The first VSC where Max stopped for new hards was the most overlooked event in that race and was absolutely crucial for how Max won it in the end because it meant Hamilton couldn’t stop for new tyres when Latifi crashed
And Checo closing the distance between Lewis and Max also meant that there wasn’t a safe enough window for Lewis to pit for softs after the Latifi crash wither
Exactly absolutely every move that Red Bull made that race was crucial to win. The new tires under vsc, Checo creating a smaller gap between Lewis and Max and then getting the final pitstop under sc. Without one of them Lewis would have had a gap to do a pitstop and Max would have never won.

I had never heard that clip of Max’s interview at the end. The awareness of the sacrifices and human cost (the marriage and his sister missing her dad) are really mature comments from Max. He felt the cost and the emotion of the victory brought forth the awareness of what everyone did for him rather than just focusing on himself. Full respect to Max for acknowledging that.
I don't know which TV channel u used to watch the last race of 2021, but at ziggo ( Dutch TV station) Max told this in a interview even before he was racing in f1. Mercedes were very afraid to pit Lewis, and lose the nr 1 lead position. They made a decision, they made a gamble, which they lost. This is sport, and had nothing to do with 'not followiing the rulebook. RB pitted Max for new tires, and Mercedes didn't. This is the only reason why Mercedes did lost the championship. max absolutely deserves the championship and the race win. shunt and safety car turning a race upside down have been part of motor racing for as long as there was a motor racing. at 23, being able to drive one lap the way he did, max is indeed super max. LH fans (some of them) are just toxic. whatever they believe may have "helped", they always fail to recognize all the "help" LH and merc got throughout the season, and the fact that it took a super talent and mental fortitude to perform the way max did under such pressure! people who never give due credits have no credibility, period.
@@tiax1592 yeah of course it was also shameful. Like the stunts Schumacher pulled. You think to be a fan is thinking otherwise 🤔 they were all great drivers like Max is now. I can separate that. You clearly do not
Don‘t mix Max‘s performance with what happened in that race, he is maybe the most talented driver ever (definitely one of the most talented ever) but the win in Abu Dhabi was handed to him because according to F1 rules, you have to let all lapped cars pass or let no lapped cars pass, you can‘t deliberately chose and say we are going to let some lapped cars pass and others don‘t, thats simply not fair to the other drivers as well. Masi broke the rules to artificially create a racing ending which should have been exciting but what excitement is there when one car is on 40laps old hard tires and the other one is on fresh soft? Even the Alpha Tauri would have overtaken Lewis in that case. Also Mercedes could have pitted but how should they know that Masi would break the rules and let only the lapped cars between RB and Merc pass, because if everything went according to the rules, the race would have ended under the safety car and then Mercedes would have lost track position so considering everything goes by the rules it would have been very stupid to pit. Masi broke two rules that day (Which the FIA also admitted to btw.) and that handed Max and easy win.
I truly enjoy the new iteration of Formula 1 racing and the cars are definitely fun, but I must admit the cars last year were absolutely top-to-bottom beautiful. Absolute precision-cut gems of aero engineering.

The fact alone, that Red Bull even won this race is an absolute miracle. Mercedes pace was just out of this world the last few races since brazil
Exactly absolutely every move that Red Bull made that race was crucial to win. The new tires under vsc, Checo creating a smaller gap between Lewis and Max and then getting the final pitstop under sc. Without one of them Lewis would have had a gap to do a pitstop and Max would have never won.

