / Jacob, I'd love to see a picture of your project. Did your weeds or grass return? We have some unwanted grass that returns during rainy summers to our food forest. Wood chips are no match [need to increase the wood chip level in that area].
Thanks for sharing Pete! Great stuff and always nice to get ones hands dirty! What is the ball park range of cost to the client, including all work, plants etc? I have a similar sized area and would just like to get an idea of cost. Thanks again.
I love to see permaculturists actually putting in work! Many just want to teach but how can you teach others if you don't do the work yourself. Great stuff Pete!
Pete, this video format is awesome! I'm getting an edible landscaping business off the ground in northeast Alabama and seeing your professionalism in the field is a big help to me.
this is exciting haha, id love to put my bananas at the end of a gutter pipe that goes into my garden but they would just rot out over winter cause all our rain comes in winter
@@KiMoKo9787 hey thanks, turns out the bananas can sit in a puddle of water all winter long so im excited about that, but will definitely try this for papaya!
Great video, Pete! I'm just getting into designing and installing for urban landscapes in the Houston area. Would you mind if I share this video on my website to show what's possible in an urban area? Thanks, and great video, as always!
Pete , I sure am having a hard time planting pots high !!! But I do see your point. Once the mulch is brought in. I hope you share the arbor install . I need one for my yard :) I was going to suggest the muscadines on the back fence but then I heard the passion fruit :)
Pete, can I ask you, why are my ice cream bananas like Styrofoam? I waited so long, and of course Irma knocked the trees over (Clearwater), finally some started turning yellow, but it's like eating foam insulation or something.
If the plants fell before the bunch was mature and there is not enough flow left through the pseudostem, the fruits will still turn yellow, but not ripened properly. They will have that dry/styrofoam taste - leaving a starchy/latex coating in your mouth after eating since the starch has not yet converted to sugar. Depending on whether you have Namwa or Blue Java (people sell both as Ice Cream), the timing for best eating is different for properly ripened fruit.
You are Mister thunderreparadisegogogo ..... I'm amazed at your speed .... can't think of anything that you would need to know ... actually: since I come from an asparagus town (Go Fuhrberg goo.gl/maps/qPJx73VPCvn) , we have about 1000 acres of traditionally grown k i l l i c i d e asparagus in the belt around my 2000 people hometown, can you grow asparagus north of Tampa?
Dude, I really want to see that Barbados Cherry arbor! Please do a follow up video so that we can see it in all its glory!

Blaculo yeah if your not using it all the time it's well worth renting.
i like your tree planting method ima try that cause i have a problem with removing piles of native soil and then not knowing what to do with it lol
BetterYouBetterWorld it works well for us. Please let me know what type of results you have.

Great stuff Pete!
Brad Suarez thank you! I don't play when it comes to hard work.
WHAT IS SOD
most companies would probably just take the topsoil away lol good on ya for trying to keep it
Hope you take us throughout this backyard transformation. I'm interested in seeing how the Barbados Cherry trellis turns out. Loving the videos Pete!!
Zachary Galliford for sure! Thanks

Build up a big 5-6ft mound to plant them in the center so the water is still lower than the main corm and it shouldn't rot

Ron Hart it's definitely the best bet longterm in our experience. The arbor was ordered and should be in now. I'll be sure to make a install video.

Jealous! I've been trying to find a Lychee tree everywhere and haven't been able to!
MSouthworth85 they should be available a the larger nurseries. Where are you located?
