Only just discovered this... how absolutely superb!!! Just gorgeous
’And my telephone shakes into life, and I see your name, and the wheatfields explode into gold eather side of the train’
Lyric heaven.
I mean yeah, how frickin' poetic is that!!! Love love love this song!
One of the best lyrics written of all time, in my opinion
Totally agree. Fantastic lyrics.
Perfection, gets me every time!
That lyric is just bliss.
This song brings me to tears, it's beautiful
This is a piece of video to be treasured as one of the great performances. It’s perfect.
beautiful voices.
Duets, gorgeous!🎶
📸b/w❤️!
This mv should have 1 million likes and 10 million views (should be 10 million likes, as well, but we know you are lucky to get 10% like to view ratio)
Wow, amazing. 😲
Beautiful
stunning
Garvey and Elbow . Thanks best performance ,bether than queen whit F Mercury
I won’t forget…
Guy Garvey is so underrated as a lyricist. He managed to find romance in his mobile phone going off!
Yes! To quote John Updike, "giving the mundane its beautiful due."
It is almost unfair, to take this already gorgeous Elbow song, and then adding John _ "Effin" - Grant to make it even more sublime. No words can express how great this is.
You know that, The Pale Green Ghost and Guy Garvey....superb!!
Who also found this fabulous song on the BBC drama Life?
Love the shot of the band on the sofa just taking it all in.
@@petemorse6663 Over here! This song will remain by me for the rest of my Life!
Exactly
My son (13) and I sing this in the car. He’s John and I’m Guy. It’s beautiful everytime he starts.
I miss your stupid face... We'll make the moon our mirror ball, the streets an empty stage
🥰
❤
Makes me want to cry, scream with joy and despair, shout in pain and delight. Die immediately and live forever. Fucking amazing.
Yep, still has the same effect.
best reply even dude - frikin poet you are
Beautiful. Whoever had the idea to bring John Grant in to do a duet? Hats off.
I saw them sing it live in Dublin a few years ago. Amazing!
So heaven does exist. Who'd have thought that angels looked like this pair though?
Colin Carr I know. Crazy eh?
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares
Rosemary Chesters beautiful quote
Oh I’d so watch that film
If angels looked and sounded like this I'd be religious af😅
Sublime. “And the wheat fields explode into gold either side of the train.”
That line will never fail to bring tears to my eyes..❤️
Wow two masculine voices in total harmony so beautiful..
I am kind of obsessed with this song.
Me too, it's wonderful
Me too.
Their voices compliment each other so beautifully!
This is exactly what I love about RUclips. You search for nothing and you're finding pure gold. What a song!!!
Indeed my friend, indeed.💗
First time I have heard this song.....pure goosebumps!!!!
Two of the most beautiful voices together. What a gift to us.
How everyone in the world does not know of this song, or these two fantastic artists, is a mystery to me.
The only thing I think that might come close is a duet with Guy and Justin Hayward from the Moody Blues
Fantastic. So true that I spontaneously start to cry.
Mary Yersak Mary: funny, I just made the same point to my wife. We both like Moody Blues & Blue Jays.
Had a circular saw blade
Where I should have had a heart
You kept your boat afloat for so long
I was trusted, I adored her And I tore it all apart
I saw you try and stop the sunset on your own
Twin moons on a millpond
From a tumbledown barn
I'll forever want your ancient silver gravity
I can still taste the heat of the sun on her skin in my arms
I could fold to the cold of these January streets
Keep your hand around the fickle flame of morning after
But your smile in the half-light is Pure pillow print cheek
An angel tangled in the very cloths of heaven
I will be far away for a while
But my heart's staying put
Warming and guarding and guiding
The one that I love
Warming and guarding and guiding
The one that I love
The silence and the waiting and the rush of all aboard
Fifty souls to a carriage I'm trying hard to be ignored
Then my telephone shakes into life and I see your name
And the wheat fields explode into gold either side of the train
And the wheat fields explode into gold either side of the train
And the wheat fields explode into gold

Thank you for this
MrBada55B A
Yeah thanks mate
Thanks mate
John Grant has one of the most beautiful male voices I‘ve ever heard...
For sure.
I can't even explain why.
Reminds me a bit of Ron Sexsmith's sound.
I am just discovering all of Elbows music and I am beside myself with the emotions the music evokes...I love this song, and the duet for me is perfect.
Yeah, me too, around November 2022, and I'm 54 now. I have NO idea how this band got past me.
Stunning.
Absolutely stunning. Those harmonies. It's like The Velvet Underground with Simon & Garfunkel on lead vocals.
What's not to like ?
Perfect.
funny, you are right. This song has a great VU influence, specially the guitars. When you listen to it several times you hear it more and more. No surprise when I tell you I am a great fan of VU. About Simon and Garfunkel I am not so sure.
Thankyou, I've been thinking the exact same thing for months but only read the comments today. Great minds and all that!
