A little late to the party, but I have to comment that for any weld (test or otherwise) you shouldn't ever burn off your tag end. The tag end is the end with the material identification stamp. There are many places where your weld will be rejected and potentially cut out if the filler material can not be identified. Other than that, great video, and thank you for taking the time to make this video. You are an asset to our craft. 👍👍
the reason why i love this channel is because all of the camera angels you can get and all of the welding you can get it just gives a better understanding of what your doing other than having a bright light on a screen, you know?
Failed a test today, and this is what I needed for encouragement man thank you so much about the effort and tips, next week I will go to have another test!
Hi. I have reviewed very hundreds of videos on argon welding. And I found your explanation to be the best. You show me the smallest details that I really need. Thank you.
With your help today I pass my 6G test. I'v set it little bit to high and had problem on my left side and dicide to weld it with left hand and it was good. This is sucses for You and Jody. Thank you very much and sorry for my english.
This guy Hands down one of the best welders out there. I up my skill everytime you put a video out Awesome work bro All the way from Adelaide Australia
Your a really good teacher, I was taught by a bunch of old papermill hands , trial and error. If a willing student has your instruction and a good attitude you can surely get him/ her in the game. I sharpen tungsten as you do , any touch and I run to a rock! Enjoy listening fo your tutorials.
Keep em burning pimp.. ..ive worked in a big pipe Fab shop and the field for 23 yrs..your top notch and my kind of dude...great talent and technique.your descriptions and view angles are great.
I think your best trait is your ability to teach effectively bro of course your an awesome welder but yoir teachong ability is a gift in itself great job man instruction like this is needed
3 years late but awesome video mate. I landed a tig welding job about 18 months ago. Been a general fabricator for 20 years. This new job is all pipe. But trying to teach myself 6 g with purge and on carbon. Wish I'd seen this year's ago.
Easy to understand your hints. Im a welder with no school experience ive taken 15 tests but all of mine are stick with a couple mig from years ago. So my tech terminology is not the best so thanks for simplicity in explaining. Trying to get this tig welding in my list of abilities nice work man keep making vids . Subscribed on 1st vid
NOTHING BUT RESPECT!!! WELDERS NEED A GREAT TEACHER LIKE YOU EXPLAIN IT DOWN TO A SCIENCE!! By the way I use the free hand technique all the time in the field (backfeed) it's a go to technique .. Great Video man!
i just want to add this up, to help pass the bend test you have to follow the WPS. you don't want your weld to become so hot cause it will become brittle. so even if your weld pass the RT there's a tendency that your weld will fail in the Bend test if your weld exceed the maximum heat that the wps required you to follow. if you notice that your weld specimen is so hot then stop and let it cool. that's why you have the tempil stick, infrared thermometer etc... I'm not an expert, this is just based from my experienced and hopefully will help others to pass. great video. keep it up. cheers🤘

Were you walking the cup on root and hot-pass? As a company I worked for 3 yrs ago didn't allow walking the cup during the test. Your definitely one of the best YT instructors 90% of them are enthusiasts, not truly slilled/experienced welders. Bravo to you sir.
Absolutely top notch technique and video Sir! I especially liked the split screen inside/outside views, absolutely got to be one of the best TIG procedures videos ever! Good explanation of the specifications and easy going style is an important lesson, so easy to tense up and bust....been there too many times....inspector watching over my shoulder saying "You aren't gonna make it, are you?"...and that little bead of sweat runs down into your eye!!! Subscribed AND thumbs up! : )'
Taking my stainless test Monday! Man I run carbon steel all the time. But never stainless. Unfortunately I dont have the resources to practice stainless, gotta make sure my purge and my amps are on point.. wish me luck!. Will update soon. Stay tuned, I'll either be making 38 an hour plus 100 perdiem or a sad fab shop welder making 21.50.
just stumbled on to this video and I gotta say it’s the best one I’ve seen in a while, I also just noticed ya are 10 minutes away from my house🤷🏽♂️ just subscribed to the channel, keep them coming💪🏽
they have me running a carbon with 309 6g of course 2 inch purging like stainless and it took me 9x to get it but now they are wanting to move me to electrical bc of experience I'm very passionate about welding and the only thing I've really done was stick I'm doing the best I can but my last weld today was damn near perfect and idk if they even want to let me test it I went to school for welding and I'm really rusty given life in the way and all, these videos from weld tube have helped me a lot in the past I'm praying they can help me now. they don't want to fire me but the number we agreed on was me saying idk if I can pass and now they want to lower that even more I just got back from new Mexico so I could be with my family and I know what I can make on the road as an AP2 I/E.
Very humbling you got skills and don't mind passing them on, thirty two years ago my coworkers would ask me why would I teach others what I knew my answer was I want people around me to know as much as I did about the job which may it easy for everyone so if someone had to peel off for something else someone could step up and fill in. I remembered my boss called me the clutch man cause he could slip me in and we could keep on moving.
I know that feeling of Heartbreakers, it just reaches the apex of the bend while you are looking at your beautiful work and then pop and it splits. Heartbreakers. Been in the business for a few years, started at 20 years old, still in it but retired. Have my own shop and do lathe and milling, 71 years old now so you do the math. But do enough of the welding exactly like you did and you can weld anything. I've been on jobs requiring 316ss. Purged every weld x-rayed and we ran miles of it. You get so good you are walking the cup and in your mine you are walking on a beach with a beautiful girl. Just becomes second nature. Doing a 6g weld is a little tuff but stay focused and you will make it. By the way you are a very accomplished welder, I like your technique. You will go far, just don't burn your eyes out. You would be surprised at the different ways that will give you eyeburns. One question I have, you make it a point to keep your tungsten sharp. Looks like your grind is about 5 degrees? I ground mine at 5. Kept a 1/2" threaded nipple capped with a couple dozen 2% thoreated tungsten in it on the job. Keep up the great work.
Wasn't taught to put a Lan on tig pipe but I was taught to take the knife edge away to prevent suck back and make sure to get a good burn on each wall.
Good instruction and technique. I like to see different techniques. I find that the set up gaps tend to close up. My technique is very different but same result. I set up with a closed button then sink the root using 1.6 wire with amps about 60. Well done and good instruction.
I Go to Tulsa Welding School in Houston and im about to graduate in February and ive always wanted to get a job at cb&i this video should be helpful Thankyou 👍👍
Great tutorial man and thanks for being honest. I'm Practising how to do this at work and yeah I didn't do a welding course so gonna be hard but I'll keep at it
I should have looked this up last night. I couldn't get my purge and the knocked it out of the pipe. I was very disappointed with my amatuer mistakes. Your video is great even for old school cats that may have been off their torch for awhile and maybe misplaced a few of these key points. Good job on your video and thank you!!!!
The Heartbreaker Indeed. I've had that experience as well, fortunately only twice myself. One was a Nuclear Rejection but I had an eye infection so they gave me a retest the following week because I was testing with an eye patch that threw off my depth perception.
