jasonisstupid _ the musical follows the story a little more closely. Even in the original musical quasi was deaf, he was still a speaking/singing character though obviously
While I do have a flare for the dramatics, this is simply the best production I've ever seen of Hunchback. Joshua Castille is an amazing actor and just the absolute to talk to. A very sweet soul.
I love how he sign so beautifully and the guy on his right just trying to give him some space so he wouldn’t get hit 😂😊 sign language is my favorite Language.
This cast looks amazing, I love that they added sign language. Although the cast with Ciara Renee and Michael Arden will be my favorite, this one also seems amazing and I really love Esmeralda's voice of this cast. I wish I could go see it
If not for Michael Arden, Joshua might not even be there! Michael directed him in Deaf West's reimagining of Spring Awakening which made it to Broadway after one year! Joshua played Ernst.
This brought tears to my eyes. I really hope I get the chance to see this - I’m in a show across state, but if i get a night off rehearsal and work, i would DEFINITELY drive across state for this!
I love the brown haired woman in the second row, directly behind Joshua Castille! She was so emotionally involved in the songs and had the most precious expressions.
asdf74 In the original version of this show, they implemented sign language (not a deaf actor though) because in victor hugos novel, Quasimodo went deaf from the ringing of the bells. It’s such an awesome show that was actually on track to go to broadway until frozen came around. A real missed opportunity. Hopefully it will get to broadway one day!
Ddarra Smith Well, to be fair, because the stage version is darker than its movie counterpart and takes quite a bit from the original book, Hunchback doesn’t exactly scream family friendly entertainment (something people usually associate Disney with). Also, it had something to do with it having too big of a cast or something. Not to mention Frozen is still riding a big wave of success and Disney of course had to take advantage of it while the momentum was high
Ben Waldburger I totally understand why Disney did it, it makes a lot of sense for the company and main audience. Personally, after watching both shows, I feel as if Hunchback was better (although not fully accurate to the book or the movie as it took elements from both) purely based on content, life lessons, and music. It is a more adult show but it has so many things going for it that Frozen didn’t provide. But that’s just my opinion.
ok but my favorite part of this was a. Out There, natch, b. when frollo was singing hellfire and quasimodo was looking on like 'oof that's gotta hurt' it's such a genuine reaction to an amazing song - josh is such a good actor - I loved him in spring awakening
Okay, the whole interaction qt 4:07 is so pure and works SO well for the characters!! UGH. (Also, Quasimodo's voice is incredible, how have I never seen him on Broadway before???)
I can't wait to see it tonight! I have been wanting to see Josh Castille in a production! Super excited to see his portrayal of Quasimodo! And on top of that E.J. Cardona's voice?! YES!!!
I got to see this musical a couple months ago and it was so stunning, it was honestly the best experience of my life, if you ever get the opportunity to go see it please do it you won't regret it
Joshua castille gets to makebme emotional with his interpretation all the time... He cares all the emotions on his face, and it's like oppening a box full od treasures to look at him...
Watched it last Thursday here in Seattle. Amazing musical! Loved it! Still can’t believe it didn’t make it to Broadway, but I’m so happy I got to witness it first with this particular production. =]
Amazing! The fact that they were able to use a deaf actor in a musical is mind-blowing and it was done so beautifully! Major applause to the actor and voice actor, as well as the entire cast! Absolutely brilliant!
If I didn't live in England and so far away I would love to go see this, please get it filmed and sell it on DVD or something I really really want to experience this performance some how xxxxxxxxxx
What a fucking amazing Quasi- Couple. I am overwhelmed. That is the greatest emotion I've ever seen. I played that show 2 years with also amazing colleagues and I am sooooo in love with it. Love your interpretation soooooo much. Thank you for that.
I'm so happy this musical is still being performed it's so underated and my favorite musical by far. I saw The one with Michael Arden and was never the same. He went on to direct deaf spring awakening so The fact you use a deaf actor is just beautiful and Also it makes The most sense AS quasimodo was deaf in The book. This adaptation look absolutley wonderful and I hope it does really Well! Cheeing you on!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻✨✨✨🎼🎼🎼
OH WOW! A deaf Quasimodo had always been my headcanon. This would be awesome! I've been learning ASL this past year and I'm so excited to see this! (I hope I get to see this!). I've always wanted to learn how to sing in sign...like Spring Awakening...(but I didn't really like Spring Awakening that much)
My first language is British Sign Language so I take great pride in seeing a deaf person getting a leading role. But American Sign Language is fascinating
it's been two years and i just ask for a release of 'someday' or 'bells of notre dame' so we can see a bit more of this incredible cast. sincerely, i know you got the recording somewhere. 👻❤
I just recently discovered this production of Hunchback, is there anywhere I can watch the full stage production though? This is incredible and I would love to watch the full performance with Josh Castile!
