0:57 "chords are groups of notes that sound good when they're all played together at the same time" Augmented and Diminished chords: Allow us to introduce ourselves
Augmented and diminished sound good, their dissonances can be consonant. Ambient or space music uses lots of augmented chords, jazz uses diminished chords too. Its a bad definition definitely though
@@simonsanchezkumrich8489jazz uses a crap ton more than just diminished, augmented and naturals as well as sevenths are most common (not saying you were saying jazz only uses diminished just so others know)
sometimes i'm sad that i didn't learn to play guitar a few years sooner but then i remember that if i had, i wouldn't have been able to use your videos to learn
One of the hardest things to do is keeping that first finger straight and not bending it back toward you. I have been playing guitar since 1974 and when I first started, this was one of the hardest things for me to do. It’s all in the past now, but I so appreciate you teaching people this because we didn’t have that in 1974. I was actually taking guitar lessons from soul surfer Johnny Fortune at David Platt music in Ontario. I was 23 years old. I’ve been playing every since I was 22. I know people go through a lot of hell to learn how to play this instrument. It’s not easy to play a guitar, especially when you’re a solo instrumental guitarist there’s nothing simple about it. It’s a lot of hard work thanks for your video. I appreciate you a lot. You’re really helping a lot of people out. I say thanks😀👍🎸🐂🎵🎶🎸😎
I have been watching your vids for some weeks now and this is the point were the new stuff I don't already know starts. But you explain everything so well and well structured that I can understand it without problems. Also all the random guitar things I heard from friends and on youtube start making sense and start to connect with each other.
I’ve been playing guitar for awhile, playing really technical pieces but never cared much to make my own music. I skipped out on a lot of the very fundamental basics. It’s so nice coming to this video, taking in all the knowledge, without needing to focus on technique at all. Super informative and great.
Some more tips on how to make barre's easier: - Pull the guitar in with your right elbow to help your left hand push down on the strings - Use the side of your finger to barre the strings (less fat and more bone makes them press down better) - Make sure you're not too close or too far away from the fret. Being too close means no matter how hard you press, some strings will never ring right. But being too far means they require more force.
For the video, I've been practicing barre chords for a couple weeks now but your roadmap and video have made them much easier to learn. Your also funny so thats nice
Been playing for years and never had it explained like this. This video was AWESOME. I loved it. Thank you for explaining it the way you did. Now I UNDERSTAND stuff.
Damn, you are a seriously good content creator/teacher. Your jokes are funny (well, 50/50 which isn't bad!) The magic though is even on the most basic videos you effortlessly fit in some theory which can either be ignored or taken in. As a returning player who's feeling a bit lost this stuff is gold and you've given me some direction on relearning old stuff and where to focus on new stuff. Most content creators either focus on practical or theory. Or have a big divide between their content that focuses on one or the other so the way you fit it in is amazing. Very unique and look forward to rewatching your videos with a notepad and seeing where your channel goes. 😊
Thank you for taking the time to make this lesson. I guess the bottom line is, no pain, no gain. Good job. This can't be an easy subject to teach. 🙏🕊️👍
Excellent lesson sir. You have made the complexities of music so simple for us in less than 20 min. A booster dose for learners like us. We salute the efforts you are making to establish the art of music into the hearts of professionals of varied fields.🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
I was just trying to explain bar chords over the phone to a beginning guitarist. Saw this vid and immediately sent it to him. Trying to explain how the E major open chord is the same fingering as the A major bar chord (with the bar) was just not working at all. Nice job. You didn't go into the ability to easily play 7ths etc.,using bar chords, but once someone gets the basics, some of the other stuff will come. Nice job, thanks
how can I play a 7th barre chord? I fell like my finger bone is pressing some strings really harder but my skin cant press the others, no matter how strong my finger is pressing, i never can press every strings.
Dude 15 years i have been waiting for someone to do a video with simple explanation on hot to play Barre chords! Great video and channel keep up the great work! Thanks you
