Born, bred and lived in Sheffield all my life. Both love and hate the place. It's always had so much potential that it's never managed to realise. Unfortunately it's increasingly becoming a bland, boring shit hole with increasingly inappropriate developments throughout the centre, run by a council who only has eyes for the city centre as far as regeneration is concerned. It looks increasingly tired and down at heel as a lot of the crass 1960 concrete monstrosities that you see littering the city centre on your video are looking very tired and out of time, whereas the few classical buildings we have left still add some brightness, form and colour to the street scene. Get out into the suburbs and the city's parks and countryside if you want to see the very real and beautiful Sheffield!
Agree with you 100%. I've been living in Sheffield since 2006 and it seems to have only gotten worse. It never ceases to amaze me how many locals seem to be happy or self-satisfied with the state of the city centre. They either don't get out much or are in denial, because there's no denying that other provincial cities on Sheffield's level are doing better, or at least have attempted to properly regenerate, from Leeds to Nottingham to Manchester to Liverepool. Since my time here, I have seen the city centre degenerate further and further into a 'town' - 3rd rate shops, pseduo -hipster/boutique shops that close within a year. One of the problems seems to be is the city council's strategies of trying way too hard to remodel the city into a 'uni town', which essentially means a tonne of cheap shops and fast food places. That, and the Chinese building accommodations for their students, which adds absolutely nothing to the city. The other problem is the continuing refusal to provide free/affordable mass parking spaces, which has forced all the business to Meadowhell. I really wish they'd gradually start to sort out the brutalist architecture/abandoned factories and give the city something aesthetically pleasing. In short, Sheffield has a lot of problems and no one is doing anything about it.
Loved this video you did a good job I lived her 46 years returning back after 20 yrs in the USA I see the changes that have happened while I was away thank you for sharing
Awesome walk around, I love Sheffield but I fear these days the It has be taken over by outsiders and there are parts of Sheffield that you just don't go in at night,
Go to outlaying areas of Page Hall and Darnall. Sample the delights of diversity and multiculturalism - you will see why the Pakistani community are complaining about the newcomers..
And many thanks to you for watching from across the water...I hope someday you will get the chance to visit some of these lovely, historical cities....Thanks again :) R
Hi Sheffield’s is great 👍 place to live still the best steel in world. She may feel a bit old at time’s ,but still is a beautiful city 🌃 and with better air to breath i am71 now still happy 😃 to be a Sheffielder from southyorkshire.
Hi there, we've been enjoying watching this. We film natural sight and sound walks in soulful cities, so it's lovely to see someone doing something similar but in a place we haven't been to, thank you for taking the time to add it. We've subscribed.
Since the addition of the tram system, i do not think that the pedestrian experience has been in any way advanced. I would not recommend walking around the city centre at all. It can be lethal at times. Town travel by car is ill advised and unless you are a migrant or holidaymaker, the Sheffield touring experience is ill advised at best unless you have an experienced guide who can prevent you getting mashed up by the public transport.
I want to move to sheffield but am confused, can someone tell me how the living like in Sheffield? I mean the jobs, the schools, which area is nice and peaceful? Because am moving with my children, I live in luton and I don't like it anymore.
abigail jolie it has really good schools and education there are a lot of really good places to work and a lot of fun things to do it’s quite peaceful and really nice
If your moving from Luton anywhere in Sheffield will be better lol just kidding. Avoid manor top it's just rough....and darnall because it will just be like being back in Luton everyone's called Mohammed there.
Thank you so much Massive changes I remember the bomb damage and how much was rubble and twisted metal on the bomb sites & burned out old trams We left in 1972 ex pat in The City of Kawartha Lakes ONT
I grew up in Sheffield .. it's OK I suppose. The best things about the city imo are it's parks and woods. London doesn't have a Graves Park and Ecclesall Woods are amazing.
Harry Simpson, Sheffield night life scene is possibly one of the worst I've experienced. Very empty, obnoxious people, majority students who think they're better than everyone else, and way to many fat chicks!!!
@Phill Taylor Your comment, typing, punctuation and especially your spelling are an embarrassment to us northerners. Difficult asking for more investment when the cost of your education was completely wasted.
looks kinda dated by all the crap hair styles out of date clothes and old cars! when was it filmed? 1987? - only kidding. best place on earth. up the blades. bx
Sheffield today pales in comparison to the city it was was in the late seventies and early eighties. Once the city of steel, the city owed it's reputation as much to it's birth of the new wave pop scene in the eighties , than it's origin of the world's finest cutlery for the last 100 years. Sheffield got a lot more hype from' top of the pops' than any association with our military might over the last thousand years, and that's a long time. Now known for the eyesore that is it's big wheel, a coney island rip off, the town centre has lost it's classic companies and associations, skills and trades that once set it apart from it's contemporaries in times past. A shadow of it's former self, Sheffield is living on borrowed time, as online businesses establish themselves as the primary point of purchase within the united kingdom retail sector. Only time will tell when the hammer will finally fall on the capital of the northern retail giant of the south yorkshire region of our once proud kick ass county.
I know I'll sound stupid but can somebody answer a question for me about that street barricade at 9:49 ? Does that barricade go down for everyone or just ones with a special pass ? I'm not sure why the barricade would be there if anyone can drive there... I'm assuming one MUST have a special pass or some other privilege ?
Polish up in your geography skills lad. Which part of South Yorkshire are you from, like the guy above said, Sheffield is in South Yorkshire so it's suspect that your geography seems so poor. Are you a young lad or something
I'm from Sheffield, born and bred, lived there for 40 years, moved to Manchester 6 years ago, best thing I ever did, I hated Sheffield, Manchester is such an amazing city.
In my experience, the people was always ignorant, there is no entertainment anymore, I never felt safe, Manchester has become my home, I feel safe, comfortable, secure, happy, never ever felt that in my time living in Sheffield..........I met my now wife and have found true happiness since living in Manchester, never been so happy.
A_Wise_Young_Man Agreed. Sheffield is safer than Manchester, there's even surveys saying so. Don't get me wrong, I love Manchester but the crime rate for Manchester and Greater Manchester itself is the second highest in the UK after London.
Sheffield is dark and dull but there are bright things in it somewhere
Lived here my whole life

