Great vid! Anyone else notice the fish rise in the bottom right background at 10:30 right before he says 'fish wont be rising due to the water conditions' haha
best fly fisher by far, I use your flies and catch when others don't. your life jacket elk hair wont be beaten ever. Thank you for your help and advice.
So you are fishing a Dry/Dropper with high sticking? Very nice video. Thank you. Another great fly is a humpy. Rides high in fast water, visible to angler and easy to tie.
John... as a more or less student... would you recommend double drop shot nymph rig with split on bottom in that size stream. I would love to hear or see your thoughts on that. Have many streams like that here in P.A, but lot of fishing pressure though. Am a little discouraged I had an OK season. Huge % drop from last season as a spin reel fisherman new to fly fishing
I use european nymphing methods very often, but I annoyed by dropper twisted and tangled around main line after some time. Is there a way to reduce twisting?
Great video! The streams we fish here in the states where I live are in the Driftless Area in the midwest. A lot of our streams are narrower than this one- you can jump across quite a few of them in the right spot. Some of them are a tunnel of brush and grass and can be quite difficult to roll cast in, so we often slingshot our flies up into the spots where the fish are. What sort of rig (rod/reel/line) combo are you using here? I use a 7'9" 3wt rod mostly unless I am on bigger water, then I switch up to a 9 foot rod with the same reel.
You're honestly better off fishing dries. BWO and stimulators work fine to prospect, other than that, go with whatever's hatching. I've always believed just a simple double pheasant tail rig under an indicator will do you good anywhere. Don't forget the hares ears as well! Czech nymphing works just as well as a double nymph setup in the fall, spring, and summer. Yeah, not winter. Winter fly fishing grinds my gears.
It was a little funny when he was talking about how the fish prob wouldnt rise much and there was a fish jumping right behind him. Haha...good tutorial though.
Hi Jonathan, love your youtube videos and also your new DVD... Was curious as I noticed you've paired your 389LL with a Denielsson Midge (78 grams) - How does that balance for you? I have a 389LL and need a reel with a bit more weight to get a nice balance.
jose gulías trigás You know , most fly fishermen have some manners......... if you could only watch til "minute 3:50" then just move on , no need to be rude. I'd bet all my gear that this guy could out fish you on your best day.
Brad Hundley Sorry Brad. My intention wasn't be rude, I like Jonathan's videos. I almost only fish duo or nymph so I saw some good spots that he left behind without fish but maybe he did that for the camera. Don't bet your tackle, sure he is better than me, I'm learning every day and I have not videos with masterclass or lessons...
Small stream fishing is fun, colored water or not.Dry flies will still work in muddy water,as he found out.I saw a lot more "pockets " he could have ,though, while he worked the water. Good video.
Basically quite good but needed some serious editing. We need a lot more close ups of the tackle and the flies, and these can all be shot afterwards and edited in. There are too many jump-cuts which can be avoided with a bit of care. I agree with the comment about sorting out the mike problems. 7 out of 10.
WOW! Love the tips and love the spot ...... the sound of water is mesmerizing ...

I admire all of your video Jon. What kind of reel for you Euro/deep nymph setup in the video. It looks nice and slim and simple.

You can try shortening your dropper line also make sure your knot points out from leader/tippet.
We’re is Jonathan?

Nice water. Little larger than the small streams that I fish that are 2 meters wide or less.

what sage rod is that?
It's the Sage ZXL. It's a dry fly rod..

jose gulías trigás Yes i have the ZXL also 3wt 8'6 model. They are great rods.
Ryan Bradfield I have it too in the same size and line. I like it for dries but no for nymph. It's very soft for me.