I have ridiculously short fat fingers that just won’t bend the way they need to. I’ll probably never learn to play, but you are funny, dude. I’ll watch your videos for the entertainment factor alone. Thumbs up!
You can modify initial barre practice to be even easier, by putting a capo on the 1st fret. Then go from the 12th to 2nd fret instead. Or capo a higher fret to make it even easier. Also, great channel, bro.
holy shit, when you explained that the 6th root and 5th root bar shapes are how the e major and minor, and a major and minor chords respectively are formed, it's like my brain got unlocked and fell deeper to the rabbit hole
You are a Fantastic teacher. I have been playing open chords for all my life and wanted to learn bar chords. I didn't know notes on strings except the basic to tune, which I tune by ear. This was awesome! Still more to comprehend about how we know that the 5th low string on the first fret is E... I guess it's like we have to know that the middle C on the piano is the middle c, lol!
Wow, i wish my guitar teacher was as good as you when it came to explain theory stuff... Love your videos 😊 they are so helpful. Thanks for making this videos. Lots of love from germany. 👋
Subbed. Your videos have been a huge help! I’ve been following the levels to fill my learning gaps for about a month now, and it’s been working great. Keep it up!
Brother i am from India and I want to tell you one thing please don't stop making videos because i am following your every video and if you will Stop teaching i will not be able to learn because I can't afford guitar classes so please don't stop making videos.
thanks for actually explaining. I watched a bunch of different "beginner lessons" videos and soooo many of them just go "so this is where you press down, and then strum it, and that's what we call a power chord!".... WHAT do we call a damn power chord? That one specific combination of strings with that specific pattern? What does it mean??
You might not be making your finger straight enough. The problem might be that the strings are getting muted by the flesh of your knuckle. Try straightening your bar finger and give it another shot
Is there any advantage or disadvantage down the road to using the technically correct 5th string root major shape? I actually find that easier than barring with the 3rd or 4th finger.
I want u to make a video about how to not keep quitting practicing guitar and getting stuck and frustrated, u seem like u might be able to help a ton w that 🙏
Play what you like people quit because they dont love or dont have enough interested in the instrument to make them keep playing listen to guitar covers solos or fingerstyle watch guitar covers of your favorite music i did that and thought damn thats cool and i wanna be able to do all that, thats what kept me going for all those years RUclips players like, John Nathan cordy, sungha jung, alip bata, sophie burrel, josephine alexandra, ichika nito, tim hension etc etc i regularly watch all these players to keep myself motivated and ofc i enjoy listening to them
And honestly you will get stuck and feel frustated you definitely will everyone does but doesn't let us stop practicing because look what lies beyond imagine yourself playing all those cool stuffs. make that a routine at least 2 hours everyday thats bare minimum think about like this you have to study even though you dont like it MAKE THAT AN EVERYDAY ROUTINE
No matter what I do the B string never rings our i position and re-position no matter how many times I try I can’t get that one and only B string to ring , I don’t want to get the easiest way I want to learn how to play the bar as playing other chords will open up for me in the future by learning this
I often wonder whether my problems with barre chords stem from having a double-joined thumb; it tends to bend backwards at a ninety degree angle. Not sure whether I'm making excuses or whether that's making it difficult to apply enough pressure.
Bro…bro I was literally trying to learn bar chords last night. This man is litterly our guitar savior.
This guy keeps on using this word "guitar" but provides no explanation. Outrageous!

Something I noticed is that diminished chords are good for creating suspense and tension and then resolving it with the next chord.
"Just press harder" it worked, left a like
My finger said hell no, you're asking too much of me.
You can see some musicians turn finger sideways lay it on its side , for some people this is the key that unlocks Barr chords
@@Eddyvnhln5150 Thanks I'll try it and give you an update if it worked.
@@Ballinout30Did it work??
@@kaustubh6658 it worked but even that requires practice my bro, so it better to practice the best technique or if you're free do both if you like.
Hey Jerry Garcia was missing a finger and he’s one of the best of all time

Except no drinks served !😂😅
Better be a pirate barre because there’s extra Rrrrs in a Barre chord lol

Too much talking ,demonstrate more playing which is more effective
