5:20 Metra should've announced to those passengers at Lockport, IL that the train is running on a different track so instead of the engineer having to yell out the window, they couldve already been waiting on the proper platform. Great video btw!
This is one of the most underused metra lines due to how little it gets and it only runs on weekdays so therefore it gets less ridership than other metra lines and also because it has a short schedule each day so you barely get any trains on this line
Yep. This train I was on was during the fall excursion program on Saturdays between 9/9 and 10/14. It would have been nice if Metra kept this Saturday service, but I guess they would have to get permission from CN to operate more trains.
Two things I gleaned from this journey: 1: This train could do with a nice warm oil bath and a fresh pot of grease. 2: Train or walk? Not quite sure which would be quicker... 😉 This was cool, thanks for posting... 🫡
I always wanted to do this line many years ago. Just never had the time plus since this only runs on weekdays, I would have to pay a bunch of one way fares. Oh btw if you haven't already, you should do NCS #120.
Is that the same GMO line from back in the day where you see the Lincoln service in Texas eagle coming out of Chicago thru st louis? Do they share it with the heritage corridor? Sometimes I see freight trains out of Dwight but I don't know if they actually run freights coming down through Lemont and Lockport other than the BNSF just over the other side?
Yes it is the same GMO line. Amtrak mostly uses the heritage corridor followed by Metra and then UP. There are UP trains that run past Lemont and Lockport. I think they are all intermodal run throughs though.
@@oct197. Cool. I know you can go down right there off of route 6 159th Street there before you cross the canal out to Archer. but I didn't know if they ran freights up that line too Cuz the BNSF is just like steps away to about a half block the Transcon carry so much traffic before you go over the I and M canal high bridge.
Great video. Very informative. Interesting to see the new Amtrak cars. What is the "clang-clang' noise that starts up at low speed??? Is it the brake pipe re-charging or something else??
A map tracing the route, maybe a photo or two of the equipment would give this video more context. Presume a number of viewers are of the out-of-towners variety, unfamiliar with greater Chicago and the commuter service. Otherwise, nicely produced. Thanks for the post.
it sounds like when the engineer goes full blast with the horn, the pneumatic bell either slows down or stops until he lets up on the horn. maybe taking too much air from the bell system for the horn? weird

I think it was just last minute we were on the left side but yea.
Good video, I hope someday to make it to Chicago too see the metra
I already did
Nice. Thanks for sharing!
Gotta love the HC! 5 stops, 80mph P.S. I never knew there was a detector at 33.5 and also strange the train ran left hand main
Great video, some of the Signal Aspects I couldn’t See There color aspect……I would of been in Trouble 😮 ……Thanks for sharing
Thanks. I think it's just my phone camera and the sun light that caused us not to see it well.

@sgtgrash Thanks for watching. This line is pretty slow after Summit unfortunately. But it's a quick mover before that as we get to 79mph.
I always wanted to do this line many years ago. Just never had the time plus since this only runs on weekdays, I would have to pay a bunch of one way fares.

I don't think NCS 120 exists on the alternate schedules. Have you tried a day pass on metra? only $10 and you can go anywhere on the system
Oh they are still doing alternate schedules? Man covid really messed things up overe there.
@@BroadwayLTDProductions The alternate schedules are getting old now.. they did major updates on them back in december, but we need more again
I think 120 was removed like right before Covid happened. This is from what I’ve heard I can’t confirm it.
Great horn!

Thanks. Can you give timestamps where the clang clang is?
I realise it probably is the loco bell, ringing.
It's the bell on the cab car, the loco is several hundred feet back. Cab cars are equipped with horn and bell since they lead inbound
Thanks for you reply/confirmation that it is the bell. Being a dumb Aussie, it took me a day or so to realise this!@@Bardwell_Junction
Nice job! Will you ride the Milwaukee District North Line Sometime
The cab car is never open it seems
@oct197. Yeah, they are stingy with the cab cars on that line.

No, that's the point of straight cab ride videos is that it's just that ... As you see it
Go make your own video.@@minutemanmac
Nice job bro, are you doing any Metra side view rides soon?
Not sure
it sounds like when the engineer goes full blast with the horn, the pneumatic bell either slows down or stops until he lets up on the horn. maybe taking too much air from the bell system for the horn? weird
I think the bell and horn are different valves. The bell goes off when he sounds the horn.
Awesome video! Im excited to start taking the HC soon. Did you pre-pay your tickets online somewhere or just get them after getting on the train?
I got my tickets on the ventra app.
اللهم صل على محمد وال محمد goooood
is that the bells what makes that sound before lockport ? sounds like clockwork being wound up by a key dont get that in uk and europe just train horn
It probably is the bell. Most US trains have one
How do you film the hole thing
44:47 Strange place for a diving board .
47:42 Shame there's no interchange here . The last part of the ride ws agonizingly slow .
Unfortunately the speed is 25mph for that long bit. Don't know why.

56:49 why is there a p42
switching the amtrak yard probably
Why is it running left handed? I thought only the routes on the former C&NW ran on the left side.
I wondered that too. We ran right handed for the other times I rode this inbound.
The horn is loud when you’re in the first cart
It sounds nice however
@@oct197. it does, but it’s so loud

How does the camera stay on the window the whole time
I just hold my phone up to the window
