Dude yes! My sister and I would play this for hours on the road trip to Myrtle Beach from Ohio. We always would get the star in the right place as to not accidentally grab it and then work of breaking all of the blocks in the cave. Riding bullets was awesome, esspecially when you use the tiny mushroom.
I used to play this with my next door n eighbours and we did the same bullet bill thing lmao, or we'd use a mini mushroom on the pipe stage and wall jump to the top so we were on top of the pipes
Me and my cousin used to play this game so much it wasn’t even funny (in comparison to how much screen time most kids were allowed to play at the time, meaning we only got to play so much because we were both visiting my grandparents house and they don’t have many rules, we played like 10-12 hours a week which was a lot more than most kids our age got to play on a system parents thought would “rot the brain” because it was new, addictive, and caused headaches and eye pain due to kids putting their faces directly on the ds screen continuously for great periods of time on max brightness without blinking and so some parents got paranoid thinking their children were being exposed to more rays or something, and that it was bad for their kids. Wow that was a really run on sentence. Blue shell was my fav btw.)

Me and brother used to do this multiple times back in the day. He was using Luigi while I was using Mario for most of the time. We sometimes changed characters, but for the part he liked playing while I liked playing as Mario.
I still remember one of the most badass things I did in this mode. I was playing against my friend in the grass stage and he was chasing me. I had a fire flower (I was Luigi btw cuz I love him). He was jumping over the gap when I hit him with a fireball. He lost one star and then another because he died. He couldnt jump out of the gap cuz the fireball stunned his character.
I remember always desperately trying to get the blue shell power up in the ice level and whenever someone did get it they just went into constant shell mode and it was basically unbeatable
CreeperCray I can understand why people hate castle. I didn't really like ice cause it was slippery and big. But I hated underground cause the blocks were breakable
