This looks like a good product. I've never had a proper bottom drain as I think that there is potential for them to cause bacterial issues; however, this is something that can be removed periodically easily and heavily disinfected.

agreed. I remember the koi whisperer had bacterial issues with his bottom drain. when ever you have holes in the liner you can have issues.

Personally i would attch a rubber 90° bend directly to the top of the retro drain it would be even lower profile then plus ive seen hosetails that fit 2" waste pipe so technically you don't need any reducers and 45° 2" waste bends and pipe are super cheap. The only thing you must do is wrap the metal clips on the rubber 90° with electrical tape or similar so the fish don't snag themselves on it !

    Nicely done ..
I need to see if they are available here .
I can't see them bashing themselves against it... I have much more things they could hurt themselves on and they never have
    How sturdy is that

You can build that low profile kit for under a tenner using waste pipe it’s not going to get broken with them being in the pond.

Well I have to disagree with your comment regarding cost. Yes you can do it with waste pipe in fact I did this myself originally but the design of the pond at the time meant I had to change the design.. here is a break down of costs in waste pipe.
      Pond king supplier ebay.
      90 bend £3.99
      45 bend £3.99
      45 bend £3.99
      Hosetail £4.49
      mr plastic limited
      1.5 inch waste pipe 1.5 £13.21.
It should be noted koi supply shops can be more expensive than a pipe shop.
Always remember postage costs when ordering.
      Total £ 29.67.
Not all pipes are equal in quality abs pipe and soft gutting pipe is very different to hard pvc plastics many people do buy the wrong pipe. I am not including pressure pipe in the the mix here.
For example I bought some black pipe from B&Q after cutting it found out it was not pvc grade but a softer plastic. If ever in doubt ask questions many thanks.

@@yorkshirekoi2246 that’s using supplier that puts koi tax on it. Use Toolstation and it will come in hell of a lot cheaper.

I dont know but to be honest it killed all my fish. But my gold fish in the smaller pond seem to hide in the fish cave alot. They did not do that before. I also have a red one which is missing.
