Another Birch bed, huh? I remember Birch sponsored another video for you few years ago - in fact your promo was why I ordered a Birch mattress. it is heavy and misshapen, bit uncomfortable, but the frame is very neat. I would not purchase another Birch mattress. I would purchase the frame again. Congrats on your move and finding the perfect sewing room 😂
....babe...I once moved twice in under a year and my hair started falling out. How are you alive right now? Also, both you and your man have fabulous hobbies, 10/10.
I have a small, narrow open floor plan house - kitchen, living room and a dining room table sized table all in the same space. We don't eat at the table anymore with just one and sometimes 2 in the house. I turned the table into my main crafting space. It's got a large flat surface, the entertainment accessories, food and is on the same floor as a bathroom. It's my house, why not make it work best for me.
I do think the adage give anything that really needs to get done to a busy person is so true. You work a demanding job fulltime - have a hubby and little one along with puppers - move a ridiculous amount of time (moving is third for stress under losing a loved one and divorce - so moving six times in a short time would be very wearing on your body and mental state) and there you are getting through projects and thinking about murals. It's nothing short of amazing. I think your sewing spaces are lovely and efficient and very you 😊
My sewing space is also in our living room. I decided i didnt need to hide my hobbies. I hope you rest and take time to recover from the moving insanity of the last few years. ❤
My heart went out to you whenever you mentioned a move in a post and I had to pause like "wait... AGAIN??" Crossing fingers that things have calmed down for you, and I'm so happy that you've had the time and energy to build yourself such a lovely sewing space!
I sew in the living room. It’s just me in a small house, so the big room with a sofa and a big TV seemed just right. Your room is so pretty though! I need to up my decor game.
My living room is way less elegant but the first thing people see when they walk in is our living room with a folding table as our coffee table and a giant wall of board games. We also do a lot of miniature painting on the table for those games. Our place is a 3 bed 2 bath condo so when we had parties we were always switching our coffee table with the folding table, after one party we just said w.e. it lives here now. It's just too convenientXD We'll upgrade eventually but for now it's cheap and extremely functional. Normalize interior design that makes sense for your home, not someone else's aesthetic!
I think there are some coffee tables that convert into a dinning room table. They are cool but a bit expensive. I wonder if I will feel like I need one, but right now I have a dinning room table in my living room with three computers on it and a dinning room table in my dinning room for playing board games. My main living space is all about everyone living in the house playing board games or video games. I use to image throwing board game parties and needing two tables, but it hasn't happened yet and may never.
Well, welcome to my hometown. It's exciting having a " Famous youtuber" right here. Have been following you all over. Enjoy all the joys we have to offer here, and I think food here is fabulous. Enjoy our pizza! And even though undoubtedly I'll never run into you, I hope you do make this your forever home. I love the idea of you making your crafting area your focal point, as an avid crafter myself, it makes total sense. Again welcome and I hope we measure up. ❤
I'm in the middle of reorganizing fabric and making our formal dining room my sewing room and maybe my office as well. I've decided to move our dining table to our living room. The living room is huge and just feels like a giant multi door corridor. I own a lot of art work and I also paint in large scale so this space is perfect for a gallery space + dining room (and fireplace with club chairs). Our "living room" is the den area towards the back of the house - good enough. I think it's always wise to make use of any space to how it suits you regardless of the original intent. All of this and we're planning on moving next year. Gotta enjoy your space and refine your process though : )
Wow. I love how you have everything set up. Mostly, I love what you said about using your house to live you best life with your family's hobbies. That resonated. Thank you for sharing.
I am so shocked that a professional like yourself had to move around sooo much to find a suitable position to fit your needs! i'm happy for you guys!! and OMG that HUGE ship behind you!!
I live alone, my momma and grandma are in a better place. My sewing room is in what would be the family room of my doublewide Mobile home. My second bedroom is a guest room for family or friends. When guests come they can be in the living room and I can continue my sewing. Especially since my family always brings me alterations or other sewing!
