The pattern of usage of racial slurs is a serious red flag. And what I cannot understand is how his racial slur re Chinese NBA fans passed muster and appeared to hardly see the light of day and how he was hired by ESPN his use of the slur notwithstanding, especially when in 2012 they fired one of their writers for using said slur in relation to Jeremy Lin.

Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka has made the Lakers the most dramatic and toxic franchise in the NBA. From hiring too many coaches to putting the blame onto different players/coaches, this franchise has gone downhill and would have gotten worse if they decided to draft Bronny in the first round.

I don’t understand what’s the big deal here. So many people speak indirectly as a posed to directly (which I vehemently detest).
If you live in America, it is my presumption that everyone at some point in their lives regardless of race has heard someone use a racial slur or has used a racial slur themselves.
If the question is-is JJ a racist? I personally don’t think so (don’t know him, never met him). Do I believe he’s used a racial slur in his life? Absolutely. Does that make him a racist? No.
And this is exactly why the Lakers are called a clown show. The coverage of them is 4 times more than most teams in America. Anything that anyone says about the Lakers gets national media coverage. Before anything is verified, fact-checked, or vetted it's talked about in the media and the court of public opinion overwhelmingly believes it. Maybe the Cowboys and Yankees are the only other teams that face the same scrutiny. Like how in the world could the Lakers "do their due diligence" in knowing something that JJ said 20 years ago?

While the Lakers are currently in a position to do something about this information (fire JJ), they shouldn't be blamed for not finding this sooner. ESPN, every team that he played for, even Lebron (or Klutch or whoever funded the podcast) are more to blame than the Lakers. And even then, how far back and how deep into personal relationships and email communications should an employer be expected to investigate for every potential hire? Yes, this affects the Lakers. Yes, they are in an awkward position now. But this is a reflection on JJ Redick alone.
