What year did the UP add the 3rd rail between Elmhurst and JN?

Golly, no stopped freight train at Oak Park? THAT'S unusual!

What year was the 25th Ave. overhead bridge constructed? I retired in 2013 from the UP as a hogger and do NOT remember anything about the 25th Ave. bridge! My, how things change!

I used to almost live on this train for decades including for a few years when I lived right by the Villa Park station. Would never live in VP now though!

Why would you never live in Villa Park?

PRHILL9696 Oh wow. I know nothing about VP, I always thought it was another Elmhurst!

@@staintedcards Just gotta be careful in general in and around Chicagoland. On the West Line, the worst places are still the West Side before Oak Park/River Forest, then Maywood.

16:45 the Panhandle Route used to come in from the right side, right? Someone told me that would explain why there is a PRR signal tower right there.

Correct. Looking at an old map shows several more tracks in that curve i forget how many.. I've been on that line now called Rockwell well over 100 times over the years. There's a few buildings and some right of way that shows signs of quite a heyday in the past. For the most part nothing is really there. During my career i've seen CSX dark territory operations.Twenty sixth street n interlocking ripped up. Brighton Park signal Shanty disappear all the way up to now with CTC installed on CSX and NS mains and, more mains installed (reinstalled) starting at 22nd street off the BN.

A super nice video. I often rode this line into Chicago when I attended Elmhurst College. The line was called the C&NW. Chicago & North Western, with the bold yellow and dark green colors. As I recall and observe in your video the train still runs "English style" on the tracks

A holdover from C&NW days. I remember seeing trains running "left handed" when I was a Seaman Recruit at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.

What is that annoying clicking sound throughout this video? Why is it the driver doesn't whistle for the rail/road crossings earlier in the video?

Because this line is entirely a quiet zone. Engineers are not permitted to blow the horn through the crossings except in an emergency.

Look for the " no train horn" signs by the crossings.