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you this helped me during one of the most difficult times of my life. Songs like this are such a beautiful gift to a weary soul. X
I echo every other comment on here regarding the harmony singing but for me it the lyrics ,Guy Garvey is a sublime lyricist
Sublime..❤
yes, sublime
They could make a whole movie out of this song.
Only just heard this yesterday and can't stop playing it. Absolutely brilliant! Gives me goosebumps!
Guy Garvey and John Grant......what's not to like. In my top 10 favourite tracks of all time, and thats saying something coming from a man with VERY eclectic taste in music, singer, ex-DJ and guitar player.
There are not enough words to describe how beautiful this is.
This is the most beautiful song sung so well. I keep playing over and over again, the harmony is sublime, this should be released as a single, never hear it on the radio why?
The best songs never make it big. Keep your hand around the fickle flame.
This is my favorite song ever. Always listed as my number one song each year on Spotify (don't worry, I also always buy a copy of their albums). Then my telephone shakes into life and I see your name... those vocals.... give me chills....every....single....time.
Its an absolute belter, no doubt about it. Got to see them perform it live in Manchester a couple of years ago. Talk about goosebumps.
@@blackesteyes1133 I live in the US. Had tickets to see them in Bournemouth in 2020. Then they announced a North American tour so went to see them in Oakland CA. My first time!!! That was in Jan right before the shutdown. I was over the moon. But seeing them in Manchester would be the best. They sang Kindling (without John Grant) but it still gave me shivers.
What a fantastic pairing, such gorgeous voices. Friggin brilliant.
I never tire of listening to this, two incredibly beautiful voices and a beautiful song...just love it!
I saw you try and stop the sunset on your own......I can still taste the heat of the sun on her skin in my arms.....wow.
This song should be at least 2 hours long
Absolutely love this guy is a Modern Day poet laureate ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤saw elbow this year at the CO-OP 😍😍😍🥰🥰🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I feel sorry for all the people on this planet, who have never heard this
That was me until 3 minutes ago! Stunning ❤
Play this at my funeral so I will know I've gone to heaven
This recording makes me swell with happiness. Tearing up.
This is one of my songs of the last few years, at the very least. So beautiful! I love the underlying guitar rhythm that underpins the song, and these two wonderful voices combined so beautifully! The imagery in the lyrics too is wonderful.
This song proves the music industry is run by greedy executives chasing fast easy cash on the backs of half naked singers. Elbow , a brilliant band should have more of a following but the record companies practically ignore them.
This song is amazing and should have 50 million hits not 52 thousand.
true, I wish they got airplay in the US
~18k views per month over the last 21 months for a single RUclips video is pretty good exposure, and I'm sure people will have found other ways to enjoy this song, not to mention the entire back catalogue. I think they're doing alright.
If you want to make a point about the music industry try picking a band that nobody's ever heard of, or one that isn't even signed.
I just learned of Elbow a few days ago and am out here checking out their music. You are so right. Their music is brilliant. Why are they being ignored?????
@@msjadeli they aren't. They've had 3 consecutive number 1 albums in the UK. Because they've been around for a long time the airplay drops a little but their fan base is huge and critics adore them
@@powderedground78 OK good. We don't hear about them in the US. Do they ever tour in the US?
This was shared with me by a person I’m close to during lockdown and I listen to it everyday. Gives me goose bumps. Fits when we can’t be together.. “we will be far away for a while but my hearts staying put warming and guarding and guiding the one that I love” ❤️
Perfect song for a lockdown situation, I listened to it lots when I was pregnant, counting down the days til I had my baby and those lyrics made me well up ❤️
'...and the wheat fields explode in to gold either side of the train...'
Poetry 😍 I can still taste the heat of the sun on her skin in my arms..
I must listen to this song every day. Absolute fucking perfection
Wow !!... I love both ELBOW and John since his days with THE CZARS - and this recording together is just sensational - It must be released as a single and these cretins at radio stations who normally play all that dreadful shit MUST play this song on heavy rotation... Fantastic.
EnosEverything... Spot on.
It annoys me how much shit gets plenty of air time and beautiful some like this get played a handful of times on 6music and, if they're lucky, radio 2. It should be on the Radio 1 Playlist, it should be in the charts...it's just perfect.
3 minutes 44 seconds of sheer bloody loveliness.
I've always been a John Grant fan. But hearing this has elevated his baritone notes by being also accompanied by another beautiful baritone, sing baby sing. It's lovely.
Incredible song, incredible voices, wonderful harmonies!! Restores my faith in the ability of musicians of the now period to write classic brilliant songs....it's a rare thing! These aren't young men by charts standards but it is current and that will do!
My Lord. As if this song could get any better.
First heard an Elbow track at a recent funeral and it was so beautiful, now listing to many other songs and came across this, two of the most fantastic voices ever. The words are just so wonderful .
Gave me goosebumps, that's my measure!! Wonderful.
Me too!!
"...and the wheat fields explode into gold either side of the train." Pure poetry. Love that line.
The more I listen to this song the more I love it. Pure poetry and two wonderful voices full of feelings.
65 people have circular sawblades where they should have a heart
Two unique voices! Doesn't get any better xx
Imagine Peter Gabriel adding harmonies.
