    FOR THOSE WITH AMD PROCESSORS:
You have to enable "SVM Mode" in your Bios settings, or else the virtual machine will close/crash immediately after set up.
Once enabled the virtual machine will run as shown in the video, and you can continue following the steps for set up.
IF YOUR GAME STILL DOES NOT LAUNCH:
Re-follow the tutorial using a Japanese Windows XP ISO.

Bless you times a million. Out of the twenty Y2K games I've bought, only one is refusing to start up. So I decided to get the VM program and didn't know what I was doing. Thanks to your video and another person's video, I'm currently waiting on my ISO file to finish downloading. I'll then be on my way to playing my sugar bean's game! :)

Thanks for your response. I wound up uninstalling and reinstalling VB and XP. Somehow I had initially skipped over the language steps. All good now, thanks for the great tutorial.

"Can't run 16-bit Windows program", have you encountered this issue ? The game I'm trying to install is a demo version of SystemSoft's Advanced Daisenryaku 98 II.

I'll take a look today, but try the Japanese Windows XP ISO if you haven't already to install a full JP VM and see if it will play

Not sure if it still isn't working, but if it isn't try right clicking the game in the xp VM and going to properties > compatibility and change the compatibility to window 98 or windows 2000
Apparently that error usually means that the program is too old for 32/64 bit windows versions which the xp ISOs are
If these don't work, maybe try getting an ISO of windows 2000 or 98 from archive and mess around with it

Sorry to double comment. Good news is, I was able to get everything up and running but the bad news is, my game is requiring the actual disk; in order for me to play the game. When I auto mounted my disk drive, it sent me through the installation wizard again.
Do you think there's a way around the disk requirement or am I not understanding, how to do it exactly?
Either way, your video was very informative and straight the point. I didn't even think of setting the VM up in Japanese, thankfully your video came up on Google.

Glad it helped up to this point at least!
I'm not entirely sure as I've not run a game that requires mounting just yet.
When you mounted your drive, was it detected within the VM or only your main system? You could possibly try turning the game into a .ISO file and mounting it to the VM with an ISO mounting program made for XP

You didn't have to find and install drivers? I have an actual XP CD (SP3, to boot) and it too me forever to figure out why I almost couldn't do anything on it and why it didn't have sound (having that glorious XP startup/shutdown tune is essential of course), and it turned out I had to go find and download a shit-ton of drivers to get it to work.

Actually, you can disregard what I said. I forgot that I wasn't installing XP in a Virtual Machine, I was installing it on an older XP era laptop lol.
Once the VirtualBox website came back up (it was down today), I did the whole shebang and had no such issues. Now to see if I can run some of my own old games on it lol.

@@humanconvertile Yeah luckily the Virtual Machine setup takes care of the drivers and such for you, so all you have to do is the regular windows installation and youre good to go. Hope games work for you!
