This is exactly what the sewing community needed, a realistic look at a sewing space. It doea not happen like magic, have to do a little bit at a time due to being completely overwhelmed. People who show a fancy room that looks like a sewing shop is not realistic. Many of us do not have the reaources to pay a professional organizer. I know this is encouragement for all us folks who want a proper space to sew and create. God Bless all. Thank you for sharing ur space. It is quite lovely .❤❤❤

Super cute. For labeling my bins in my craft room I just added a large number on each one. Then I keep a master list of what is in 1, 2, 3 etc. When I need something I just glance through my list to get the number. It is working very well for me, much better than before when I had random words all over my bins and was constantly changing labels as I used things up and got new things. Now I just change it in my computer and print out a new master list.

What a fantastic sewing room! It's big and has a lot of storage space. Love all those vintage sewing machines, you know that the turquoise and white one with all that gorgeous chrome is my favorite! Super smart storage idea with the pegboards, keeps everything organized and visible. My mom used to leave her machines out if she was working on a project and just covered the entire machine with a tea towel to keep dust away. I've adopted that idea so I don't have to keep unpacking and packing up my machines, but yours stow away quickly and easily. Great video, thank you for sharing!

Your old machines are impressive. Keep them well maintained as the newer computerized machines may have the stitches but don't have the strength. I have a very expensive 2023 Janome that will not outlast my 1995 Elna, which is a workhorse. One piece of advice: a long cutting table-mine is approx. 6,5 x 4 feet-could change your life (and save your back!). And what is that red dress in the closet??!! Is it one of your projects, and can we see it?

Thanks for the tour. That bobbin holder in the one sewing machine is very clever. If you don't have one already, get a little pan for pouring the miscellaneous buttons into, it makes it easy to sort through, find the button you need and replace the buttons in the jar. That's what I do for my nuts & bolts.

SewRena, I love your sewing room!! And I wanted to share something I’m incorporating not only in my sewing area, but in the rest of my home. Perhaps others have shared something similar? I am positively enamored with wheels. Especially since my mother shared with me that my father had added wheels under a favorite chest of drawers he had built. It makes it so easy to move. He recessed the wheels up inside the skirting around the chest of drawers. You can barely even notice they are there. I unashamedly bought a desk/table top and 4 hairpin legs from ikea. I sew on it now. Years ago I bought 2 two drawer file cabinets, and topped them with a luan door I finished with polyurethane. There were wheeled frames available for these file cabinets which made it easier to take apart and move around. Perhaps these ideas might be something you might be able to use. 😊Happy sewing!!

What a wonderful space. Thank you so much for sharing it with us all. My only *real* suggestion is to hang the 'Play' button lower on the wall so the camera can more easily pick it up in the background of your shots.
_Scrap Fabric Suggestion_ - Meditation pillows. I found the pattern by zooming around the interwebs, but basically they are two circled joined by a rectangle that's long enough to have regular pleats in them, and then a small rectangle for the handle (which hides the overlapping slit opening at the side). I use mine to store the scraps. One is for larger cabbage scraps. One is for the tiny coleslaw. Also makes great gifts for people. Or donated to the local women's shelter...
Is there room under your cutting table for the cabbage scrap bin? I've worked in kitchens, so my life is all about saving steps... Maybe have a portable vintage crock that can move from machine to machine to store the thread and seam scraps?
I'd be tempted to wait a little longer to figure out the storage solutions for the office area. You have some good ideas, but you feel like you're in the stage of where you're figuring out what _exactly_ you need. It's OK to let it sit a little longer. Maybe you could include a comfy chair to curl up in and storage for mending (with an appropriate light)?
That brocade fabric in your closet is Ah-maze-ing. And there's enough of it for an entire project, plus the accessories. Full length pencil skirt dress/gown, with a wrap, with a head turban... dunno, just spit-balling. Something to wear out to the theatre...
Love your ironing board placement. I have no space, so my Featherweight lived on top of a 6-drawer Ikea metal drawer unit (the drawers hold the presser feet, the drafting supplies, ribbon, tailors tape, lace and embroidery supplies). I swapped out the wheels for 360 so I can roll it out of the way when it's not in use. Beside the sofa is my Granny's Martha Washington cabinet, on top of which is the ironing station. That way I can sit on the sofa and iron without having to get up and walk across the room... Also love that your hams match the wallpaper.
I have a 1915 hand-crank Singer 99K and a 1949 Singer Featherweight. They're both named after their previous owners - just attempting to keep the history intact. I've used a fountain pen (ball-point bleeds over time) to write out the history of each machine in the front of the manual page for future owners.

@@Julia_USMidwest Because, when you're 70 yrs old and it's time to pass these ladies on to their next owner - are you really going to remember all that prior owner detail; probably not...
For active sewing I went for a U-shape design. Machine in front of me, ironing to my right, flat surface to my left (ie, the rest of the sofa). Because if things aren't handy, the last thing I'm gonna do is walk across the room...

My sister Tina made a pegboard spool for my mom. She got the pegboards and wooden dowels to fit in the holds of the pegboard and she cashed them each thread run somewhere longer somewhere shorter. And Mom could just go to the wall and pick anything up I would love to have room to do that.

Thank you so much! The first decade I was into as a child was the 70’s and I wanted to honor both the cool machines that make my content possible and the child in me.

I love your sewing space! Me I would knock out the walls and build an open space for fabric bolts! and space for you creations to display. Beautiful space. I would get more accomplished if I had your space. You can make a dress form using duct tape and an old t-shirt.

May I advise …lol? Invest in a really good chair to support your back , neck, and legs to use for your sewing.. I know you’re young but it will prevent neck and back injuries so you can sew comfortably and happily .❤ I didn’t and after years of pain I can start to sew again due to my made to my specifications chair! Thank you for all you share and 😘

Girl, those of us who sew know the reality of the mess in a sewing/craft room. You can't put everything away mid-project.

OMG your singer or another brand sewing machine that looks like your sewing machine your desk was placed in front of the compacter at my Apt complex. I have seen a couple mid century sewing machines on tables but too heavy. I found a 2017 singer sewing. Thank you for sharing your sewing projects and skill.
