honestly one of the best things about newer tools is having the little LED light makes it so much easier to see.

I dont know what they did but this thing is the best one I have ever used. I was so shocked at how much power this has.
The variable 12 speed absolutely kicks DeWalts 3 Speed Switch.
So blade change may not be as quick as the DeWalt style but think about it, that style takes up more space and often gets in the way.

I have a bunch of Milwaukee tools that I love and they are all hand me downs from my husband (I use them way more!) but he just gave me this one last night and it’s a miracle!!! I am shocked at how many different things it can do. I learned from you how to use it, so thank you!!!
If I started out with Milwaukee I’d be broke. They have way too much stuff, I’d be buying things I totally do not need.
Derek Walls. You know what I learned. So many tools I bought which I may not have needed. I found they all have their use and you will use them a lot more than you ever thought. I have taken on many different types of jobs because I have the right tools to carry out work. There will always be occasions where I tool will be useful. You get the tool out to rectify small issues then pack it away again.
Yeah but there are a lot of tools that just aren't worth the cost. For instance a copper cutting tool. Unless you cut copper all day long you don't need a powered one and can save your 150$for retirement or something
I only get stuff as I need it. Most of what I do is home improvement in a brand new home. So mostly trim and cabinet installs. Some plumbing here and there.
I find it hard to not need any of my Milwaukee tools. Toughest part about having Milwaukee tools is protecting them from thieves.
@@cuchanu when it comes to cutting copper it tight places or out of reach it is a life saver. Plus being in hvac it's nice to cut refrigerant lines with it after recovery in case non condensables are restricting full recovery. Having that foot reach to be away from the blast is awesome

Agreed, also Dewalt is a lot nicer tool. I have all Milwaukee tools except oscillating tool. I have dewalt cause sadly m18 is not even close to dewalt
Dewalt fast changing mechanism is bulky and in the way sometimes. Ive used one a few times. Great tool just gets in the way sometimes.
@@HibatAllah never had a single problem with it being bulky, I am carpenter by trade and using it every day for last few years. And yes , I do like and use m18 tools everyday, and as much as I like most of them I do hate m18 oscillating tool, its not a good one

I too am a journeyman carpenter by trade and I've had my m18 for 5 plus years, works great for me, I can adjust the speed with a dial instead of trying to keep it there with my fingers on the trigger. I just used the Dewalt one a few days ago because I left mine at home..... hated it. The tool isn't bulky itself just the blade change mechanism that gets in the way in certain applications.
yeah, i use the dewalt 20v line everyday and the speed of blade changes on sawsall as well as multitool is pretty quick!

I love Milwaukee tools but the one tool I do miss from switching over from DEWALT is their oscillating tool. The squeeze handle blade change/adjustment was the best and way faster than anything else out there
I love my milwaukee's but dewalts design is better
I dont like dewalts multi becuase of the trigger style switch. I like the ON/OFF style becuase you can hold it at a weird angle.
@Erik Hope this. A simple on off switch and a speed wheel is the best way to go. I like dewalts blade change but it's so big and clunky

@@erikhope8315 you can do that with the DeWalt as well. You just press the trigger and there's a lock switch on both sides to keep it on. Only thing is no speed control
I bought the dewalt a few years ago and absolutely love the way it feels and blade change is better! I switched to milwaukee for most tools , but still use the flexvolt tablesaw and grinder.
Love Milwaukee and Dewalt. I run both platforms. But I wish they went with the Starlock mounting system that Bosch and Fein has for they’re oscillating tools. It’s even faster, just push and it clicks in, and it’s solid.
The dewalt xr oscillating tool is pretty quick at blade changes. Just pull the lever down

Star lock is nice but blades cost more
I prefer this over the star lock. Replacement blades are significantly cheaper and I don’t mind an extra 5 seconds to change a blade. If you buy high quality blades you don’t have to change them often.

I am an apprentice plumber and like the idea of using this in tight spaces to cut pipe. I do quite a bit of hot tub plumbing repairs too that are usually in not so easy spaces. Hand tools have their place but something like this could speed up the work quite a bit
When I began to get up in years...I switched to the M12 platform no need to drag around all the weight of the M18.

