As of this year, the Texans have had more playoff wins than the Cowboys since 1997. The Texans didn't _exist_ until 2001, and didn't make the playoffs until 2011.
Goff also went to the Super Bowl on another team. All that guy ever needed was a good O-line to put in work. Dak has been blessed with a great team since he walked into the league, only 2 wins, and a bunch of excuses, that’s crazy.

Dakota has a lot in common with Cousins. Both have made a lot of money in this league without winning anything meaningful. There probably are teams that would love to have Dak, but he is incapable of putting a team on his back to justify what will be an enormous contract. Dallas is wisely hedging their bets, but they've also grossly mismanaged his contract situation.
You’re not factoring in how dysfunctional the cowboys are and how much noise there is around that place. Also who puts the team on their back completely? You can do it for a play, a couple downs maybe even a quarter but no guy can just make up for his team not showing up when it matters. The cowboys didn’t show up in the playoffs. Dak is still getting better year after year. It’s completely disrespectful to compare him to cousins. I’m a cowboys fan when I see cousins on the schedule that’s a automatic w for us. No one is looking at Dak like food, not one team. Brady had a great coach and front office. So does Mahomes. I like McCarthy aside from his clock management, all the problems of this team begin and end with the Jones family. Period the end.

Yep it’s the void years they added on the back of the contact to save money up front.
Say you have a 4yr deal with $10m in signing bonus. That $10m is prorated to the length of the contract. 2.5m per year for 4yr. If he only plays 2 years of the contract, only 5m was counted for the cap. That remaining 5m is the dead cap. That 5m was already paid to the player at signing, but it just needs to be taken off the books. There can also be restructured deals that count for dead cap.

@@raise1000 It's worse than that though. You have a 4 year deal with $80m in bonus money, but then you tack on four "void years" at the end of the contract. Instead of $20m bonus on the cap for each of the 4 years of the contract, now you have $10m per year, which is cool for the four years he's playing for you for cheaper... But if you don't extend him, then when the contract expires, the $10m per void year all comes due at once. $40m dead money as the contract expires.
This is what bad GMs do, kids. Don't support bad GMs.

It’s a counterbalance because a player can get cut anytime. So it’s a way the team will think twice before you stiff a guy to a so called contract. The team can’t have its cake and eat as well
So you can sign someone for 3 years 100m let's say, and then divide that over 4 years, so you pay 25m a year. You only have their RIGHTS for 3. So that 4th year is called a void year and that's what the cowboys are up against.
Because Dak has 95 million of guaranteed money. Owed to him .

It looks a lot more like 66 if he's cut this year, and 40 next year if he plays out the contract and it voids. Not sure where the 95 figure is coming from. As to why a free agent can leave the team stuck with 40 million in dead money, it's because the Cowboys set the contract up to be for four years, but then added several "void years" after the end of the contract, so that bonus money would be split up over those void years even though the contract would void. This lets them get him for a smaller cap figure in the four years he's actually on the contract, and gives them the option to renegotiate and deal with that money later, or if they don't extend him, they have to eat the dead money when the contract voids.
