    As a Brit who has lived in Canada since 2006 and is now in my mid 20s, it’s not great here either. Biggest difference is the job market is WAY more competitive it’s almost impossible to get reasonable jobs

    Anyone wishing to move to Canada would most likely get a job, but the cost of living is dreadful. And oh, remember to bring a tent.

    Why wouldn’t Canada do better than anyone. 35 million people in the 2nd largest country in the world, so much resources for so few people. What’s surprising is that it’s not more wealthy.

      It's not doing better because of the climate. Northern America is like Russia in temperature. UK is a mouldy rock. US sunbelt and Australia have great weather so the upper middle class go there.
      Also size attracts growth. The bigger you are the more you grow without even having to find a niche.
      Also 90% of the S&P is intangible wealth in large caps. All other countries lack a tech sector like the US. The biggest we have in Canada is Shopify which replaced Blackberry before it which replaced Nortel before it.

    How does "satisfaction with life index" work that countries with higher SWL values are below those with lower SWL in the ranking?
    Austria and Iceland with 260 are 3 and 4 places, but The Bahamas with 266 are placed 5, and Bhutan with 253 is below the US with 246?

    In most cases economies with vast natural resources will outperform service-based ones like the UK (whose situation is further worsened by its meticulous destruction of industry and manufacturing).

    Fracking is such a nimby subject in the UK, no hope of that happening. Just like HS2, the subject brings the nimby brigade out of the woodwork. Nothing will ever happen in the UK with them around.

    GDP is nonsense. Take Ireland as a perfect example. Half of the GDP belongs to 6 people.

    • @wafercrackerjack880
      @wafercrackerjack880 3 месяца назад +3

      And yet you use GDP to describe developing countries. It's useful when describing other countries you deem inferior, but it's useless when you are performing relatively poorly.
      And to add how wrong you are, even with Ireland's GDP a big illusion, Ireland is still richer in the sense that people there in general are earning more. Ireland might not have as much wealth because the UK suppressed them for so long, they are catching up.
      The UK is poor, but you can continue coping.

    • @SK-yb7bx
      @SK-yb7bx 3 месяца назад

      @@wafercrackerjack880 GDP is still a poor way to measure wealth, when one person has more wealth than the lower 50% of people in the country in Republic of Ireland. Ireland has a much higher standard of living than English, but that's not saying much. There is plenty of money about in Ireland, the problem like with pretty much everywhere, a top few own half the wealth and are living off of the productive. Look up Gary Stevenson.

    Canada is outperforming the UK in every way - housing, healthcare, jobs - even when accounting for the record migration into Canada. But contrary to the Telegraph - fracking is a small part of the economy and taxes haven't been lowered in any meaningful way under the Liberals. Canada is a natural resource economy which are still demanded while the UK is a financial laundromat that shot itself in the foot with Brexit.

      It really isn’t and who caused that? It goes all the way back to devolution which in turn created new parties who only have the intentions of driving separation using anything and everything to push for independence.
      It also doesn’t help that the media only now push depressions, miserable content. They class their news as educational and informative but fail to tell the truth and fail to provide anything positive.
      In the last few decades the news has become more and more agenda specific to which people believe and fall for.
      If you compare the news now to what it was 20 years ago it is completely different.
      The UK population has now turned into a whinging nation due to politics and the news. Everyone is a victim these days and if it’s not miserable it’s not news.