My sewing room is in my living room too. I love it. When I retired, I didn't think I'd be sewing very often, and I really don't. But I want it all set up and ready to go. Just today, a neighbor asked me to hem a skirt. 😊
I love the idea of putting your passions and interests front and center in your home! I think we all get set into the idea that we have to have rooms that are what they are "meant for," like everyone who has a formal dining room that only uses it for holidays (great if that's your thing, but if not....use it for whatever you want!), or a spare bedroom that has a bed, even if you're not the type to have guests stay over. Your style is always terrific, and I hope you're able to stay in this space as long as you'd like, after all the moving.
You are not alone! We use the living room on our main floor as a bedroom and our dining room for my office! Is it unconventional? Absolutely! However it provides the most comfortable set up for everyday living? It is a joy!!!
I have friend who turned his living room into his bedroom and his bedroom into his magical apothecary. When he has gusts we pile into he's bedroom and its a delight.
Big yes on loving Kallaxes (despite their less-than-sturdy nature)! Since the middle of your sewing table isn't visible, one could probably get away with building a framework in there if they wanted a heavy top. I Am Not A Carpenter, Don't Quote Me, but I imagine something like braced frames/legs would work
I’m originally from Chicago. We now live in Texas. When I go back to visit family and friends I try to get to different fabric stores. There is a place north of the city that my mother used to take us to call Vogue Fabric. Please check it out. They moved into a wear house and have a great selection of fabrics. Their trims and buttons is half of what is was in the old space. But still some impressive inventory. I bought several quilt backings and I was able to fit them in my luggage coming back to Texas. If I make a bigger purchase I just mail it to Texas. I won’t tell you how many packages I have mailed to my self cause I love garage sale also. Your new space is dreamy. Thanks for the tour.
i think your home should be how you live, no need for empty rooms to look good just for company, embrace who you are, as should your friends do also....no empty spaces to heat and cool.
4 years ago I finally decided to give myself my dream sewing space...even though it would basically make my "entertaining guests" space disappear. . . And honestly, it was the best decision ever. My friends and family totally understood how happy using the space for sewing made me and they don't need me to entertain them (something I worried they wanted). Fully embracing being myself and making sewing easier by making it accessible really improved my life. I am glad embracing your families hobbies has also made yall happy as well
my husband and I do our hobbies int the same-ish space as well and I wouldn't have it any other way! but mostly b/c we have a one bedroom apartment :D Huis guitar set up is in the kitchen and my sewing space is in the living room like, 10 feet away through a door way. Of course, my sewing space is also my work desk, but we make it work!
Nice set up and to be honest, I am seriously envious. My machines alternate between being on the dining table and being tucked under the table. I live with my adult sons and can't take over their apartment. It's amazing what we can come up with when having limits.
Have you considered painting a mural about Hippocrates or the Hippocrates Oath? That might make a very interesting guest bathroom wall. I, personally, wish I had thought of the Scrabble themed bathroom that Penn of Penn and Teller have. He also has a real skeleton in his living room and I am not sure how he managed that. But, as a Doctor I thought you might find his decor inspiring.
Is that the Titanic on the mantle? And did your husband paint it? It's very well done. Lovely space... fingers crossed you don't have to move again anytime soon.
Ok, we live in an 100 sqm2 apartment and my sewing room is in the living room. Our dining room is my cutting table. Most of my storage is reused ikea stuff.
Beautiful new space. Love how you're all able to play together while working on different things. For your costume storage might I suggest archival textile boxes? They come in long and narrow sizes and you could store the dresses and accessories with minimal folds. Pad out the folds with acid free tissue and that will help even more. They come in various sizes so you could buy ones that fit 2 to a shelf like you have the bins.
Congrats on the final move for a while, we hope!!! This is a fabulous space and my wife and I will definitely take some inspiration from your ideas as we combine our households and sewing supplies!
You’re so inspiring! How do you have the energy to continue working 55hrs/week and continue working on multiple projects at a time and even FILM THEM while still spending time with your family? Personally I live alone and work 40-45 hours and spend 5-10 hours on the weekends doing community responsibilities, and when I have free time I feel so completely worn out that I struggle even getting out of bed, I don’t have any spoons left to actually do the things that bring me joy, like sewing or seeing friends. How do you do it all? Is it just that all of the things you do you love so they give you energy rather than drain it?