A few months ago I picked up the Dewalt DCS356 and I must say I was extremely impressed with the quickness of the blade change. But milwaukee does make a very good product

I am a DIYer and bought the dewalt oscillating, vibrates more than I expected but I have no complains. So far I like it
just picked one up today, I love the new one compared to the old one, but my problem is ill carry both just cause the older one has been with me for awhile and has always did the job i needed to be done!!! DAMN you Milwaukee for making it better.
Probably buy one but really looking forward to the M18 Fuel version. As to your question Vince, the Ridgid Octane multi-tool does have a quicker blade change.
Started with a ryobi multi tool. It worked. I used it every once in awhile for jobs nothing else would work for. Then I switched over to to the mileaukee system- the multi tool is now used constantly as it is so stupidly powerful!
I'm a milwaukee guy for sure and have the previous gen of this tool with the stupid hex key blade change however the dewalt version thats been out for years is way better for blade change only pull a lever change the blade simple milwaukee gets that integrated in this tool and there will be no competition thanks for the vid Vince
Love mine so far been using it since Friday! Blade change is real smooth and its awesome Milwaukee included magnets to hold it in there.

My first oscillator tool was the Ryobi 18 volt. When Milwaukee came out with their multitool the M12 was tool change and M18 was tool-free. So I went with M18, mainly because of my large M18 line, and two, the tool-free operation. I though the Ryobi was great until I replaced it with the Milwaukee. Wow, what a huge improvement in performance.
they both come from the same design department at Techtronic Industries which owns both tool companies as well as Rigid and Hoover and AEG and Dirt Devil and Homelite
@@coachjm310 True. Bur the Milwaukee is far smoother operating and has a wider swing of stroke which cuts much better. I am very happy with the Milwaukee.
@@coachjm310There's a myriad of channels here on YT that illustrate the performance differences between brands. Just because some of them share the same parent company means absolutely nothing. 11 years ago a friend of mine gave me a ryobi recip saw that couldn't cut through a piece of hardwood 2x4 with a new blade on it. My Milwaukee from the same time just cut through several inches of 1/2" thick steel last week.
I travel the country installing corrugators, no one uses ryobi tools in this line of work for a reason, they are for playing house not making money.
Picked one up a couple weeks ago for a bathroom renovation, within the first hour if use it earned the nickname - "The Magic Power Tool" because it does just about everything.

I honestly lost my mind and got goosebumps, it can cut so small and most angles and tight spaces (wood staircases lol)
Got it! Love it! My buddy has 18V. We worked same scraping job. His was very warm and heavier.
My first oscillator was the fen and the reason why I purchase that was because of the long extension cord that it came with but after using the fin oscillator the top clamp loosened pretty quickly which really started to affect how good the blade would stay in place that's why I ended up buying Milwaukee's M18 well Milwaukee come out with a brushless fuel version and the M18 or they might not even have to because of the technology and how good the M12 is
I upgraded to the m12 from an old corded B&D that shared the same blade change as the dewalt. I had some detail sanding to do and wanted the cordless convenience. Unfortunately the tool-less blade change is a bit of a letdown when it comes to changing the orientation of the sanding pads. Otherwise it's a great little tool.
Just got the m18 version yesterday. Most useful tool I’ve ever owned.
Great review. I bought an M18 OMT a month ago before seeing your review that compared the spin-up time to the DeWalt. It seems that this brushless M12 solved that problem. Would you consider the M12 Fuel an upgrade from the older M18 (non-Fuel)? Besides cost, I don’t want the 4.2 degree blade movement of the M18 Fuel OMT.

Fein is fantastic. But the "new" Festool Vecturo oscillating tool (made by Fein) has some proprietary features, such as the plunge attachment for perfectly straight/square/plumb cuts. Only drawback is that Festool doesn't come with the delta sander attachment, although the Fein may fit - I plan to check into that.
Mark McNamara I read somewhere that the Festool Vecturos are actually rebranded and redesigned Fein models. Not just made by Fein, but actually their models if different skin. Make sense if you look at the construction and the tech specs. Just like Mufell colours in red, put their name on and sells Metabo drill drivers for three times the price.

