The world drivers standings do not make happy reading for Sir Lewis Hamilton at the moment. Last year at Imola, Max Verstappen made a daring move up the inside of turn one on Lewis Hamilton that really set the tone for the rest of the season. While it was the beginning of a season-long battle last year, Max’s pass of Lewis this year was a reminder to the seven time world champion of just how far he is off the pace this year. Let’s take a look at just what happened at Imola and why Lewis struggled so much.

It is possible that after Lewis’s competitive runs against his teammate Rosberg and Vettel’s stint in Ferrari that he became too complacent in the years that had gone by. Leading too many races with no competition in front could lead to those situations. That is why Russell is performing better, as he had to endure three grueling years of maximizing a Williams shitbox into a competitive one. Mercedes being midcedes this season is just chump change for Russell’s experience

And the fact that both McLaren and Mercedes were fucking the other teammate's race for Lewis to go in front just shows that Hamilton is not that good, in fact only Rosber tried to beat Hamilton and he did.. And is Rosberg a good driver? He is decent but not that much isn't he? There are at least 4 drivers better than Lewis on the grid now. i agree, Lewis had the luxury of driving one of the fastest cars on track for the last years, George had to fight with less performing material, so in a sense used to driving with difficulties and may be able to deal better with the challenges they suffer with their bad design, If you used to always having the best without any proper challenge it takes more time to adapt i suppose. Max however is a driver that seems to adapt to changes much better too past seasons, while his teammates struggled with the cars, now they have a new setup it seems that Max and Checo both know how to get the best out of the engine (if there s no fuelproblem) But it wouldnt surprise me if George keeps outperforming Lewis, even McLaren who has had similar problems and using the same powerunit seems to be doing better since the last 2 races, noone at Mclaren expected they would get on podium. Daniel was pleasantly surprised when he heard Lando made it to 3rd.

    • @LisaL.

I think the skill sets are different. Lewis is good at consistency while driving a well setup car. George is good at driving are poorly tuned car, but when it comes to consistency he lacks Lewis's practice. The same applies when now Lewis is driving an inconsistent car, so his strength are pretty much useless in these kind of situation, he just lacks the practices that George been getting previously at Williams. If the car continues like this, George will come out on top, just like Charles was much better than Seb at Ferrari.

A good car needs driver input for balance changes as much as a bad car. Someone who’s used to driving a bad car is no better or worse at “setting up cars” than someone who’s used to driving a good car. Some drivers simply thrive in none pressure situations as George is currently doing and some perform better in high pressure situations which Hamilton is more accustomed to. The differences between Hamilton and George has nothing to do with either drivers ability to set up cars. Engineers do the setup work; drivers just give feedback. So your point implying that George had to give more technical input while he was at a bad Williams unlike Hamilton who wouldn’t need to because he had a winning car is nonsense.

I think Hamilton can see that risk and would consider retiring after 2021 with GOAT status if he won the record breaking 8th title. But that 8th title vanished in the final lap of 2021. Leaving him no choice but had to put his godlike status on the line for that GOAT 8th title in 2022 by racing with a new teammate that could possibly beats and dethrone him... F1 2022

Hamilton will begin to consider retirement, as soon as he comes to terms with the fact that George Russell consistently outperformed him throughout the season; and I suspect that won't be until the end of the summer. Of course, the big caveat is whether Mercedes allows Russell to continue to best Hamilton. They could always declare the championship out of reach, at some point in season; and then start using Russell's car for R&D testing during the entire race weekend. If that happens, Russell's performances will be all over the place... marred with random me mechanical DNF's.

    • @Danker19991

Ok they may have screwed over Bottas like that, but I don’t think Mercedes would sabotage SO many points and shunt Russell just to soothe Hamilton’s ego. Other drivers used to get fucked over cuz Hamilton was still better, but this year that’s not the case, so no, I really really doubt Merc has the guts to do that because Russell is the only reason they are still 3rd in the Constructors championship this year.
I think Russell will continue to level hamilton even if he comes back, and if it stays like this he will beat him. And I think then you are right, he will start to consider retirement, which I don’t think he was at the start of the season.