Wow thats a lot of moving 😱. Your new house looks lovely though so i guess it was worth it 😅. I vote for a madame de pompadour mural! Also congrats on your new puppy - I'm green with envy! You make such beautiful things i hope you'll be happy in your new sewing room.
Congratulations on the beautiful new space! So smart to put the things you love into your main living area. And YES to the bin system! I worked my way around to it about 5 years ago when (a) my hanging racks were encroaching on my work space, and (b) a window leak forced me to deal immediately with the basement organization I had been putting off. Wishing you many years of joy (and not moving!) in your new home!
This was super helpful and inspirational! Of course since we don't have nearly enough space we'll probably have a much smaller cutting table...but the ikea tip was great!
I just made my formal dining room into an embroidery room. I also have a sewing room upstairs and a scrapbooking room upstairs, but I’ve been spending the majority of my time and my formal dining room. I’ve lived in my house for 24 years and we’ve eaten in the formal dining room, six times a waste of space
💖👑👑💖Sewstine l love love love the set up of your home and how you are useing the space which works for your family like l messaged berfore its just brilliant. 💖
Oof, I've done 4 moves since finishing grad school in 2018 (including a trans-Atlantic round trip), and I am so over moving (though there is a decent chance that I will be moving again in 2026, because my current job is a postdoc position). I sincerely hope for you that you are able to settle down in Chicago and not have to worry about moving for many, many years to come.
I am not a sewer but I have watched your channel for at least a year. I loved this tour and as a St. Louis native, I can tell you that our basements are a God send but are rare in other cities. Whether they can be walk out or in ground in St. Louis depends on ground topography and I have been told that is also why many cities rarely have our basements. I like the bit on your lace embroidery. I was wondering if you have tried to replicate the Honiton (sp?) lace loved by Queen Victoria?
Christine, welcome to Illinois! I live near Springfield, the state capital, and you were actually nearer in St. Louis, but at least you are back in the midwest! I sincerely hope you can stay put for as long as you wish!
I vote for a whole new painting. New space. New to you wall painting? That space is gorgeous. And I send up my prayers to the Algorithmic Gods, both the Old and the AI, that you never have to move again. With any amount of luck this is your age in place home. My only suggestion would be to add a comfy chair to a corner with an appropriate light and footstool. It can pull double duty at story time. Somehow I don't think you have the time for a kitchen garden but, just to put a bug in your ear, there are apparently a growing number of cities that have landscapers who specialize in setting up and maintaining your very own Victory Patch. I type as a balcony veg patch gardener for the past 20 or so years. There's something about stepping outside and picking dinner... Anyways, just a suggestion. You've gone leaps and bounds already getting the sewing studio set-up... enjoy the process of settling into your home. Cheers. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Been watching you for awhile and all your moves. I love the sewing room and envy the space you have. Now let’s see the rest of the house when you’re settled in .
I think your sewing needs a big beautiful mirror? The fireplace is beautiful backdrop to the room and gives some grandeur. Love your new space. Very lucky lady.
Congratulations on your new home and sewing studio. I love how you have set it up especially the table with the storage. Definitely need The Swing or Madame De Pompadour for a little colour.
Congrats in your new home! Hope you won't be moving again anytime soon.:-) Lovely space! Georgina almost made me cry, I can't believe cuties like puppies and raccoons indeed exist. ❤
This is great! as a fellow gaming/sewing household who uses the living room as our space, I'd love to see how your husbands gaming setup ends up fitting in.
Great video!! Sorry you have to move so much! Hope this is the place you stay for a while!! I think you should do the Swing mural again! That was very nice!
