I got white smoke out the exhaust of a 782 I just bought. Mainly a little at start up, upon increasing throttle I get a puff and then it seeps out after shutting it down. I am taking heads off, resurfacing and putting new gaskets on this week. Should fix it. Everything else checks out. It did have a slightly whistle noise initially. I tightened the head bolts to 30 thinking I could get through the season on a quick fix. The whistle went away, but not the white smoke. Thanks for the vid.
I would also recommend changing the valve seals while you are at it, if they are bad I will smoke. The Kohler seals are expensive but you can use Sealed Power part number ST-2005 which are much cheaper and better quality. You will need 4.
@@CaptainBerz it will require removing the valve which requires a valve removal tool. If you're not comfortable doing that then just do the head gaskets and hope for the best. I also have a video showing how to resurface the heads which you while have to do or the new gaskets will leak.
@@xOLDS45512x That was my thoughts. Haha. Yes, saw that video. Great video. I actually have a video series I am doing on this. Have two videos out now, third coming out Sunday. I'll give you a shout out in the one I am filming now.
The noise is from a blown head gasket, the gasket started to delaminate into two pieces which acted as a whistle. The head was resurfaced and a new gasket installed and it's back to running like a champ.

@@xOLDS45512x Oh, ok. Can I do that by just taking the head off? I have some skills, but not all. Haha.
@@xOLDS45512x Disregard. Looks like I will need to take off the access panel to get to it. Appreciate the suggestion!

Yup that's my problem. Mine is leaking to. My 82 JD212 K301 is doing the same.
What's causing the noise?
1978mudtruck it's a blown head gasket.
Id like to know too.
