  • During home renovation it was some modern design staircase time - simple, with clean lines.
Old concrete stairs were covered with oak boards. It become little bit tricky with stair railings/ balusters - as longest one are more than 4 meters long, I was worried, that solid wood could warp, so I decided to use veneered metal instead solid wood. It was really time consuming - not sure if I would repeat that again. But result is nice.
Finished with lacquer - tried to match floor color.
Stairs, staircases, balusters, balustrade, banister, spindles.

Четко все , экономия дорого материала приводит к дополнительным трудозатратам.

Your skill is remarkable. I literally have a note in my ideas file which say, “wood clad metal newel?” I wasn’t sure if it was a valid idea. To find this video was my good luck. I also thought about veneering balusters for the same reason you did-concerns over strength and warpage. I like the 1/2” thick hollow irons balusters and thought slender wood ones would look contemporary. I could laminate iron ones with 1/16” thick white oak veneer that I make. Final thickness would be 5/8 but that is ok. Probably won’t do that because I’ve found metal ones I like, but thanks to your video, I might veneer a newel and maybe even my handrails. What glue did you use? Was it Elmers polyurethane?
I have a question about gluing the treads down but will wait to see if you reply to this comment first.
    Thanks for sharing your work.

Wonderful! This is exactly how I was imagining the renovation of my staircase... did you use steel tube only for strength or to avoid distortion as well? Anyway with a so nice result it will be easier to convince my wife!!

I was not sure how so long (over 4m) and so thin (3x6cm) wood would act over time - warping/ going banana/ etc, so I decided to put veneer over steel tubes. everything is straight. But it took really much time - not sure if I would repeat that again:)

What did you use to glue wooden steps to the concrete? Silicone?

I was wondering why you Laminate the Steele? Is it for construction or the Price difference ? Good work I like the design.