There's one reason why Mercedes would shaft Russell, in favour of Hamilton: Woke corporate culture! Mercedes has long since embraced woke ideology. You can see it in the advertising, as well as with everything that they sponsor. Russell represents the lowest rung on the racist ladder of woke ideology: the Straight White Male. As long as Hamilton wants to be #1, all he has to do is bitch and moan like a little toddler; and Toto will come running like a lapdog.
I hate to say it, because I put my life on the line to fight racism and bigotry, but it's so sickeningly obvious. The only question that I have is: who will become the poster boy for woke ideology when Hamilton throws in the towel?

Lewis is simply too old and not that talented. driving a Mercedes for 7 years is nothing special, give him a weaker car and see how deplorable he is.

What people are saying and what I am seeing is two different thing in real time George Russell is willing to take unnecessary risk, and he is very lucky to get away with it, on the other hand Lewis Hamilton is not going to take the same kind of risk, he is older and he is wiser I have no problem in people liking George Russell or Max Verstappen because that is your preference, but stop telling lies about what we all are seeing when you see The FIA and Ross Brawn have to change the whole dynamics of the racing car because it was very hard for people to beat Lewis Hamilton on the track, the FIA and Ross Brawn excuse to justify them self they say that they wanted to see closer racing and right now Red Bull and Ferrari is dominating formula 1 I can never call that closer racing and the next thing is Lewis Hamilton age have nothing at all to do with it if he is telling Toto Wolff what is wrong with the car and Toto Wolff is getting annoyed and upset with him, even though George Russell is a younger driver it is George Russell that I hear complaining about he is feeling pain because of popoising, the Mercedes car is a lode of rubbish the untested sidepods is the number one problem to the car, if there was no crashed in the race then it would be impossible for George Russell to be so far up the field, and plus Toto Wolff and Mercedes is using race strategy that only help George Russell the Mercedes cars may look the same but the setup of the car is completely different

There is a reason why LH was happy with Bottas for all those years. He was there to make him look good! Russel shows LH is a mediocre driver and nothing special. He was lucky that in his years the other teams sucked.

Hamilton won his Championships by having BY FAR the fastest car on the track. In equal equipment his talent is sub-par to others in the sport.

So a driver who mIssed the WC in his rookie year by 1 point and won it in his second year is sub par talent. The remaining 6 WC, number of poles, number of finishes and whatever else F1 records he holds was because the car drove itself to victory. Sub par. Riiiiiiiight!

You should go and watch the GP2 race in Turkey in 2006. You will quickly change your mind, those are pretty much equal cars. Hamilton beat a 2 time world champion in his rookie year. Alonso was still in his prime not 37. People keep saying George is a rookie even with 3 full years under his belt. Hamilton is doing the bulk of the experimenting for Mercedes. Be objective people.

Jacques Villeneuve and Nico Rosberg point of view is valid because they are racing driver, but these men are not actually talking the truth about what is real happening, all I see is Mercedes and Toto Wolff is doing more to help George Russell when is come to race strategy Toto Wolff Mercedes do everything under the Sun to help George Russell and that is so unfair to see it have nothing at all to do with Lewis Hamilton driving badly as Jacques Villeneuve and Nico Rosberg are telling people lies that do not understand what is going on Lewis Hamilton is a expert driver with a lot of experience how much championship did Jacques Villeneuve and Nico Rosberg win between them for a good example take the race in Italy that was not a race the racing director did not allow DRS or drag reduction system until the race was almost finish and that just suit Max Vestappen how long is the FIA going to help Max Vestappen
In Italy we all see a unfair release of a racing car right in front of Lewis Hamilton and that compromise his whole race the Mercedes vehicle was just too slow to over take, that have nothing at all to do with Lewis Hamilton driving badly are poorly his car was just not good enough, Lewis Hamilton Mercedes was one of the worst car on the track it locked power and stability Lewis Hamilton did not drive badly are poorly and he have his own team Mercedes and Toto Wolff that is working against him because they put George Russell in front of Lewis Hamilton
If you allow George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to race without the interference of Toto Wolff helping George Russell you would see a big different Lewis Hamilton would completely take George Russell apart like what he did to Max Verstappen that the FIA had to fix the race to help Max Verstappen.