I was in this production and we only had five gargoyles and they sang quasimodoes songs. I was Quasi. I said nothing until the beginning when they narrate the rnding
OMG Frollo face when Joshua is performing Out Their infact through most of the video mr grumpy pants to quote another Disney movie hey Frollo just Let it go
Oh my goodness the expression of the Quasimodos... breathtaking... I'm just curious: why do they have a deaf actor? It's not a very common thing, and I think it's really cool. I'd just like to know if there's a reason or if he was just the actor they picked and the other guy sang with him too
Their use of a deaf actor is really amazing. And in the original story Quasimodo was deaf from daily exposure to the bells.
jasonisstupid _ the musical follows the story a little more closely. Even in the original musical quasi was deaf, he was still a speaking/singing character though obviously
The deaf actor is Joshua Castille. He's was Ernst in the Deaf West Spring Awakening
@@quinnbenz987 And he's amazing.
Yup I think in the live action version of Hunchback they should use a deaf actor infact useJoshua he’s awesome
Ohh that makes alot of sense. Love it
Joshua Castille is the cutest person I've ever seen and E.J. Cardona's voice is brilliant. Two halves of a fabulous Quasimodo.
We totally agree!
no I can help josh myself with my sign language and I can also ask Ej to translate it for me and josh to help
Frollo's face during "Out There" 😂
Idk if hes in character the whole rehersal.😂😂😂😂
HAHAHAHA AND when he looked away at 1:32 😂😂😂
What about quasi's face during "hell fire"
1:13
Quasi’s face during Hellfire
A deaf actor and a singer for Quasimodo? *sniff* That's amazing.
AnaxErik4ever Josh Castille, he's amazing!
Um that’s the best performance of Out There I’ve....ever. Seen.
Jason Purdy definitely second to michael arden's for me bc i've grown attached to him and tom hulce but it is up there for one of the best versions
Same
The Quasimodo duo is fantastic!
0:18 that soprano high noooooooooooooooote, lord jesus she's AMAZING
Words cannot describe the depth of my love for Josh Castille
yes! I saw him in the deaf Spring Awakening on Broadway!
same. I hope he joins another project that I can go see him in
I love how almost everyone's faces just light up watching the guy playing Quasimodo. He gives so much energy and it's beautiful 😊
Everyone's just watching Josh sign during "out there" with huge smiles on their faces
Poor Frollo is getting hit in the face during 'Out there' lol XD
The power of ASL😅😅😅
Okay the actor playing Quasi is literally the cutest thing ever he looks so happy!
E.J Cardona has one of the most beautiful male voices i've ever heard. Ever in my life. EVER.
Omg have so much love for Joshua Castille
Omg he does, he just like "dont mind me"
While I do have a flare for the dramatics, this is simply the best production I've ever seen of Hunchback. Joshua Castille is an amazing actor and just the absolute to talk to. A very sweet soul.

Frollo looks so unimpressed by the whole thing
During someday he looked pretty moved by it to me
That’s Frollo for you sweetie he’s always like that
This brought tears to my eyes. I really hope I get the chance to see this - I’m in a show across state, but if i get a night off rehearsal and work, i would DEFINITELY drive across state for this!
We'd love to have you! Hope you can make it.
I love that they're using ASL for Quasimodo 👏
Well Quasi's actor is deaf so it was neceassary lol. But it's a great concept. I think they were the secpnd production to do that
I love the brown haired woman in the second row, directly behind Joshua Castille! She was so emotionally involved in the songs and had the most precious expressions.
That’s me! I just came back to revisit the magic that Josh & E.J. Created! Also my husband is the pianist featured so I was extra moved!
Hearing, "Out There," was as if I heard it for the first time. Absolutely stunning performances by both actors.