I got this a few days ago. They added like some rubber where the battery slides into the tool to keep battery plastic from melting to the tool from vibration. Can make a bit difficult to remove battery but thats okay with me. Big improvement over the m18 version that was trash compared to this one. I feel like it has the same power if not more than the old m18 multitool.
@VCG Constuction I just purchased this one today. Question - what blade would you recommend for cutting plaster with wood lathe for this tool? Gotta cut a bunch of registers out in a house in the ceilings plus the returns. Thanks. It's my first oscillating tool and can't wait to see the difference between this and my small sawzall I've used for previous plaster walls.
Tried this tool and returned in less than a week.
* So out of a fully charged 2.0 CP battery got less than 14 minutes of runtime.
*A pain to remove the battery to the point that there is a risk of breaking the battery clips. I can see you had the same issue.16:20
*Looks more like a M18 tool, older M12 was better ergonomically. Put in the large XC battery and it get heavier.
*The area under the lever is easily exposed to dust and fine particles. Check inside you will see a part lubricated for smoothing out the release of blades.
I will wait to try out the M18, but i see it is a beast in terms of size and big battery.

Would you guys recommend a gen2 Milwaukee m12 or gen2 m18 oscillating tool? I have plenty of both batteries for the Milwaukee platform. I am wondering if there is a major gap in power.
I plan on cutting shingles with a osc. hook blade, drywall cutting with a 4 in 1 drywall blade, plus the odd 2x4, baseboard trimming and nail cuts. So for the most part I plan to use for light jobs but there are plenty of heavier duty missions I have in mind. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Love the tool. I had got the old one as a free tool so it was a better option, then this one came out. But I have a question/request from Milwaukee. I want to use the tool to flush cut dowels in wood, but the bottom of any oscillating tool scrapes the wood, even though they say flush cut blade. I have filed/sanded down the bottom, but it makes the tool cut slower. A blade precision ground like a flush cut saw or like precision ground scroll saw blades would be great.

One of my favorite tools is my DeWalt oscillating tool. But I too have been buying up a lot of the 12v milwaukee. But DeWalt's blade change is superior in my opinion. Just squeeze the lever and change the blade. Never had one slip or anything.

I make miniatures (staircases, fences, lots of building and landscaping items mostly but furniture too!) AND I also restore and refurbish doll houses! The Milwaukee oscillating tool was just added to my inventory (thanks Boyfriend!) and it is BY FAR the best thing to ever happen to my workshop! A task that would have taken a couple of days to complete now is accomplished within a couple of hours IF THAT! I was using the 8200 series Dremel and the Milwaukee rotary tool previous to the oscillating tool and those are fabulous aids to my work, but this awesome apparatus blows them two completely out of the water!
Vince took awhile for me to get used to. I'm from a part of the country where a few words are usually enough. Now I love the guy, love the channel, and I'm getting the M12 multi.
I had the standard18 multitool i thought it was a beast until i tried the brushless fuel version . I couldnt believe the difference it blew my socks off with it awesomeness

Has anyone had trouble with M12 and the battery loosing contact and the tool shutting off during use? Happens quite often with my old multi tool.

I love my m12 oscillating tool. I can find a use for it for just about anything. It is super versatile. The only thing I hate is the battery fell out a few times, so I will be upgrading to m18 fuel. Longer lasting batteries and power just make it decision.
I bought the m18 brushed (not fuel) version today. Thinking about taking it back for this. Any thoughts?

Got it on the 22nd. First oscillating tool I own have used the corded makita before. I was impressed when I unboxed and put it straight through some 2x4s great product will recommend.

@@chastblind7606 i believe 229 at the time but I don’t know if i got a lemon now a year later it has a little problem . It tends to shut off something with the power switch im in the processof warrantying it out . This is my m18 fuel model my m12 fuel never let me down
Ridgid, Dewalt, Porter cable all have faster blade changes. I do like the magnet idea though.
Dewalt Atomic tool is single spring loaded lever. Stupid fast.

Got one of these kits for 178$ best tool I have bought. Just as powerful as my corded multitool, and it allows me to use the 12v tools now.

@vcgconstruction my m12 fuel multi tool is my go to tool for my carpentry and woodworking needs. However occasionally it will shut off and flash an overheat pattern on the battery gauge even though the battery(s) are fresh and no where overheated. I’ve read online that it could be the temp sensor on the battery or tool that is dirty or debris filled and I cleaned it and still experiencing the same issue occasionally. Why would this be and is it a fault in the tool?
Did they fix the problem from the old tool of the battery falling out when when you use the tool in a vertical position. That was my only complaint I had with this tool.it would vibrate out of the tool
The Fein oscillating multi tool had a quick tool blade change for the last ten years. There was no tool needed.
I love mine!!!… went through 3 ryobi units… this one doesn't get as hot over extended use and cuts through great

11:07 for an m12 it looks like the size of an m18..as an hvac commercial guy the fuel version isn't necessary for me but looks like a nice tool.
Great review - I have this tool and really like it but it is not clear exactly what the quick change handle does - is it just to lock the head so you can unscrew the bold holding the blade?
First question about things you first saw was dumb but turned out to work really good mine was lazers on saws. Sometimes your line goes away or is covered in saw dust but that lazer lets you keep on cutting.
I like my 20v dewalt but if I was going with a 12v I think I'd pick Milwaukee. Back when I was a drywaller and metal stud framing I got the Bosch 12v impact, and it worked great and light weight but Milwaukee has alot more options now in 12v.

