I believe if you're not able to pay the contracts you give to your players, why have the players signed the contract to begin with. Fish, would you take a 25% pay cut to do your job?
2023 was not the year to a SB. Cowboys had No run game, only CeeDee as an offensive weapon, OL was inconsistent with opening running lanes. The defense could not stop the run, CB we’re playing 10 yards off opposing receivers, LBs could not stop or tackle anybody, FS/SS could not cover speedy, physical TE/WRs. Cowboys were not the best playoff team. The best teams in the playoffs win and advance to the SB.
Yeah the people who were expecting a deep run in 2023 weren't paying attention all season. There were many holes, even Dak playing well wasn't getting them to the SB with all the other issues from players to coaches.
Sounds a bit like 2022, also. The deficiencies at LB and DT were pretty evident early on, as was the lack of a run game. I blame Pollard less than the O-line, though.
I ignore Jerry at this point. He's brand building is all, everything is secondary including winning. Fortunately he's 82 and we only have to put up with his crap for a relatively short time most likely.
Cowboys always have the QB fall on the sword/grenade. They knew we weren’t going to be better running the ball when we sent 12 TDs out the door. 12-5 with arguably a worse offense personnel. Get a solid regular sized non injured rb maybe!!
Due to a hangover from the demoralizing GB game, the Cowboys will win only 8 or 9 games in 2024 unless - a big unless - the team, that is the players really pull together. The energy of this team must bubble up from the bottom. I doubt if they would buy into the idea that everything is fine if they just do what they did last year. That will not energize them.
Romo's best team lost to the Refs with the Dez no catch. He had beaten Rodger's packers even with a terrible Murray fumble. Dak took over the best team Romo would have ever played with. Danny white was a really good QB, didn't have Romo's overall talent (arm, release, evasiveness in the pocket) but was a smart QB who didn't get rattled. The catch ruined his chances of a SB. Although most don't remember that they had a shot to drive down the field after that and blew it.
The "stat" you mentioned in the beginning is not the age of the qb. The probability of a qb winning a superbowl for the 1st time with the same team after 3-5 years goes down. This is looking at recent history. I read where some were pointing to the fact that the qb is still on their rookie deal so you can pay for better players around them. But then you have Stafford and Brady who won with their new teams within that timeframe and they weren't rookies. I honestly think that sometimes things run their course at the same place and if it hasn't been done yet, it is time to move on. Things can just get stale and need a refresh.
For me, it's that Dak isn't bad. He's just mid level and in a team sport he can win a SB. But like Elway and Manning he needs a SB team and I strongly disagree with Fish, 2023 Cowboys weren't even close to a SB caliber team. To build that team will require talent that they don't have which is why I believe they're laying the groundwork for a rebuild beginning in this draft. That requires a couple of drafts followed by free agent acquisitions. You gotta have picks and cap money to do that, neither of which they have. So I believe this is the plan: do not give top tier cap money to a mid-level QB in Dak, might do so at the end with another guy if they don't get 1 in the drafts, not pay a number 2 WR $30+ million and trade him for picks, move their 245 pound non tackling pass rush only specialist DT Parsons back to LB thus year and trade him for picks next year. With the cap money saved and the picks acquired they can infuse young talent and have the money to get quality pieces in free agency (QB?). The only fly in this ointment is the Dallas Cowboys front office has remained clueless on team building ever since Jimmy left.
I have a concern. Over the last several seasons Stephen has made comments about why would we sign this particular player when we could get 3 or 4 players for the same money. Then a few days ago Jerry made that same comment when talking about CeeDee. I was shocked and upset by that talk! I may have heard them wrong but I feel strongly that they made the comments. If you take a wider view of what is happening now you can see what they maybe considering. As this team stands right now they have more holes to fill than draft picks so even having a great draft it is still going to leave us in a hole. To complicate this 2-5th round picks, a 6th and a 7th are most likely not going to fill holes with anything more than bodies, not great players. Let's hope they get incredible lucky in the draft or this ship is going to go down fast and before 2025!!!
Dak has proven to play great when it doesn’t matter, but when we need a win in the playoffs or against a rival or against an opponent with a winning record he can’t get it done. And that’s the difference between dak and all the other QB’s like lamar and allen and cousins etc.

