I love you orvis guide to fly fishing, you guys have helped me so much as beginning fly angler
After a few months casting my spinning rod to focus on learning the fish first, I'm back to casting my fly rod and caught my first trout this weekend on a local creek. Totally different game, totally awesome, and I'm dying for that next fish on the fly rod 😊
Congratulations!
this is the best fly fishing content out there. always watch your stuff, amazing information from an expert fly fisherman
always appreciate Orvis and Tom.
Tom's info is gold.
what a great way to start the weekend
As usual, excellent video . Thank you
What I needed... Very well explained 🎉
Thanks Ozark Brewing for sponsorship
What's the difference between a good nymph fisherman and a great nymph fisherman? One split shot. I primarily fish smaller streams these days and the dry dropper is very effective on these waters. very well done video.
I've been liking the Oros indicators lately. Adjustable and good float like the Airlock ones, but its balanced on the line as opposed to being weighted off-center from the leader. Seems to get tangled less. Only drawback is that if you're trying to position it on a thin bit of leader or tippet, it can be tricky to twist it down tight enough to hold without it grabbing the line and twisting it a bit.
what river is that opening scene? Beautiful
Any info on the putty style eco-float stuff?
Interesting. Is it possible to tie a dropper the same you show how to tye a plastic bobber so you can adjust lenght ?
You mentioned the legality of dry-dropper-dropper. Anyone know where I can find info on where running 3 flies is legal/illegal?
I've been a dry fly puritan my whole fly-fishing career, and want to expand my horizons. I feel a ton more prepared, watching this video.
I was fishing a san juan worm and it was spinning so much it wrapped the tippet into itself does anyone have suggestions. A spin cast fisherman told me to add a swivel. I just decided to use different flies but i know the san juan is effective where i fish and i want to use it with a fly rod so so fly fishermen use swivels? Or how do i solve this issue?
yes, we do use micro swivels to help with that issue
HI Tom. do you recommend floating line or sinking line when doing a dry dropper rig? OR a sinking tip line. lets say for a chernobyl and a nymph for example
Really the only thing you should be using sinktips for is streamers and maybe wet flies.
34:31 look at that stare
I tend to avoid dry droppers as I get more tangles than anything. It works it just frustrates the heck out of me.
Not trying to be rude or anything, but if you're getting many tangles it is probably due to your casting. If you're just getting started in fly fishing, I always recommend my friends don't fish a dropper until their casting becomes better.
Oros indicators have made the rest obsolete
Why not euro nymph vs this ?
Orvis has lost my business since they closed the tackle section in their store in bath and only sold clothes....sad and pointless shop...
Reasonable. You’ve gotta find some tackle and they can’t provide it
Oh no! What will they ever do?
I honestly didn’t even know they actually sold fly fishing gear bc my local store only sold clothes when I went then I found there RUclips and stuff lmao just another joke corporation trying to taking blue collar money
35 years of fishing has taught me to adapt since the supply will come and go. My best friend is a fly tying nerd. He has glass cases he displays of flies he has tied. Thousands of flies…. His mistakes he calls junk has caught me many fish. My eyes have changed so much through the years. I have patience and attention to detail I didn’t where I was young but my eyes. Maybe I could tie flies with one of those big, lighted magnifying lenses on an arm in place😂. I think I would be better at tying flies than catching fish. I get the stupid ones🤣