Great cast and really a wonderfull idea to use sign language in this story!
We can't take credit for the idea, but we sure love it too! This cast is amazing, no doubt.

What’s up with the human form of Squidward aka Allen Fitzpatrick every time someone is singing lol
Keeping in character. You can see him purse his lips trying NOT to smile during the end of out there
ok but my favorite part of this was a. Out There, natch, b. when frollo was singing hellfire and quasimodo was looking on like 'oof that's gotta hurt' it's such a genuine reaction to an amazing song - josh is such a good actor - I loved him in spring awakening
Lmao during Out There, he almost hits the guy playing Frollo😂😂😂
That top Bflat at end of Made of Stone just pings!
Jeez, is Allen Fitzpatrick just staying in character, or what?
Constipation
So like, can you guys fly me to go see this?? 5th Ave + Hunchback of Notre Dame = AMAZINGNESS
Just watching these rehearsals causes rain to get in my eyes.😢
I saw this musical sitting front and center and it is engrained into my memory as the single best production of a musical I've ever seen
Okay, the whole interaction qt 4:07 is so pure and works SO well for the characters!! UGH. (Also, Quasimodo's voice is incredible, how have I never seen him on Broadway before???)
I’ve had the soundtrack for years and love it! Just found these videos!

Oh my I wish they uploaded the full 'Hellfire' song.
Just watching the actor for Quazi is, no doubt, the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
I mean the guy on the left at 1:31 looks so thrilled.
josh castille deserves the world.
So beautiful signing and singing sooo amazing and how fast the piano had to play near the end of out there congratulations x
Have tickets! Can't wait to see it!
Spectacular.
What a fucking amazing Quasi- Couple. I am overwhelmed. That is the greatest emotion I've ever seen. I played that show 2 years with also amazing colleagues and I am sooooo in love with it. Love your interpretation soooooo much. Thank you for that.
Absolutely beautiful
Dude, the guy is wearing a "Training to open the Eight Gates" shirt to music rehearsal. Heck yes!!
I'm so happy this musical is still being performed it's so underated and my favorite musical by far. I saw The one with Michael Arden and was never the same. Out there song makes me emotional

I hope i get to watch this one day
Out There 😭
Dis anyone notice the guy on the far left during out there? There was some serious stink-eye goin on
At 1:30 the guy on the left looks so mad
Olivia Trussler he looks mad at all the video😔
Or maybe his in his character.
As a stage actor?
Frollo? Method acting?
Maybe he's trying not to cry from the awesomeness 2:06
Is beautiful
Amazing
OKAY THE GUY SINGING FOR QUASIMODO THO
Sang Dan'yelle Williamson💓
I wish I had seen this
I just recently discovered this production of Hunchback, is there anywhere I can watch the full stage production though? This is incredible and I would love to watch the full performance with Josh Castile!
Maybe I can't watch this musical because I already cried...too much for me 😭😢🙌🏻✨
*cries*
Silly question here, but how do deaf actors keep pace with the music? Like how does he know what rate to sign at
I was in this production and we only had five gargoyles and they sang quasimodoes songs. I was Quasi. I said nothing until the beginning when they narrate the rnding
COME TO DUBAI PLS
is there any chance of a top of the world video??
OMG Frollo face when Joshua is performing Out Their infact through most of the video mr grumpy pants to quote another Disney movie hey Frollo just Let it go
Josh is as sweet irl as he is here omg
Was this really 4 years ago?
That's such a weird triangle at top of the world. Frollo in between quasi and Esmeralda
And Josh get of that chair before you brake your neck
lol
Frollo’s face during most of the songs
The man who is sitting next to Joshua looks like he is Claud Frollo himself
Josh is so cutee
Is there a possibility of buying a dvd of the production?
Oh my goodness the expression of the Quasimodos... breathtaking... I'm just curious: why do they have a deaf actor? It's not a very common thing, and I think it's really cool. I'd just like to know if there's a reason or if he was just the actor they picked and the other guy sang with him too
In the book, Quasimodo was deaf from ringing the church bells everyday, and the 5th Avenue prod depicted that perfectly with Josh Castille :)
Thank you! The more I watch him the more it totally makes sense. I had no idea that was part of the original story so that's amazing. thank you!
1:21 why are you so mad? 😂😂
