    I used a flux paste, mixed it with Alcohol. It came out very smooth inside. Tacked foursides and went for it. You can weld seams the same way. No argon

    You’ve asked a very good question that most cup-walkers can’t answer better than the this welder. I’m very old school from when “freehand or finger-walking” tig ruled the day and cup-walking was very new. There is a visual sign of full penetration with tig SS but using the freehand technique. The visual sign is being able to see what we called the “fusion line or the penetration line” down the center of the SS root/1st pass. This is not seen cup-walking!

    • @colbywedgworth9676
      @colbywedgworth9676 4 месяца назад

      I see that cup walking also. You should see it regardless or your root is probably sucked back or non consumed edges.

    • @Smurf51766
      @Smurf51766 3 месяца назад

      Most definitely can do it walking the cup. Maybe not as easy but nothing in welding is impossible

    Well done! Yeah, out there you got to deal with all kinds of crap and never expect the material to be perfect. TIG welding is my favorite. It's so nice and clean without sparks and metal drops flying around like stick welding does.

    Is it possible to make back-bead at overhead position with no-gap condition? like that?

    • @X3MTIG
      @X3MTIG  Год назад +2

      Hey bud, thanks for your question . Good question btw.👍 Honestly I’ve never tried that technique on the pipe. Usually that technique is used when heat input is controlled and mostly on thin sheet plates. I don’t think that would work with no-gap joint as you need continuous heat input to form that root inside. Thanks once again, you give me something to think about 💪👍

  • @CP-jt6bw

    QC wouldn't let that happen. The heat input is too high the travel speeds too slow and the procedure calls for a gap.
    But I'll probably still give this a try next time I'm in a welding booth

    • @X3MTIG
      @X3MTIG  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment and support bud! On schedule, 10 pipes without a bevel is a little bit difficult as you won't get much penetration, especially on the overhead part, and I don't think that anyone will have such a challenge in the field. If you do! You can refuse that, and ask your fitters to fix that or give you a gap. You can do it in the rollout, but only for entertainment purposes. On schedule 5 it's a different story, you can perform welding without gap and bevel. As soon as I got my hands on schedule 5 I will make a video about it.

    • @InitiallyJB
      @InitiallyJB Год назад +1

      Too much pressure of argon was inside the pipe. Remember you have to let the purge bleed out as well. Even though you had 4 air holes to vent you need to adjust your argon flow rate to maybe 10-20lbs of pressure less and more flow on your tig rig. Then for the cap you can turn argon back up and suck back your root in that’s if you weld it all hot. If you let it cool then you can keep flow at the vent flow

      You have to understand that is not easy to record the welding process, especially if you consider the fact that this guy is a field welder. He records his videos while working on various job sites, unlike many other video creators who are recording their videos in their own shop and have all the time it takes to record, plus they have also lots of money from RUclips to provide them with the best possible equipment! This guys is just a normal welder who works and struggles just like the rest of us and gives his best to teach people!

      @@mikewelder7014so true this is real talk. He brings is as raw and real as possible, its real life scenarios and real life jobsites. He still lucky, some plants I worked at you can't even use your phone🤦🏿🤦🏿. Much yet to record a whole welding process. You also must have a good friend to record for you as well cause not everyone is willing to just record you at any given time.

    So with Sched 10, it's fairly normal for it to have a dark colouring on the cap. I've been doing some Sched 10 full purge for work. All my caps are a very dark purple. Never the nice shiny silver!

      Do you keep it purging through all the passes? I noticed it too with sched10...I also need to let it cool more... been doing the same at work, 4" sch10 stainless...316L though but no gap and full purge. Low pressure for ozone plant