I'm much like you, just work ony own house and outbuildings. As much as I love this new tool my old one would last 10 lifetimes as much as l use it.

Vince, any blade that will cut threw 3 screws has got my vote. Imperial blades I believe had the first blades to do this or maybe it was Bosch. That is worth the price of one of those blades if you have to cut that screw and you cant cut it flush any other way. Good times my brother!!! Ps. Had some homemade Pesto with Fini Liguini and Nicks Sausage from the local market in my area in Maryland. Love the VCG!!!!
Great tool, what I did notice was that there was protection on the head of rhe tool , especially when you are cutting close to obstructions , most other brands have rubber overmoulding on the head.
The blade change is still a bit clumpy & awkward. Starlock system on the bosch is great super quick. Downside of starlock blade changes is you are then stuck with only one range & the bosch blades are really expensive. I've used a brand new carbide blade on 1 hardened gold screw which cost me 18 quid & disnt even cut through it .
We have a company in the uk called Saxton blades who make great products at an affordable price , did mention when cutting gold screws or hardened nails etc its best to use at a lower speed & spray some cutting oil whilst doing it & not to use force & to move the blade along its length. Having said that I've yet to see one brand of blade that will cut through a hardened screw nail or bolt that will last more than about 2 screws , all due to the temp overheating the blade & then the tips wear away super quick. Alot of studwork in the uk which plasterboard is screwed to is hardened plasterboard screws & gold screws so when cutting access in this you come unstuck when you hit a screw. So at about 15quid a blade you could blow 3 three of them in the space of 10mins costing 45quid !!! Not very cost effective. Manufacturers have still not come up with a solution yet ! Blades are great for wood & plastic & non ferrous metals though!
I've a few red tools but most of mine are now bosch . All platforms are great I think its all down to personal choice & cost. Red isn't as cheap in the uk as ut is in the states & we don't have lowes or home depot which do amazing sales & discounts on a great stock range. Sadly we just don't have that 😕
On my third corded Fein Multimaster but all of my cordless tools are Milwaukee 12v/18v. This Fuel OMT has been awesome so far with its performance. I don't want to say its faster than my corded Fein but it might be faster than my corded Fein. A side by side review of this tool and others would be awesome.
I have the m18 model number 2626-20 now my question is this brushless m12 stonger or better then the brush m18 version ? And are they making a m18 brushless?
Haven't tried the Starlock Max yet but my Porter Cable was pretty quick. Simple lever near the trigger, Could change cutting angles in a second. Still use it although it seems Porter Cable's days are numbered.
I want one, but I usually wait until mid-fall because my local dealer will throw in 50% off propane coupons with tool purchases over $100.

Yep, and that spring mechanism isn’t even exclusive to dewalt, craftsman and porter cable also use it. So I really don’t know what Milwaukee is doing here.
I didn't know I needed a level with a light until this video. I have always been a half bubble off. Maybe that level will fix that. lol
I use those milwaukee blades on my m18 miltu tool and I love them. Outlasts any other multi tool blade I've ever tried
We had to do cut a 3 inch pvc pipe with wire inside and the oscillating tool came in handy.
I was supposed to have mine last Wednesday, place I bought it from claimed 5 days to ship, it'll be 12 before it arrives. Hopefully it's worth the Wait.
Already ordered one because I just killed my brushed one. Can't wait to get it! (Seriously, my arms are killing me from having to use my jab saw for long cuts in plaster)
Who has a faster blade change? At least 3 (tools using the starlock:system): Festool, Bosch, Fein. There may be others
Dewalt's mul.titool is definitely a faster blade change. The Bosch multitool looks like it is as well. But the M18 FUEL (the one I have) is the better performing multitool (though I've never personally compared with Bosch, I DID compare with my buddy's Fein - which was the best multitool among all of my friends. Key word: WAS). This M18 FUEL is amazing. I also have the base M18 multitool and I hated using it.
