    I have been saying this for the past few months, you are 100% correct and soon we will be getting all of these upgrades plus zero blade play on the new Ultratech! Titanium clip with carbide ball, reversible and integrated titanium glass breaker housing, dual fuel, Torx and all of this is $40-$50 more they say… Add in the LUDT like you mentioned, the MSI and Stitch and I think Microtech is crushing it! Fantastic video, thank you!

    That glass breaker that everyone harps on is completely useable. It is a fantastic appendage to get someone off of you without resorting to cutting them. Calling it a glass breaker… come on now we all know that’s bs. OTF’s are not utility knives no matter how much people try to convince themselves.

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  Месяц назад

      It is a glass breaker..that's what microtech classifies it as, I do agree it can be used as a non lethal force multiplier, and as for utility if that wasn't a consideration the only option for the blade would be a dagger style... I don't dislike the original glass breaker because it doesn't serve a purpose, I dislike it because it doesn't serve a purpose for me and I didn't like how it was integrated, microtech has fixed this in the newest gen models so that you still have it when you need it, just my thoughts though, thanks for watching🙌

    You mentioned that M390 steel, but it's actually M390MK in the new models. The MK is supposed to be a little bit of an upgrade over the original M390, with a slight tweak in the carbon content for a slightly harder steel with a little better edge retention. I believe it's an exclusive to Microtech at this point.

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  24 дня назад +1

      the MK stands for microtech knives and is made only for microtech by bohler...dr larrin Thomas has tested m390mk and found very little difference in performance if any between that and regular m390, it does take a better polish but doesn't vastly effect it's performance in any meaningful way that a user would actually be able to tell the difference between regular m390 and microtechs version, if it helps with hardness recent tests done by third party sources haven't reflected that with many coming back around the 59rc range, so for all intents and purposes m390 and m390mk are the same steel to me😂 thanks for watching and commenting🙌

    I’ve collected just about every model of Microtech since the early 2000s. The quality of manufacturing is extraordinary. The reason I dumped most of my Microtechs, save two, is because their customer service is the very worst I have experienced. Buy a Benchmade or Spyderco for a responsive product support capability.

      It depends on what you're waiting for. If you are thinking about getting an Ultratech, definitely wait for the Gen 3 lineup. If you are looking at another model, the CT, Mini and full sized Hera, and Scarab are already Gen 3. I'm not sure about other models such as the Cypher, but they're probably Gen 3.

    I have a signature series combat troodon in DLC Magnacut and Ultem, great knife, fairly tight lockup, and it's around $700. I recently happened upon a Chinese clone of this special edition (shocked me that the Chinese are cloning this fairly rare sub-edition) and I couldn't help myself, I had to order one for comparison. Aside from being ALMOST totally identical, like only a handful of people who really knew what they were looking for could tell the difference, but honestly the Chinese clone fires harder and locks up tighter. It is definitely a bummer to see that. I've also bought numerous models of the new generation, the Hera II, the Scarab II, and especially the latter is just so damn sloppy. There's no excuse for these expensive knives to have this much slop when the damn Chinese counterfeiters can have them lock up almost totally firm. And I'm willing to loan my knives if you wanted to compare the clone, because it's outrageous and Microtech needs some accountability, especially when I've spent thousands of dollars on their substandard stuff. Sad.

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  27 дней назад +1

      Clones are convincing until you torture test them and the quality of the internals are revealed, granted most people aren't going to be driving otf knives into sealed 2x4's with a rubber mallet but microtechs have a history of being able to withstand sustained abuse and the clones almost never stand up to that..while that may be irrelevant to many who are only doing light cutting tasks anyways it's an indicator of quality and the ability for the knife to hold up for the lifetime of the user, and if it doesn't microtechs warranty is for life as well...all of this is to say that I don't support clones/knockoffs, we all want these knives to be less expensive but they cost what they cost for a reason - thanks for watching🍻

