Greg, u are totally DIFFERENT from other so called bloggers. U do speaks very well, no pretence, very detailed !!!! Unliked others, u actually finishes the food u ordered. Thats what i liked abt u !!!! Just 4 ur info, i, actually, lives at 124 which is in front of the market/ hawker center. Keep it up, Greg !!!!
They used to make their own carrot cake. Not sure whether they still do now. Don't rush the stall owners, they will tell u you have to wait very long. Not so friendly at times but the queue is really long. It is quite good but it tastes more like omelette than your usual carrot cake. Worth waiting. In.Singapore, our carrot cakes are more like rice cake, not much carrot inside.
The grated carrot Gregory, is to aid in sweetness of the entire mouthfeel. Carrots when caramelized or undergone maillard reaction produces more touches of sweetness. It’s subtle, but greatness is often with a touch of subtlety and that sets greatness apart from ordinary.
For white carrot cake, I still prefer He Zhong's at bukit timah hawker! Very substantial radish cake and the contrasting textures of the crispness of the egg and the soft radish cake is amazing.
Doesn't need to have black carrot cake when the queue is already one hour long. When you're this good, you don't need variety. I recalled I was first on a Saturday morning at 6.30am, and was told to wait 30min. Like whut?!
This one took ME by storm.. my friend described this version as the fried carrot cake ala fried Orh luak style.. I like this but…but..the chillie a bit sweet for my liking.
Have you tried Bukit Timah Fried Carrot 🥕 Cake at Blk 505 Jurong West Hawker's Centre? S$2.50 big plate portions! No questions asked! Best taste or your money's 💰 refunded guaranteed! Closed on Sundays! TQ
If you like to try the CHAR KWAY Which is BLACK but not BLACK VERSION OF CHAI TOW KWAY it's available right across from this CHEY SUA CARROT CAKE stall in the same food centre Level 2!
I've ate it twice & I must say that Aunty is incredibly rude! As much as I like it, I rather not be subject to her attitude I get it that she is inundated with lots of orders but is there a need to be rude to your customers????
Have tried is before taste wise 7/10 but thanks to the long wait, I rather eat other carrot cake store which is almost as good and little waiting time.
Please note chai tow kway comes ONLY IN WHITE THERE'S NO BLACK VERSION! BLACK VERSION IS CHAR KWAY! TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FOOD ITEMS! CHAI TOW KWAY named in English as Carrot cake is a misnomer because there's no CARROT in it but RADISH! CHAR KWAY on the other hand is rice cake WITHOUT CARROT OR RADISH!!!
Wie b l: sorry I need to correct you "carrot" cake or CHAI TOW KWAY COMES ONLY IN WHITE NO BLACK VERSION! BLACK VERSION IS KNOWN AS CHAR KWAY Which basically is made with rice flour n fried with Black soya sauce n some sweet soya sauce! So PLEASE NOTE chai tow kway is ONLY IN WHITE bcos light soya sauce is used NO DARK SOYA SAUCE! On the other hand CHAR KWAY IS BLACK bcos it's fried with Dark soya sauce as above mentioned! Thank you!
the best food blogger in Singapore

I really love the amount of details you are giving us (the history, the way the carrot cake is done, the taste and all)
I would say this Carrot Cake, is more of a Crispy omelette with a few carrot cake. And they really take their time to slowly cook it.
Idk what’s with the hate in the comments because this store is SO GOOD and rly worth the wait!!

Usually chilli sauce is mixed fried with the carrot cake, this stall simply daps it on top, quite unusual.

My favourite place!
amazing show, serves as a great catalogue of history and good food
especially with the pandemic, when many gems are being lost to time

It's not carrot. It's white radish. Looks more like radish (cake) omelette to me.

Very famous stall; stallholder has an unique persona 😉 and the carrot cake is too eggy and too little kueh. Not my first choice
Fried carrot cake uses lots of oil during the frying in fact not healthy
