Europe's Jewish Exodus (Full Length)

  • In the wake of recent terror attacks in Europe - several of which targeted Jewish institutions - some politicians and religious leaders have predicted an exodus of Jewish people from the continent. In some ways, the numbers stack up. Last year, a record 8,000 Jews arrived in Israel from France - with another 15,000 coming from Eastern Europe.
But some critics argue that reports of Jewish flight are overblown; they accuse Israel of taking advantage of fears in Europe to attract new immigrants and serve the interests of the Israeli state. “We are preparing and calling for the absorption of mass immigration from Europe,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in February 2015. “I would like to tell all European Jews and all Jews wherever they are: Israel is the home of every Jew.”
VICE News investigates these predictions of a mass Jewish migration - and the forces behind them.

96% of Israeli immigrants are settling in Israel proper. Let's devote 3/4ths of this documentary to talking about the other 4%.

  • @JJTanen
    @JJTanen 8 лет назад +8

This video is such a calculated hit piece on aliyahs. The reporter had an opportunity to actually examine why Jews are leaving Europe and their new home, and instead went on her agenda of doing a West Bank-related expose even though in her own admittance that only applies to 4% of Jewish immigrants. Here are just a few observations of why this is very dishonest presentation:
    1. 10:09 - Why was that talking head lady not identified? It's clear the reporter/VICE likes her enough to give her significant time but who is she? What's her organization? Why did the reporter never question her but instead let her just narrate her opinion without interruption?
    2. 19:00 The actual guy involved with Aliyah: "I am absolutely against any connection between aliyah and politics." -- compare to the reporter at 21:40 "It's clear that some new immigrants have been encouraged to move to the occupied territories." She also mentioned that only 4% have actually moved to the occupied territories.
    3. Why didn't this piece at all explore the 96% of immigrants living in Israel proper and their condition juxtaposed to life in Europe and Russia/Ukraine?
    4. How come no French official was interviewed about the serious threat of rising anti-Semitism and what has or has not been done to combat it?
    5. The reporter seems to believe only Jews with Jewish-held beliefs - people SHE deems "religiously Jewish" - should have an opportunity to come to Israel. She does not mention the *reason* Israel does the 1-Jewish grandparent law is because that was the same standard the Nazis held toward people when sending them to the gas chambers; in other words, if you're considered Jewish enough for murder -- even loosely -- you're considered Jewish enough for a homeland.
    6. Small point-- she made a female soldier look silly... for the record, ALL Israeli soldiers are required to have firearms. They cannot leave the rifle because it could be stolen and Israel has relatively strict gun control. That young lady is likely not going to be a combat soldier but administrative or in support (intelligence); they are not handing M-16s to just anyone and patting them on the back and telling them to go. Very manipulative moment on the editor's behalf.

that, I feel fully integrated in Israeli society and I am a proud
Israeli. However, I am very critical of Israel in many different
subjects and my opinions are definitely left wing. I feel that this
piece didn't fairly show the true conflicts in Israel and making
Aaliyah. I don't believe that news pieces are supposed to give answers,
but instead should bring up questions. This episode very clearly tried
to show one side, one group of opinions. I wish that VICE pieces about
Israel would interview people like me, just the average Israeli, to try
to describe the complexity and dilemmas of this amazing, conflicted
    country.

Israel has not yet learned how to be multicultural. And I think we are going to be part of the throes of that transformation, which must take place. Israel is not going to be the monolithic society that it once was. Europeans are going to be at the center of that. It’s a huge transformation for Israel to make. They are now going into a multicultural mode, and Europeans will be resented because of our leading role. But without that leading role, and without that transformation, Israel will not survive.

Right? They are so lucky to be able to go to a rich, developed state, that is fully funded and supported by America and the West. I'd love to be able to say to myself, "Fk it I've had enough feeling insignificant", and then move to a state that warmly welcomes me and provide me with all kinds of support and opportunities.

ARVIN US aid to Israel comprises 0.5% of Israel’s GDP. And as the previous commentator stated, there are many oil-rich Muslim countries you can move to. Their immigration standards are not like in the West so maybe you’ll get in.

^^ Arab loser or far leftist willing dhimmi in the house
Your statement doesn’t contradict mine. I acknowledge Israel receives military aid. It accounts for a minuscule fraction of Israel’s GDP. It also mostly returns to the US in the form of arms sales (the aid is conditional on buying military hardware from US suppliers). Clearly people much smarter than you in the US government have concluded that democratic Israel is a strategically important ally and helping it fend off the Stone Age primitives (who themselves received Soviet aid for decades) surrounding it is worthy of aid funds.

For those more familiar with the topic and the areas discussed, it is clear that Vice News is spending a disproportionate of time discussing immigrants moving to contested areas relative to the number of immigrants actually moving there, the size of these communities, and Israel's immigration motives. Vice said it themselves 4% choose to go to those areas - but how much percent the video's time was spent on the topic? Seems like a loud and clear undertone and agenda. Losing confidence in Vice's position and neutrality in their reporting with every passing day. Becoming just another unreliable news agency.

This video began to touch on this towards the end, but why is there such little conversation about Israeli and U.S. aggression and suppression in the Middle East dating back to the 1950s? Maybe that's why Arabs are "mad"...because other people and countries came into the Middle East post WWII and took all this territory without any sort of conversation or agreement with the people who had actually been living there and have a traceable lineage to that land. If someone came into where I lived and all the sudden said "This land is mine now, sorry, you need to get off" I'd be PISSED and guess what, SO WOULD YOU. It's happened to indigenous people all over the world, from Native Americans to Arabs to Indians to Aboriginals and so on and so on. The only difference with the people of the Middle East is that they actually fought back and were able to put up a substantial fight, so they're demonized for being able to stand up for themselves. Like all the big destructive colonial powers, Israel is committing war crimes against Palestinians, and in conjunction with the U.S. who has oil stakes and weapons deals to profit from the conflict. This national Israeli agenda is a giant scam, HELLOOOO!?!?! By supporting it you are supporting a regime that has taken the land from a people and subsequently imprisoning them, period. The way Israel colonized their land is downright hypocritical.

    • @basibazouk

This is exactly what is happens there. With all due respect, thanks to their evil media, political relations, and money, they are mirroring their own filth onto the ignorant and starved people who have been living there for centuries. In the 21st century, the fact that such a thing can be done so blatantly and, more interestingly, that it can be said openly and without shame is an indication of the hypocrisy of a society that considers itself "superior". Yes, there is a growing anti-Semitism, but it would be sheer stupidity to think that they don't have a hand in it...