      @@Rollshambo no doubt man, and like their Ram Lock stuff? Phenomenal, I have a couple Stitches and just got an Original Goat set of aluminum scales for my MSI. Same with their side firing automatics. I just don't understand why my $500 Scarab II rattles like a bag of loose change? I suspect some third party could make a swift profit if they could figure out a way to lock up these blades much tighter and keep the reliability, I wonder how that might be accomplished... Speaking of reliability though, so my Hera II, when I first got it, would misfire during retraction maybe every three or 4 deployments. Here's the kicker: in a normal scenario you'd just file a ticket and send it back for QC work. Well, I'm one of the lucky millions who live in CA, where owning these knives is perfectly legal, and yet Microtech has some sort of issue selling us (and apparently even servicing) automatic knives. They're happy to have their distributors sell us their knives, though. But feel like I have no recourse. One of their employees privately offered to repair it for me, and while a nice offer, also is sorta sketchy and falls outside of many protections id otherwise have. I don't know man, I obviously have some love for the brand, they were one of my grails of sorts since I was very young and just getting into the knife world. It's just disappointing to have spent so much and to feel like they're just picking my pocket at the end of the day. Oh yeah, the Hera? I ended up taking it apart myself, it was slathered with GOBS of lithium grease inside, and wiping that crap away gave me a misfire rate of only 1 in 10 now ha. Not something I'd trust my safety on. Now Heretic? I love their single action Hydra, that baby locks up tighter than a drum. I'm gonna guess a Halo would too, and it's just a function of single action. But Heretics other offerings seem to just generally be tighter than their Microtech brethren. Don't know if their tolerances are closer owing to their need to prove themselves in a way, just something I've noticed across both product lines. I'll be super interested in how the new "no play" MT works out, and what they charge for it. If I feel like they are just on holiday with their stuff and operating solely on a long reputation for high end gear, I'd rather sell the bulk of my collection and buy a single Hawk or something like that. Something that is genuinely high quality (and yeah, reflects it in the price, but also delivers on that point. And with the great, hand on Customer Service to boot). Anyway, just one assholes opinions ha, I guess I just feel like the company owes me at least that much after how much I've spent with them. Appreciate the content man, keep up the good work

      @@Rollshambo oh and just on the clone piece specifically, I definitely am wary of the concept because I can see unscrupulous actors passing them off on the secondary to unsuspecting folks, and people getting ripped off as a result. Aside from being an actual crime, that is just wrong and bad for the community. But when I saw they had cloned this signature series that couldn't have had a ton of models made, I just had to compare it. And was really disappointed with the results. You're right, I didn't check the Rockwell hardness or run it through a torture test. Or check the metallurgy and make sure it was actual Magnacut (my guess? Mislabeled D2, of course). But just side by side, and working each individually? I do think most random people would get fooled by the clone, all things considered. And that is unacceptable.

      @Rollshambo  26 дней назад +1

      @@GoodModeSC I totally hear you on the misfires - I was going to suggest blowing it out with compressed air and applying a very light spray of rem oil (too much causes the issue, too little and you can have the same issue, all about balance I guess) - but it sounds like you got it figured out for the most part - I wont lie its bullshit that they wont honor the warranty based on where you live - thats not an oversight its just bad business. - my final thought on the clone piece is that for me it comes down to one thing, these clone/knockoff companies arent trying to build a good product, theyre trying to replicate a product close enough for people to be happy while giving them no recourse later if something goes wrong, also unsuspecting (or sometimes unscrupulous people) will try to pass these off as the real deal in sales/swaps online and because they appear legitimate those people are frequently successful, early on in my knife collecting days I was one of those who ended up getting a clone when I thought I was receiving an authentic microtech, it was an expensive lesson but one that immediately put clones in perspective for me... thanks for the convo and for the support!

      The steel(at least on mine was just soft enough to be a pain to sharpen)
      Failed on deployment and retraction about 3 out of every 10 times regardless of lubrication. I tried the tests they did in the videos and the lock failed as well..
      Felt like a brick(way too heavy) left it feeling cheap for my tastes
      Now all of this was about 3 years ago so who knows maybe their quality has changed..maybe not but that said if you want a GOOD cheap otf the one I recommend is the SOS OTF(exclusively at blade ops for $100) which is miles better than the ravencrest...
