  • SHEFFIELD CITY CENTRE is being redeveloped and rebuilt for the future. A popular University city with thousands of students, and a city with some beautiful buildings too, Sheffield is on the rise. Come with me for a walk through the city from High Street and Fargate to the Town Hall and City Hall via The Winter Gardens, Crucible Theatre and Peace Gardens. We will also see Division Street, West Street and Devonshire Green. Sheffield city centre is a bustling hub in South Yorkshire, England. It's a compact and walkable area offering a delightful mix of shopping, culture, history, and entertainment.
    Shopping: Fargate, a pedestrianized street, is the heart of retail therapy. Here you'll find high-street brands, independent stores, and quirky boutiques. Don't miss Orchard Square, an open-air shopping area with a great mix of shops and restaurants.
    Culture: Sheffield boasts a rich history and heritage. The Millennium Gallery houses a vast collection of art, while the Winter Garden, a stunning glasshouse, is a haven for nature lovers. The Crucible Theatre, famous for hosting the Snooker World Championship, and the Lyceum Theatre are must-visits for theatre enthusiasts.
    Food and Drink: From cozy pubs serving local ales to trendy cafes and international restaurants, Sheffield's city center caters to all tastes. Don't miss The Moor Market, a traditional market selling fresh produce, local delicacies, and artisan goods.
    Nightlife: Sheffield's nightlife is known for its lively atmosphere. The city boasts a variety of bars, pubs, and clubs, offering something for everyone. Catch live music at The Leadmill or The O2 Academy, or dance the night away at one of the many nightclubs.
    Whether you're a shopaholic, a culture vulture, or a foodie, Sheffield city center has something to offer everyone. With its friendly locals, vibrant atmosphere, and rich history, it's a city that will leave a lasting impression.
    I hope you enjoy this walking tour of Sheffield City Centre. Let me know and remember to subscribe to see more like this.

    09:51 Slight pedantic correction - there's actually 4 theatres in Tudor Square as there's also the Crucible Studio (the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse). "Standing At The Sky's Edge" writer Chris Bush made notable use of this with the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" trilogy of plays which were performed simultaneously with actors running between the theatres.

    Haven't been to the city centre in years, there's nothing there, great for Uni students, but that's all. Couldn't even tell you what the bus fare is to town from Gleadless. So much money being spent down there and none where I live. There's a piece of land next to the Co-Op on Constable road that has been empty for years. They could build small workshops on it and create jobs for local people, rather than spend more money so that students can get drunk.

    • @MrJonnyblade
      @MrJonnyblade День назад +1

      Why spend money in an area where half the residents would wreck whatever improvements were made?
      Sorry, but it's true. Sheffield fell behind other cities because they tried to spread the money around and spent a fortune on the areas that needed more money six months later to repair the damage done by idiots, who have been brought up by idiots.
      The City Centre is the City. That's it's flagship and the City Centre always decides whether a City is successful or not.
      Does anyone who visits Leeds, Manchester, or anywhere else come to think of it care that some of the areas of those cities are shitholes ? No, of course they don't, and to be honest neither does Leeds or Manchester City Councils

      Manchesters urban population is 2.9 million vs 800k for Sheffield, so it’s no wonder there’s more demand for shops there, luckily we are a unique green city so much better than other cities :)

      @@hhhggfhtgdh
      Manchester doesn't have 2.9 million people. The county of Greater Manchester might have about 2.3 million, but Manchester is just a city in Greater Manchester.
      That's like saying Sheffield's population is 1.8 million because that's the population of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.

    • @hhhggfhtgdh
      @hhhggfhtgdh 20 часов назад

      @@MrJonnyblade I said urban population, all stats are online and Manchester’s is like 3 times higher than Sheffield’s, we are surrounded by green space, Manchester is surrounded by built up areas.
      There’s a lot more people living in the area surrounding Manchester City than Sheffield city = more people living locally means far more people to visit the city