Thank you for comparing the dress forms ^^. I've been debating about the Bootstrap form and may still try it out one day. Also for the embroidery software and fabric tips. For the trashcan, if the sound gets to you, I wonder if killmat would help deaden the noise it makes
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT WONDERFUL BED??!!! that headboard is the most beautiful I have seen, like an art nouveau piece of art..did you ever watch that 90's movie Casper the friendly ghost? the house in the movie is in an art nouveau style, that bed reminds me of the movie.
how much would you charge for a fan like that? I would LOVE one....I have to keep a fan in my purse menopause....which means fan to cool oneself ....lol
Wouldn't you be able to do hooks to hang your historical costumes? I moved into a home built in 1911 that has been luckily untouched. 2 of the 5 ( yes five!) bedrooms have built in wardrobes. It was a bit awkward for our modern clothes because they are too narrow for modern coat hangers, but all of them are covered in coat hooks on the inside
Who is the girl in black that helps you to unpack the mattress? Your sister? Glad to see that you have some help during the process of moving into a new place! It is quite draining even when everything goes as planned.

I just want to borrow a tiny bit of her capacity for life, just to see what it's like 😂
This.
@@uschilou Yes. This. If I could borrow the Woman's energy for just 24 hours...

My favorite part is the embroidery machines in the laundry room. I love the idea of opening the door and finding something that unexpected behind it.
I love the fact that those constantly running machines are so far from where the family spent the most time!
I use the formal living room for my sewing room. The light is beautiful. Folks were shocked when they found out what I was doing but t's my house, LOL
I have a small, narrow open floor plan house - kitchen, living room and a dining room table sized table all in the same space. Thank you so much for understanding! ❤️
"I have been unpacking alot." Understatement of the year. ❤❤ I can't even imagine. Hopefully, you'll be able to catch your breath and exhale finally.
Thank you! Fingers crossed!
My sewing space is also in our living room. I decided i didnt need to hide my hobbies. I hope you rest and take time to recover from the moving insanity of the last few years. ❤
I love the practicality of using rooms for what works for the family that live in them! And the fan lace turned out fabulous!!!

I loved looking through the bins on the shelves and remembering which costume it is by the colour alone.
Eeee! Thank you!
Wow…Your headboard is *STUNNING!!*
These kinds of videos are so interesting to me - I learn so much by seeing how others seamstresses organize their spaces and projects and why.
‘Hiding your clutter behind a veneer of organization’ Now THIS I can get down with (and might have to steal…)
This is so wonderful! I also now feel better about turning half of my living room into a craft room!
I've recently moved and am putting together my first dedicated craft space. I'm very excited
I'm in the middle of reorganizing fabric and making our formal dining room my sewing room and maybe my office as well. I've decided to move our dining table to our living room. The living room is huge and just feels like a giant multi door corridor. I love your little white angel dog so sweet. Your sewing space is perfect😊😊
Yay, for not moving!!! I love that you guys are living your way in your house!!!! That's so awesome!!
Making the main level the level you mainly actually live in is definitely leveling up! Great use of space. I hope you get to live here a long time.
It's clear, you are quite the visionary. Congratulations 🎉 on your new 'forever' Home.
I am only 1 minute into the video and I must say this shiny metal vase in the shape of thimble is amazing!
OMG!!! I didn't notice that! Now, I have to have one!!
My vote is for the swing again! It's so gorgeous and the contrast of the pastels and dark green is dramatic, and yet it also feels so JOYFUL.
I Am Not A Carpenter, Don't Quote Me, but I imagine something like braced frames/legs would work
I’m cackling at “Goldilocks table” omg XD But this makes me extra hype and inspired to finally set up the too small table this weekend,!
I’m originally from Chicago. We now live in Texas. When I go back to visit family and friends I try to get to different fabric stores. Everything looks great, it's awesome to be able to make your space work for you. Also, I love the LEGO Titanic, looks amazing!
Yes, did you move the LEGO Titanic assembled or did you take it back apart?
i think your home should be how you live, no need for empty rooms to look good just for company, embrace who you are, as should your friends do also....no empty spaces to heat and cool.

Congrats on the final move for a while, we hope!!! This is a fabulous space and my wife and I will definitely take some inspiration from your ideas as we combine our households and sewing supplies!
