Putting the stove above/on the cooking vessel to create effectively an oven is very ingenious; I have never seen that before. I do not own the mess tin you are showing here, but I do have the thick aluminium British ones (like you have used in previous videos - two rectangular pots which sorta nest together). I don't own a Firebox stove, but I still might experiment with this kind of thing. Also, I haven't made pizza dough from scratch since intermediate school, but I still have the recipe so I might dig that out too. Thank you for a superb inspirational video!
Thanks Phillip, what a great comment. I at first pulled out those British Army Mess tins, but the firebox didn't fit snug over them, so I ordered a small cheap mess tin that would fit underneath. The results were excellent. Leave it with me, I am determined to use the Mess tins that you have and am working on a way to get even more pizza! I think the British Army Mess tins even though so simple are so good for some creative cooking.I have to admit it was after cooking that I relised that I had never made pizza before and that this was the first time. I have cooked many but not made from scratch, I hope you enjoy it if you manage to do it, Cheers Chris
Thanks for that, the firebox is fantastic and has many possibilites and I like to show people you can eat almost anything you like, I know there are other ways and accessories but not everyone has them and also you learn quite a bit from trying things. For example from this cook I reckon if i had another grill inside the messtin same size but with longer legs I could probably cook two pizzas at the same time, just got to figure it out, and have fun in doing so, I like little oven cooking you see and also the fact that the top of the stove was still free to cook something else at the same time. Thanks for commenting on the two videos and sharing them, it's really appreciated, cheers Chris
Clever idea, putting the whole Firebox on top of the mess tin. Pizza was one of the first things I made on the Firebox, but I made it in 10" skillet with the cowboy plate for a lid. I did use a steamer insert as the trivet, and it worked great. But, I had to keep taking coals from the stove to put on top of the lid.
Thanks Latigo, I had heard a Skillet will work, in fact it sonds like a good way to do it too, I suppose the counter to mine not having to add coals is that you probably made a bigger pizza. My overall cook time I think was 40 minutes for the three, which was good in itself to pace out my eating, otherwise I would of devoured it quicker ha ha. Nice to hear your way of doing it, and I think i will try that too, cheers Chris
Thanks a lot, I must admit doing something like this compared with a normal every day cook was so much more fun, I think I will experiment a lot more now. What made you ,ove to Peru and whats it like there? Cheers Chris
That's great, hope you have some luck with it, pre baking the base a bit is something I didn't think of and could work really well, I have to say that these were really really nice, cheers for watching and commenting, Chris
Thanks Ian, 100% this is getting done again, they were actually so so nice, the saving grace for me was that they were quite small, if it were a big pizza I would of devoured it no problem ha ha. Thanks for checking this out, cheers Chris

Hey there, thanks again, I love the firebox, probably my fav outdoor cooking item, I love the community too, thanks for subscribing, watching and commenting, cheers Chris
Great job with this! Firebox Stove is my go to stove and you did a great job with the mini pizzas. I'm debating on doing pizza on a hike later this year and am considering using English Muffins so I was really impressed that you made the dough from scratch. Thanks for bringing us along and sharing!
Hi mate, the making of the base is easy, it's just giving it the two hours to prove, you can make it all in a plastic bag for ease when out on a hike/camp, but english muffins do sound good to ha ha, good luck with what you do, cheers Chris
@@northernembersoutdoors1045 100%, brother! Yeah, we've made a lot of homemade pizza dough over the years, and I might do it again on a camping trip. Right now, I'm thinking more backpacking meals & like drawing inspirations from friends like yourself for future outings. I appreciate you, brother!
Thank you very much. I met up with a friend for a camp, he did dinner first night and cooked a risooto from scratch, my turn the next night I heated up a stew that I had already cooked ha ha, no effort, i hear you, that said I like to try different things, once done i work on a more simple way, cheers for watching, Chris
@@northernembersoutdoors1045 I challenge myself sometimes at home using camping gear like this mess kit just to see if I can, but just in case it fails there’s the fridge with other stuff, I’m not going hungry. I give you lots of credit for doing it successfully though.
Thanks Ben, I honestly cant tell you how nice they were, my wife wants me to make her some, will do with different toppings. Hope you are well, cheers Chris.
Hello and thanks, I picked it up from amazon, I typed up mess tins and then went through a few looking for a smaller size than the standard British ones so that the fire box would fit over. Very handy
Hi, I am not too sure, I bought it becasue the firebox didn't fit over my normal messtins and I thought it would be handy, I didn't reliase that it came with the grill, which actually came in handy.