Sheffield is a great city, so full of life with really friendly people. Had 3 fantastic years here.
I left Sheffield with my parents and brothers in 1952, and have missed the Mill-houses area ever since.
Loved this video you did a good job I lived her 46 years returning back after 20 yrs in the USA I see the changes that have happened while I was away thank you for sharing

I miss sheffield. cold air, warm lights....and my 23!
Awesome walk around, I love Sheffield but I fear these days the It has be taken over by outsiders and there are parts of Sheffield that you just don't go in at night,
What kind of outsiders ... are you allowed to talk about it without risk of some kind of penalty.. do you mean Muslims ?
Go to outlaying areas of Page Hall and Darnall. Sample the delights of diversity and multiculturalism - you will see why the Pakistani community are complaining about the newcomers..
If the Pakistanis are complaining shit must be serious
I would like to connect with any Pakistani living in sheffield.
Went to Sheffield a couple of weeks ago to see my son, wasn’t there long but I really took to the place, I can see why my lad moved there
Thank you from Atlanta Ga, USA! That was an awesome video, makes me want to visit!!🤗
And many thanks to you for watching from across the water...I hope someday you will get the chance to visit some of these lovely, historical cities....Thanks again :) R

Thank you for your kind words & for watching :) R
i have a best mate who lives here,it looks like sheffield is a beautiful city,i hope to see it one day,i also hope to meet my friend one day as well.
There used to be a red phone booth on castle square which magically appeared in Linden, California and disappeared again. No BS.
Sheffield is great lived here all my 57yrs however it's definitely gone down hill especially the town centre
love sheffield and the people residing in sheffield
All the fast panning and up-and-down motion made me feel quite seasick.

Very intresting that thank you,
oh no where has the Bonapartes Casino gone from behind the Crucible theater
Get to see a game of snooker at the Crucible. You won't regret it according to my mum who's seen a few, there as well as on TV.
Amazing!
Seems like a very down to earth place. Only been a couple times and once I only went for the footy but I wanna have a decent night round there.
Harry Simpson, Sheffield night life scene is possibly one of the worst I've experienced. Very empty, obnoxious people, majority students who think they're better than everyone else, and way to many fat chicks!!!
Ah right fair enough thanks for the insight
Hi, is it different city with North Shields? How many hours from London, by airplane or train? Thank you.
Mien Murad 2 hours by train 🚂

I'm from Sheffield, born and bred, lived there for 40 years, moved to Manchester 6 years ago, best thing I ever did, I hated Sheffield, Manchester is such an amazing city.
Wayne Bowns What was so bad about Sheffield that made you want to move?
In my experience, the people was always ignorant, there is no entertainment anymore, I never felt safe, Manchester has become my home, I feel safe, comfortable, secure, happy, never ever felt that in my time living in Sheffield..........I met my now wife and have found true happiness since living in Manchester, never been so happy.
