I would rather have older iron than this new stuff, to many wires and computers. I like hoses and linkage. Last longer and hell of a lot easier to troubleshoot and fix.
Jeff you are one heck of a mechanic. I like watching you work on your equipment better than when you show the equipment working. Happy birthday Mr. Griffin. I had a dog named Blue. She would get so upset before and during a thunderstorm. She would know hours before the storm was coming. I was told they feel pressure in their ears.
Great video Jeff glad to see the 637 back together and no antifreeze in the oil. Fix one thing find another that's the way it goes but you'll get it fixed to. Happy Birthday Mr Griffy🧁 stay safe Jeff.
I didn't recognize what you were working on til I seen the belly pan. It all came back to me seeing you pressure washing 3 wheelbarrows of dirt out of it !
About 6 years ago I had to get parts for my 57' Allis Chalmers d14. The parts guy was blown away that most of them were on his shelf. And he said he couldn't get parts for mid 90's tractors.
always love to see the adaptations you are able to utilize, last week i had the pleasure to run into a fella that worked for my dad in the late 70s and early 80s as an operator he is now retired but brought his blade over for a small project that a local club needed to do it was great to talk about the old days, had not seen him in over 40 years since i was a young kid those guys are going on ahead all to quick and leaving us behind take care mr dirt and be well my friend
Jeff, I’ve been using those 3m brushes for years. I still have the first one a mechanic have me when he was building an engine for my 66 GMC. He warned me not to be heavy handed with it when he was using it because it can take metal off. Naturally I had to try it for myself and they will infact take metal off. Not a big thing unless you’re mating parts, like a block and head. 3m makes a couple different grits too. They seem to last forever. Thanks for the video.
Glad that the cooler wasn't the problem. From here, and with no knowledge, it looked like you could have bolted the angle pipe on the front end of the cooler before installation and saved all that struggle with magnets etc. In any event Jeff won! - asusual 😊😊😊
Good farmer explanation of the axle geometry.😂 the swing radius is what makes me scratch my head with the jeep and tight roads. 4 axle on the tractor with 3 on a 50’ trailer is about the norm here. Most don’t turn for crap.
Jeff my uncle used to put a thin tape flag on gaskets that had to be put in like that front intercooler one just to keep his fingertips out of being part of the engine an yes if your not talking to your project hows it supposed to know being broke isnt the right way to be communication jeff its important! also happy birthing day mr griffy
Those plastic discs absolutely take metal off. Not a big deal for normal clean up but never to be used on cylinder heads etc... One of the machine shops here on the utube did a video and they didn't even need to measure it, you could see it with a straight edge.
Jeff your stock just went up in my book giving Mr Griffy ice cream. My wife and I always gave everyone of our 60 some odd dogs in 44 years ice cream on their birthday. At one time we had 13. If we didnt know their birthdays everyone still got some even me! Youre alright!
$6m dollar Jeff and his bionic spanner hands. I had a little dawg that hated thunder and fireworks night. I used to leave a radio on a music channel, she'd be fine, sleep through it all.
You must also give the machines appropriate names. A Staff mechanic once asked me why I started calling their 530 Case "Rahab." I said "It's simple. It's a hoe." The gray Ford pickup was "The Mare" (by then, it wasn't what it used to be). The D6 was Lazarus. The D7, Methuselah ...
I work with railcars which are spec’d for 30-40 yr design life. Also a requirement to have replacement parts available for the life. I wonder what the life is for these CAT engines is.
A neighbor had a New Holland tractor that was 4 years old and the payments were 1800 dollars a month. The shaft and gear that ran the hydraulic pump were bad and were discontinued. He found a burnt tractor and got the parts for a thousand.
Thanks Jeff for your explanation I just couldn't see how the forces went down to the ground. Give me the part numbers for the bits you wanted from Tillys and I'll see if I have better luck. I've emailed you in the past you should have it in your email app. Cheers!
I love how guys are appalled that you expect to find parts for a 40 year old piece of equipment, meanwhile I can go to any Mack dealer in the state and get ANY part for a 1960 R Model or a 1970's Superliner.
@@Jpaydirt well, my state anyway lol. I was some surprised to find out that we could get the original air powered HVAC controller brand new out of the box, we got a new passengers side door, the washer fluid jug that goes inside of the door panels, aluminum coolant expansion tanks, brake spiders, hubs, you name it. Then come to find out that what Mack had done was keep reusing the same parts for their newer trucks. Kinda like how you were explaining the turbo setup on the scraper and how you use parts from different generations of engine, but they all still work together. In New England, old school Mack's are/were a dime a dozen since they were the bases for dump trucks, cement mixers, road tractors, fire trucks, and everyone ran them for decades so replacement parts were always in high demand.
Maybe I’m taking you too literally but how do you ‘put 46K on the tandems’? You showed that the trailer weight applies to that rear pivot. So do you really mean 46K on the pivot? Or do you mean 46+23=59K on the pivot?
I expect the two guys that made those comments would have been millinery, they don't revise that old Cat gear was made to last,so with alot of that gear still around and operating why would you not still carry parts for those Machines,Always great videos Jeff, you are the man.
Now Jeff, don't be giving away mechanical secrets like cussing at the m&^(#@*)*#% to get that P@$%% of S%$@ back together... People will begin to believe it doesn't take any #@%#!! skill at all.
Each axle takes 1/3 of the weight from the trailer load: 2/3 on the tandem (46) 1/3 on the stinger (23). We mechanical engineers call Jeff's sketch a "free body diagram"
Love the "six million dollar man" sound effects

Happy Birthday Mr Griffy, and that treat shows why Mr griffy might have a few extra pounds.
That’s when my dad and I figure our stuff is getting old, when all the parts are in morton… haha

Hey Jeff, do dogs not get ice cream headaches? Mr. Griff was going after that cone!
Helium leak at 7:23😂
Self motivation
I couldn't even get a clutch fan for my 3406b. The closest one in the united states was a week out.

yup all the weight goes on the rear pivot point and the distance from each axle group to the pivot determines the weight applied,

Jeffrey put some hair around it!
Did you pull the rag back out of the oil line ?
Of course not, it adds more filtering to the oil....duh !!!

I still dont get how the stinger takes half the weight. Maybe some close up video because, no offence, your drawing was terrible 😂
Probably a shorter lever. Drawing not to scale.
Just accept the fact. Ole Jeff has no reason to lead you astray.
Leverage. It has a giant pivot pin. It's like a 2 piece swivel or key chain only tight..once you see it up close you can understand better..
@@hankclingingsmith8707 see it up close? You mean like in a close up video? Makes sense...
