I feel your pain with the equipment maintenance always something needs to be done and not enough time in the day week month or year and not getting any younger
You are doing a great job! You will have a great 9 when you’re all finished. I don’t know how you’re able to work that hard in this blistering heat. Stay hydrated and cool. Keep up the good work, soon you will be in the seat pushing dirt. 😎
Great video Jeff glad to see the other track frame off and upside down ready to start stripping it for the refurbishment. Jeff you may have a yard full of equipment and parts. But it saves you money when you need it too. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Jeff.
Your doing pretty good for an old guy... I turned 75 this spring and two things are evident...first is some things go a little slower and second my nuts aren't of much use anymore :)
The right stones with the right dress at the right angles will give a better job than any cutter but getting the angles right and keeping them that way thru the whole process requires careful attention. Cutters are super easy to wind up with seats that are not eccentric to the guides so have to really be careful with them too.
Nice Job Mr. Jeff! I for one know exactly what your going through because I been there. It's hard work for a young man, let alone for a senior man, ha. I've noticed some of these keyboard warriors have no Idea. Most of them don't even have any content. Carry On My Man, Your Doing Fine!! TGP
I love these old CATs geff like you said it's bought and paid for no extortionate monthly payments or stupidly high purchase price and these old machines just keep on proving that so long as you look after them they will last a lifetime 👍
G'day Jeff, When you mentioned the leaking head on camshaft side , I thought you were going to say you needed a head job ... But apparently it's the tip of your tool that is of most concern ,,, Should make a great episode Jeff , Looking forward to that one ,,as always. Respect....!
Using stones to do a grind the seats when doing a valve job is perfectly fine if the equipment is not worn out and the stones are in good condition. That said I do believe it takes more skill to grind seat angles than using a carbide cutter but that is not to say that someone can’t screw up doing a valve job using a carbide cutter because I have seen plenty of examples of that over the years. I guess when it comes down to it using stones or cuutter(s) depends on whatever floats your boat and you are comfortable doing it
@@Failure_Is_An_Option New equipment will have break downs too. Especially with all their emissions equipment on them. Plus all equipment needs service and repairs done to it. Next
Anti-sieze story time. The tool truck 0/0 wouldn't warranty a socket for the truck shop. So the shop owner kept the tool truck operator busy, while the head mechanic with the broken socket went in the tool truck with a little anti-sieze. He just put a light pass under every drawer handle of the display tool boxes. You know everything in that truck had a silver tint by the end of the week.
That’s not a junkyard. Some of the machines in that yard have made a lot money for many people in the United States and across the world , very reliable and efficient ……. a few scrapers and a D9 can move a lot of dirt. With good maintenance they can last a long time until a rebuild . I’m sure that old D9 of Jeff’s bought and paid for itself many times.. while you have other people that are buying new equipment and that are making a big payments.
What does equipment's past have to do with anything? Is this a museum? A charity? As for those running newer equipment... They are running newer equipment. You know... the requirement for revenue. They have no issues making it work.
A lot of new stuff is junk….if you know you know. My bung hole puckered when I saw you had that dang Ingersoll gun out….seems to be going ok. 😳I am like 16:28 in and no melt downs over that gun🎉
It really is impressive that you can keep all that junk running and make money with it. I’m in a similar situation, but I don’t have as much junk, nor the years working on it.
DONT FORGET IF YOU WANT A GOOD VALVE JOB IT STARTS WITH THE GUIDES. IF THEY ARE WORN YOU WILL NOT GET A PROPER CUT ON THE SEAT BECAUSE THE PILOT SHAFT WILL BE OUT OF LINE..
Jeff. I can relate to the j yard, wrong , that is salvageable merchandise. The payment, not also. Some of the things I use and reuse, younger people won't mess with it
That’s the people who come over from Seattle that say stuff like that want you to conform to what they want or your the bad guy trust me I know I’m in north bend got as far away as possible from Seattle. They followed. Idaho needs to put there guard up god bless stay safe guy
Been hot here in western SD, about 105-106 for the several days, last nite it rained (sideways) wind blew at least 70 mph for 15 minutes some hail and 1.5 inches of water. Took tree limbs off everywhere, power off today, got to 104 today again. Power probably won't be back on till tomorrow afternoon. Running generators so I can keep the kitty cats cooled off.......😸😸😸😸😸
Content creator KT3406E posted a long video about an in-frame of a 3406 that i was in the middle of when Your notification came out. If You haven't been aware of His content it's well worth checking into. With the temperatures we've been having it would be tempting to dust off the light plant and start sleeping day light hours. Just be safe Jeff and Best Wishes to You and Your Family. #TuffEnuff
Mr jeff if its that hot, hell with those coveralls, just get dirty, cant imagine how hot those are, lay card board down to lay on, but i guess it is sometimes better to wear those to keep dirt an grease off of ya, your the toughest older gentleman i know, awesome work, keep up the amazing work, may sound crazy but i love doing that kind of work, something about it thats just satisfying, wish i lived closer, would love to help work on those old school machines, thanks for sharing an I look forward to seeing the next video 🇺🇲💪✊🤙👍
Payments are a bitch, besides I’d take that old iron over most anything new they’re making now anyhow. It’s all garbage when they get hours on them and won’t last like the old stuff! Fine junkyard, I’m jealous of your collection!
no a/c in the shop, plus I can't man handle that around inside the shop, nor steam clean. and we have a zero weld/grind policy in the shop, now if I had a weld shop I'd be in it
Well hell Jeff, now you’re working on the shade side… “one man’s “junk”, is another man’s gold”…, as the saying goes. I have a similar one (nowhere near the scale of yours), my wife calls it junk. Jeff wins, Jeff wins, Jeff wins.., Great video, Thank you sir.
You remind of Warren@ Westcoast truck/tractor repair
My dad operated them old d8s and 9s for over 55 years may GOD bless you
Something to be said about keeping the old stuff running. As a mechanic wrenching on cars for a long time. New cars suck. Keep it up Jeff.
Yeah... the saying is lost revenue.

