    It's great to see SOMETHING from Jetboil that is not proprietary. I've been running with their boiler from 2010. Still going, I have a 2L casserole and a 1L in addition to the standard kit. Also a frying pan adapter. Never ever used anyting but the default kit and the adapter. the stuff is just collecting dust. Proprietary stuff are bound to be downgraded to storage. But this clamshell coocktop is SO DANG COOL! since I found colemans, I absolutely want one, if I ever going to go caravaning or to a cabin.

    Great review.....also agree with you about propane cooking vs induction!!!!

      Thank you! I've really enjoyed this cooktop for my setup. I honestly never used induction with cast iron before and it actually works great! I'm happy some others shared their experience with me on it. I still prefer gas, but my favorite will always be open fire cooking.

    I've been using cast iron pans on my induction cooktop for the last decade. Cast iron and induction are a match made in heaven.
    The Jetboil does look like a very nice stove for camping though.

      That's really good to know. Never tried it, so I will have to give it a go now!
      I've really liked the jetboil.

    A good way to carry those little green bottles is with a section of 4" PVC sewer pipe. Glue a permanent cap on one end and a "cleanup fitting" on the other. The bottles fit nicely and you can easily carry as many as you need by cutting the pipe to the correct length. What I have seen on boats is to have the CO fitting facing down when mounted to your rig so the bottles will slide out. Good luck!

    Who told you not to use cast iron on an induction top? Cast iron is the PERFECT material for induction cooktops. Any ferrous metal works, but pure cast iron is the most efficient.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  4 месяца назад

      Yep, definitely didn't know you could. Was always told you could only use induction specific cookware on the cooktops. Another viewer also pointed this out so I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised! I still enjoy a gas system over induction though, and cooking over open fire trumps all of them for me.

    LET me solve your problem: 200-400Ah battery power, 400-600W solar. A DC-DC 50Ah charger. Then a 1500W mobile induction cooktop for summer use, 5kg/10kg lpg gas bottle for winter use, connected to a hose, where you have a Primus Gravity single hob on an click-on adapter. Then you have full flexibility all year round, all conditions, whatever you have for resources in your van. Then as a backup, you run a jetboil to boil water or heat up stuff. Just as a backup or when that is actually a whole lot easier. Because sometimes it is. That is what I run with, and I am out all year. if you don't live in texas, and you don't have a gazillion budget, this will take you through all year. When you don't have a lot of electricity, you just switch to lpg. and you only have to have a frying pan and a kettle specifically for the induction top. everything else can be used on the lpg powered gravity from primus. It's so cost effective it's bonkers.

      I have since used cast iron on the induction and am happy to say I was wrong in this video. Definitely works great! I just love my JetBoil system and have found some really nice tools to go along with it which make my van camp cooking setup great! Thanks for the support!

    I guess it's neat that all you need is in one bag, but my 10$ butane stove is still my go to outdoor and samgyupsal stove but I guess more stoves to choose from the better

    🤨 Did I miss something, why choose the jet boil over the GSI? Just because it is a kit? You can buy a lot of nesting camping pots for extra $300 you spent on the Jet Boil.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  7 месяцев назад

      Because of the size and storage. Yes, GSI actually has a lot of good kits for cheap I mentioned in the video. Great solution, and would be my #1 if I didn't have the Jetboil.

    • @thebirthmentor3683
      @thebirthmentor3683 3 месяца назад

      I was confused and surprised too! Because if you want to use cast iron anyway, why pay for a kit that includes a pot and pan that you don't need?

    Here in the lovely state of California these green one pound cylinders are banned. I believe there is an adapter to use the larger tanks so still a great idea until the state determines that outdoor cooking is harming local Wildlife.

    I understand that you cannot use the Jetboil gas cans with the Genesis Basecamp. That would mean that it would not work in low temps, say 5 degrees Celsius. What do you think?

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, the jetboil backpacking fuel uses a LP/butane mix to help performance in cold temps. Those stoves are designed for a backpacking scenario where the fuel would be exposed to the elements mroe then let's say in a overlanding/van situation. I have cooked with lp gas in cold situations with no issues. And I have cooked with this burner at -3c (26f) before with no issues. That's my personal experience tho, and will let you know if issues arise!

    • @SteveB88
      @SteveB88 7 месяцев назад

      The best fuel cylinder for the set up is a 5 pound refillable propane tank. There are two different ones available. One starts with an FL and the other one starts with an ig. The FL one is the cheapest. And the ig one is about twice the price, but it comes with a case and a little adapter hose. I have the ig one and I pretty happy with it. It works really good with this stove. I have to abbreviate the brand names because if I list the brand name youtube will delete the comment. They don’t like you listing brand names, in comment sections for some reason.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the value add comment! Yes I know the ones you're talking about and I'm happy to hear they work great. They are on my list to personally pick up for my setup.

    I am close to getting this item but how is the wind shield? It appears it is the weakest feature?

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  4 месяца назад +1

      I've only used it a few times so in all honesty I can't speak to it that well. With my van, I'm able to get out of the wind pretty easy to cook. It did work the times I had to use it, but yeah I'd agree that it is a weak point.

    What is the point of use induction? actually is better than gas or other fuels… If you are outdoor you need to use charcoal or wood

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  3 месяца назад

      I cook over open fire as often as I possibly can. Obviously fire restrictions can cause issues there. That's why I like this system. Portable, small, and works great.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  7 месяцев назад +1

      Personally I have not. Everything seems to be fitting snug. I have a detector in my van and it hasn't gone off once. I cook outside as much as possible, but have done about 10 meals inside and havnt had any issues with leaks.

    • @rileyclarkfineart
      @rileyclarkfineart  7 месяцев назад +1

      @TempleMuayThai it really is awesome. For me, the pot is a bit big for solo cooking but I get it's that big so the burners fit inside. It's been absolutely amazing tho! I'll keep an eye out on the concerns you mentioned and will report back if anything comes up.

      Yes you are correct. I have used the lid on lower hear situations with no issues but it shouldn't be used when cooking on skillet. I definitely miss spoke on the video here. It's great for keeping food warm!