@@darrenowen3338 The racedirector had legal, full authority by the rulebook to make the decision to let only a part of all the backmarkers pass the raceleader. This was fully legal at that time. Mercedes were very afraid to pit Lewis, and lose the nr 1 lead position. They made a decision, they made a gamble, which they lost. Kind of gives you cars 3 vibes doesn't it😊
3,2 miles that was more exciting than even 2008 finale, still gives me goosebumps and joy of redemption for Max 😊
I was on night Shift and shouted at the top of my Lungs! It's just incredible to witness something like this. I can watch this replay for the rest of my life.
Incredible Max, what a climax, the world was ready for a new king
A choice climax indeed. Hail the new king.. now 3 times ;-)
The fact that it was latifi fighting with shumi's son and this butterfly effect kept Micheals record is amazing
13:35 Is the embodiment of Max' journey and the completion of Jos' legacy. What a shot.
Max was so happy, first time his dad will not smack the shit out of him
Absolutely love your edit. It was the best season of F1 I have seen in my life (been following since the early 80's). Yes it's had its fair share of controversial decisions throughout the whole season, but in the end neither driver deserved any of the hate they got for driving their hearts out and fighting on and sometimes over the limit. My heart rate was insane for that final weekend and went through the roof in that final lap, I shouted my throat raw and balled my eyes out after the finish... what a season. That's how I want to remember it, so I'm not going to read any toxic comments but just enjoy your video of one of the most epic battles between 2 amazing champions in the history of F1. Thanks!
Being there in Abu Dhabi was the best day of my life so far. Such an amazing championship
no matter how many times I watch this I always get goosebumps. forever a legendary moment.
We all knew the overtake would come on that last lap, it just depended on how Lewis would defend it. He could not & it was "game over" at that moment. Oh for the glory of sport !!!
Wow. Wow wow. The editing on this and the way Checo defended - GOOSEBUMPS
You did in 5 minutes what Netflix couldn't do in 10 episode of DTS!
Awesome work mate 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This was the day I became a fan of Formula 1. I watch every race and qualifying now. Completely unforgettable this race was.
Oh you joined in at the right time. Formula 1 was so dull the last 3 seasons prior to 2021.
I put my missus through her first season in 2020. She watched me cheer for max, then watched me get dejected when he lost. To experience the 2021 season going blow for blow together was exhilerating. And it was one of the best overall seasons in history. Welcome to the Paddock friend.
@@Formula1WRLD nah it was amazing for me as a Lewis fan since 2013
Yeah..me too...
Watching this over and over again, it still brings tears. The passion all these people bring to the track is so wonderfull! and yes , i mean that about every team. A great honour to be able to watch it. Thnx...
This was a tear jerking day for all fans. Checo you are a legend!
i know this race by memory from start to finish but still ended up crying, my god i love this sport
Even though Albon lost his seat he gave everything he could to the team and was arguably the happiest for Max
Lol I think so to. He REALLY helped RB and Max with his work behind the scenes, also a legend in my book 👍
It was not albon on the radio, it was max engineer.
it wasnt Albon , it was GP
It absolutely was Albon, not sure why you people think it was GP. GP is way more professional and doesn't sound anything like Albon. Albon was celebrating like a friend would. He lost his mind and I loved it. There is this narrative put out by some that Verstappen is unlikeable but the other young drivers do like him. It is clear to see.
Not Albon. He said so himself. “That Wasn’t Me” - Alex Albon Discloses Secret Behind Popular Abu Dhabi GP Moment
The Last lap still gives me goosebumps man. Tears in my eyes I remember almost grabbing the TV In celebration couldn’t believe it. I remember crying my eyes out when he crossed the line
Only started following F1 seriously since 2020, but instantly got hooked by the raw talent Verstappen displayed. Seeing him win the 2021 world championship only a year later was a truly magical moment, and I'm so grateful to have witnessed it live. F1 has been a godsent for me personally, watching every race live and inviting friends and family to watch it together. Greatest sport ever.
I had been going through a deep depression when I discovered F1 in 2020 and found Max. His fierceness inspired me. I was literally screaming when Max won.
Easily the MOST INTENSE F1 season of Hamilton's career. Who ever said Ham was "tired" was obviously not paying attention. Disappointed Abu Dhabi ended in controversy, but Max absolutely deserved it.
There is no controversy. It was a disgrace. Masi fucked that one up real good. Of course Verstappen was deserving, but he didnt do it. Shameful day for F1
@@markuss4133lol if even in 2023 you still believe it was a shameful day for f1, you are not a fan of motor racing. ayrton senna, by YOUR measure, should be the biggest shame of all in the history of f1! and go ahead, i welcome you to finding someone who agrees with you! 🙄🙄🙄
max absolutely deserves the championship and the race win. shunt and safety car turning a race upside down have been part of motor racing for as long as there was a motor racing. at 23, being able to drive one lap the way he did, max is indeed super max.