I would have to disagree with you Mr.Fish. The offensive line is good but not good enough. The defensive line is too small and can't stop the run. Unfortunately, it's been like that for a decade. Like they always say, it's won in the trenches. Until Dallas can take care of that. They'll never win .
That "golden opportunity " you just described has me upset all over again. And I'm sure it's the reason that Jerry has decided that no one gets a pass and until proven otherwise, no one gets paid like they're the best in the league. He's doing his damndest to single-handedly change the culture of the team. Got the 'Boys feeling like the Spartan 300. We'll see what everyone is made of this season. Who knows, with expectations as low as they've been in a really long time, Dak and the 'Boys go out and play loose and pressure free and shock the world with a successful season. I'm intrigued.
I don’t think any of you know whether he’s gonna sign back or not. It’s all assumption most likely 85% chance the Cowboys will sign back that simple so tired of the Dan drama.
The more they need Dak to carry the team, the more he comes up SHORT!! We have the weakest O-line in years, we have no Running backs to speak of, our defense run stopper crew to a hit, and we don't have a good #2 receiver!!! So we absolutely need Dak to carry the team... 6-8 WINS tops... SMH
Actions speak louder than words. Dak is not good enough to win with an above average team and now is going to demand too much of the pie to acquire elite talent around him to give him a chance to get the job done
I really love all these experts saying 60 mil a year for a QB that hasn’t done anything. Dak contract was easily manageable until they kept restructuring it. Taking money from the left pocket and putting it in his right pocket. Dallas always do a shit job with contracts. Should have signed Ceedee weeks ago, signed Micah weeks ago. Bare minimum made an offer for pollard before free agency.
Jerry is predicting Dak will win a Superbowl, yet he's not giving him all the weapons he needs to do it. Rather yet, taking them AWAY.... That's the problem with this front office, they don't make the moves to get over the hump. This last season they were the closest theyve ever been since "95, arguably even 2014, yet they crumbled. Part of the problem is the culture and pressure. The culture is all finesse and show now and the pressure is high because of people's expectations....both are a product of the history of the team and the standards/bar that's always raised. It all starts and falls on Jerry being "ok with mediocrity" and "as long as they're still talkin about us, we're doin our job," bullshit. That's not how you run a team and that's damn sure not how you win....
With all respect Fish that was not a Super Bowl caliber team… I can’t play in the playoffs without a LB and without a real running game… was def our best chance but they would have gotten destroyed by anyone after the Packers anyway

I like Dak. I think he is a good enough quarterback to win a Super Bowl. He’s just on the wrong team.
Name a dak moment that’s worth talking about
That "golden opportunity " you just described has me upset all over again.
Great 'Like Live' analysis and commentary! Well done Uncle Fish!
Only total Dak "Stan's" support him enough to say he can win a Super Bowl still. Delusional as it gets.
Dak will be extended.
Jerry can’t quit Dak.
I don’t think any of you know whether he’s gonna sign back or not. It’s all assumption most likely 85% chance the Cowboys will sign back that simple so tired of the Dan drama.
12:06 to 12:16 Cause he’s 2-5 at home regardless of how you Dakota only fans try and spin it!
If he WAS .........HE SURE AS HELL AINT NOW! Why say anything....SILENCE IS GOLDEN FISH!!!!!
2023 weak up the middle defense no running game
I bet this is the only fan base that talks so damn much more about it's owner vs anything else.
SMH
Craig was shipped to denver
Craig Morton was traded to the Giants , and went to Denver a few years later
Actions speak louder than words. Dak is not good enough to win with an above average team and now is going to demand too much of the pie to acquire elite talent around him to give him a chance to get the job done
Maybe Dak is the one that wants out of the shit show
This is what I'm thinking too. If he doesn't, he should.
Real question is will he win a SB with the cowboys
If the allegations against Dak are true, he doesn't need to be here anyway.
What’s up fish
I really love all these experts saying 60 mil a year for a QB that hasn’t done anything. Dak contract was easily manageable until they kept restructuring it. Taking money from the left pocket and putting it in his right pocket. Dallas always do a shit job with contracts. Should have signed Ceedee weeks ago, signed Micah weeks ago. Bare minimum made an offer for pollard before free agency.
No
There is no superbowl trophy for a winning regular season.
Lot of young guys might win a SB. Dak might but unlikely. Same with Lamar.