That would make it better 😜
What is wrong with the music industry? This beautiful song is never played on the radio. I don't understand. It makes your heart sing.
I love songs that are done in the style of a conversation between 2 people, Exile by Taylor Swift is another fine example of this. Anybody know others comment below
Possibly the best of songs I've heard in a very long time. Beautiful harmonies.
This is lovely; I hope it exposes Elbow fans to John Grant's amazing talent. The guitar sound in this reminds me of Jesus and Mary Chain's "Just Like Honey". Which is no bad thing at all.
Swineypops , never heard of John . Care to recommend a few of his songs to me .
Ste Snox : His live Strongrooms Sessions on RUclips are great, check out "Queen of Denmark" and "Sigourney Weaver" both from his first album. Then look up "GMF" and "Glacier", they're a good start :)
I've come from the other way and having listened to John for years this has made me realise I like Elbow more than I realised. Definitely can hear Jesus and Mary Chain, and velvet underground. But the vocals are fantastic and on another level.
It has. Stunning
This is one of the most moving songs I have ever heard … and it hits me each time afresh …makes my own heart explode into gold like the wheat fields … what song writing genius!
there are few songs i have discovered that made an impact like this.
Absolutely stunning..their voices are wonderful and the harmonies achingly beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful. Bonus, introduction to John Grant for me.
Wow, you've got a lot to look forward to.
@@keysersoze4322 Indeed, between his work in The Czars and his solo stuff, he's probably my favorite male singer of all time. Such incredible beautify in his voice.

That Jurgen klopp is a good chanter.
Wow this is the most beautiful song I've ever heard so together in voices.
Still one of my fav songs, two beautiful voices.
Two brilliant voices for the price of one. Result.
On paper this seems terrible. They're too similar... but it's soooooooo good! I'm in floods here.
Saw John Grant and Elbow at Genting Arena last night. Not heard this before and when they sung it at the end of the concert. The audience was mesmorised. I got goose bumps listening to them sing it. By the way it was the best gig I have been to, where both act were brilliant.
4 years on and this is still phenomenal
Angels very much wrapped in the very cloths of Heaven, who have wrapped us in the very cloth of the beauty of singing, thanks Guy
The harmonies are just brilliant from these two guys what a great song elbow so underrated
Will walk to the alter with my beautifull daughter to this stunning song!!
I hope it was/will be a beautiful day.
THIS is what human beings are cable of ❤️💙🧡💚💛
Thank you, so deeply. This brought me many tears... from it's pure, unadulterated beauty...and the love and longing that burst within my heart. Hauntingly poetic ...and so sincerely and perfectly sung... thank you, again for your all of your wonderful music. X
And that a truly wonderful comment........thank you......
@@mwng5186 Thank *you* for those lovely words... I'm very touched that you wrote such a kind reply. May you have uncountable beautiful days, strong health and peace in your heart my friend. ~
Elbow plus john grant equals me being in heaven. This is so beautiful it melts me ❤
Feb 2019 and this has 350k views .
The sweetest best kept secret ever to be created
oh how brilliant is this...magnificent ♥
One of the greatest love songs I have ever heard. ❤
Press the play button and wait for the shivers at the back of your neck. Once again Garvey pulls out another fantastic composition made sublime by two complimentary tenors. Elbow are streets ahead of other english acts and that is a very high bar.
I was lucky enough to see elbow last night do a warm up in Hull! This was in the set and was immense 😊
Got to see John supporting Elbow a couple of years ago in Dublin.
It was one of the most magical night's of music I ever witnessed.
Incredible combo of 2 great vocalists. Gives me tingles up the back of my head.
Two magnificent voices, made even better with a most excellent song.
"I can still taste the heat of the sun on her skin in my arms": what a line!
This is hypnotic, heart-cracking magic. Listening to two men’s voices resonate and dance together is such joy and bliss to my ears. After ten plays (and counting) my heart keeps opening wider…
How that man can calmly take a slug of tea after doing that is beyond me...with no exaggeration whatsoever my entire body shakes...tears fill my eyes and I swoon in an other worldly ecstacy....my eternal gratitude to all and everyone who had anything to do with this......and to everyone who has ever listened....for this moment at least..it is my very favourite sound....
Its because he is the master of his craft. and us Brits love our tea! 🙂
Amazing! One listen and I'm blown away! Wow!
Played this over and over just wonderful
I am in love with this wonderful track. I am smitten.
Saw them do this live. Amazing. Never seen an audience listen so silently
This man is a POET! ( from one northerner to another!)
Omg. "Amazing" is such a worn-out yet fitting word, here. I am so happy for John Grant that he gets more recognition, in recent years. What a great artist. My favorite song of his: Queen of Denmark. Saw him a couple of years ago at the Icleand Airwaves. If you ever get a chance to see him perform live, go for it - marvelous.
Listening to this again is like welcoming a close and lostlover
Amazing duet and beautiful song
How I love this amazing song..........
christ, just found this -- GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS. Cheers