Thank You for the Reality Check! At 70 years of age, You have shown Me I can’t own a vintage D9! Lol.

Great reality TV for me. I loved working on the equipment with my Dad.
Keep on being tuff as nails Jeff
It was always a lot of fun wrenchin on the track frames/final drives on my old D7. But I cant imagine the extra Beef on a D9.
Ya getting it done bro. Safe travels. Ken.

The problem with old equipment is the new operators. They don't know how to run it.😊

The fun never stops.
Thnks Jeff for your videos and experiences. I love CAT unfortunately im not in that business. Doin all this work by yourself...please be safe

Have you ever run the numbers on owning and maintaining the good old iron vs making payments on the new stuff?
I just wrote a long reply and accidentally hit cancel, I'll respond in a video rusty

That block of wood is definitely not iron bark, you would need a fork to lift it if it was.
Lol, junk yard, year right. It's an F Gold Mine. can't beat real iron 🍻 Jeff.

Out of three 9s and a 7, one would think you would have a machine usable before starting on another
Junk yard ? F'in trollers . Tbh with the tracks off it looks and moves like a train 🚂. Probably pulls like one too 👍🏻
Jeff’s Junkyard? Not hardly. My dad never bought a new piece of equipment. He’d buy Allis Chalmers HD5s in any condition for parts (or to rebuild).
Choo c n for Greta..1:00. Air arc 300 amps burn right through it hi air volume…your portable kat welder handle it…?.
I hope you're adding ORS/electrolyte powder to your drinking water in that heat Jeff...? Those are essential & will keep you hydrated.
Jeff's IronYard!
What are your temperatures in your area by the way? Hotter than usual? Hello from San Antonio, TEXAS as always. God bless!
Jeff did you do all of the hardfacing on the inside of the final drive cases?
No
WOW your soil looks rough is that fill or what? I live in prairie soil it is rich and deep with no gravel , how does any one get anything to grow.
thats gravel, I stripped all the dirt off, dug a hole and used the gravel to cover my yard then pushed the dirt in the hole
Mr Paydirt won some tied the other . 😮😮😮😊
