      The quick answer is yes, it's all in the mainsheet - if you're working the sheet you can feel exactly where the 'edge' is and adjust accordingly - I think there's a video in that!

    Another great video. I think what has surprised me the most as I've just started Hobie sailing after a LONG time off is how much attention has to go into managing all the lines so that they don't become a tangled mess, are easy to reach, etc. Hoping to get some trapeze harnesses soon and try getting out over the water. :) Although, as I'm getting comfortable I'm only taking the 14 out and we seem to have misplaced the trap wires. grrrrr
    Might have to take a 16 if we can't find the wires for the 14. Not sure I'm ready for that jump just yet.

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV  5 лет назад +1

      If it's not too windy the 16 is definitely easier than the 14 - it's just the extra weight on land that is the issue.,

      Gear-Report.com if the 14 is not set up with a dolphin striker it is probably not suitable for trapezing. Unless it’s a turbo it probably never had trap wires. The front beam could collapse if trapping without a DS

    I find it a challenge on my 16 when the water isnt as flat as in your video. You get a lot of pitching and it’s hard to balance as you move out. Better to go out just after the tack when the boat is going slower?

    • @JoyriderTV

    Thank you for the great video! I’m hoping to take my first trapeze ride soon. It’s an older harness without an emergency release. Should I carry a knife on my jacket in case of getting caught? How big of a problem is that even? Thanks and keep up the good work!!!

      Isn't your gear just a loop to put a hook in?

    • @oscarmike9462
      @oscarmike9462 5 лет назад

      Mark Kurtis yes but I’ve read about people getting the harness hooked on rigging during a turtle and being pulled under. I don’t know how common that is. There must be something to it because in a previous video Joe says his harness has an emergency strap that releases the hook.

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV  5 лет назад +2

      It's always a good plan to carry a knife in case you or your crew get stuck in a bad position - for cutting rope or trampoline in an emergency.

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV  4 года назад

      I think that is worth trying to see if you like it. It can feel a bit disturbing to start with as you'll drop a little more as you go out but a lower trapeze will make you more stable once you're out.

    Nothing to do with the trapeze...By looking at the Hobie Pacific cat here in your video I can see some relevant differences with the Hobie 16. The trampoline is well spreaded right on top the two hulls making the sailing more comfortable...is that right? On the 16 it makes me think that you have the structure with the tubular section where the trampoline is laying right under your butt. Pretty annoying I could say...What do you think? But I like the 16, the way it performs and also the looks.

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, the Pacific has a lot more trampoline area and no raised platform makes it a more comfortable ride.
      But, you still can't beat a 16!