Great craft space, thank you for sharing! The trash can and raccoon crossing sign are great 😂

Welcome to the city! Hopefully I’ll run into you at one of the costuming society events!
Yes!! That would be wonderful! Thank you for the warm welcome!
My sewing room used to be the balcony that was closed off some years ago, so it's fairly small, but it works.
This was super helpful and inspirational! Of course since we don't have nearly enough space we'll probably have a much smaller cutting table...but the ikea tip was great!

You are literally so smart. That sewing table it amazing and now I want to build one but I don't have space 😭

That space is gorgeous. And I send up my prayers to the Algorithmic Gods, both the Old and the AI, that you never have to move again. With any amount of luck this is your age in place home. Cheers.

Oooh! I love that idea! I’ll start talking to some gardeners!!
@@Sewstine Tee-he-hee... one more for team grow. There's nothing like freshly picked food. Enjoy the garden conversations.
My formal lounge is my sewing/craft room and my rumpus room is Mr long arm quilting room 😊
I have the same set up and my dining area is my living room ❤️
Been watching you for awhile and all your moves. I love the sewing room and envy the space you have.
Now let’s see the rest of the house when you’re settled in .
I think your sewing needs a big beautiful mirror? The fireplace is beautiful backdrop to the room and gives some grandeur. Love your new space. Very lucky lady.
Lovely! Luxury!
My space is very limited. I'm envious.
Ha! I have the same duvet cover. Although, I thrifted mine just last week.
THANK YOU FOR THIS TOUR 👏🏽
This is great! as a fellow gaming/sewing household who uses the living room as our space, I'd love to see how your husbands gaming setup ends up fitting in.
Great video!! Sorry you have to move so much! Hope this is the place you stay for a while!! I think you should do the Swing mural again! That was very nice!
Thank you for comparing the dress forms ^^. I've been debating about the Bootstrap form and may still try it out one day. Also for the embroidery software and fabric tips. For the trashcan, if the sound gets to you, I wonder if killmat would help deaden the noise it makes
Love storage ideas and seeing your thought process. Congratulations!!!🎉
🎉nice! Glad you are feeling at home!
I have been waiting for this video!
Yayyy welcome to Chicago! I've lived here over 12 years and I still love it. :)
Oh man! It’s my antiquing pride and joy! I found it in an auction house in Saint Louis! Thank you!!
Welcome to Chicago!! We are so lucky to have you!!!!!
Thank you for the warm welcome! It’s awesome here!
I'm trying to figure out when you have time for family, work and hobbies!!! What did you do with the craft furniture from your other homes?
The aesthetic is just beautiful 😻
I vote for a new mural!
the swing!!
Welcome to Chicago!
I've only just started the video but immediately my jaw dropped that you have THE Titanic Lego set
how much would you charge for a fan like that? I would LOVE one....I have to keep a fan in my purse menopause....which means fan to cool oneself ....lol
Nice. Do the dogs like it?
You have a fantastic space! I will pray to the moving gods that you never have to move again.
His dog as you love on it i think we know what's happening here 😂
That lace is amazing!!
Please put the swing painting in your sewing room it is iconic and beautiful and very you.
Is that a TITANIC model on your fireplace mantle?
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Wonderful ❤❤❤❤
Wouldn't you be able to do hooks to hang your historical costumes? I moved into a home built in 1911 that has been luckily untouched. 2 of the 5 ( yes five!) bedrooms have built in wardrobes. It was a bit awkward for our modern clothes because they are too narrow for modern coat hangers, but all of them are covered in coat hooks on the inside
Does it have to be 18th century? What about Cauchie House front murals? Is Georgie a playmate for Knightley?
Who is the girl in black that helps you to unpack the mattress? Your sister? Glad to see that you have some help during the process of moving into a new place! It is quite draining even when everything goes as planned.
There was a brief label identification that she is a cousin.
As a Chicago girl I can tell you that room when you first walk in is called the front room but it is pronounced as "frunchroom."
