      Honestly, the most important piece of information that was encapsulated in this was the "16 barracks, 16 gas means we're doing it at 16 supply". Back when I first started SC2 (many many years ago) this was a piece of information that took me months to acquire. Knowing that, you can look up build guides and understand what the heck they're talking about.
      Great guide! As a Zerg player, I'm not looking forward to having more micro Terrans to fight....

    • @marcospat91
      @marcospat91 Год назад +1

      @@Shiviandemon While I kinda agree with you, I think for more beginners it's easier to not pay attention to that and to pay attention more at the global picture of what you are doing. At least for me it helped me a lot more when I stopped focusing on the supply and focusing more on the general idea (like... couple supply more, couple less: you are still doing fine) For early aggresions builds probably it's more important to have that polished.

      I've watched a lot of SC2 and yet I haven't seen anyone really explain what do they mean macro and micro. When I think of macro I think of automating keys like in Excel and micro for me is something that is small. Some explanation of what those two words mean in a rts game would be helpful.

      I am currently playing in bronze as zerg… I am not very good, but I have a APM off 70 on average and 85 to 90 on a good day, but I am currently being beaten left and right from mass battlecruiser builds by Terence that can coast along at 42 55 actions per minute, I don’t even need to scout anymore because every Theron is doing the same build and this is frustrating because it is breaking the game for everyone who isn’t playing T TERAN BATTLECRUSER….. it might not be a big problem for more advanced players, but it is pure frustration for everyone else in bronze that is not playing TERAN BATTLECRUISER….!!!!! do you or anyone think that this will be fixed in the near future, either by nursing battlecruisers or boosting surge, static defence or something, because nothing will come through it, and even though I go straight into corrupters, they trade so poorly against battlecruisers and cost too much gas so I can only replace them a couple of times before the game is done GG GGGGGG 😢 it makes it so frustrating that I am losing to the same strategy from every TT V Z …. I hope there is hope in the future for some balance for the less sophisticated. Zerg… because now it’s currently no point playing on the ladder at all………!!!!! please somebody respond to this utterance of pure frustration…..! I even lose when I go up to 115 drones versus only 50 drones for the Teran mule…..!!!!! 😂😂😂😂 I was mining from for basis when he was moaning from two😂😂😂

    • @skeptic_lemon
      @skeptic_lemon 11 месяцев назад

      @@fredd841 My man, corruptors are good because they can beat capital ships in the right numbers. An unupgraded battlecruiser can easily beat an unupgraded corruptor, but corruptors are way cheaper. If you are mining from four bases, you can get good gas from that. If you have four bases then have a minimum of four gas geysers taken. Each of them should have 3 drones on them. Then you can get lots of corruptors fast, and upgrade them. Upgrading is very important because capital ships don't shoot one big attack, but lots of small ones. A battlecruiser shoots like 8 times every second but deals little damage, and the corruptor has very good armor and even better if you get armor upgrades for it. The faster a unit shoots, the more important armor upgrades are, because if you get one 25 damage hit and you have 1 armor, you will take 24 damage. If you get hit by a 5 damage attack 5 times quickly, and have 1 armor, you will take 5 * 4 = 20 damage instead of 5 * 5 =25 damage. Corruptors have like 1-2 base armor, and you can upgrade their armor 3 times, so you can get 4-5 armor on a corruptor, which is very strong against battlecruisers and carriers. Also get infestors, they can temporarily take control of an enemy battlecruiser and can also stop big groups of units from moving at all. You can stop the battlecruisers from teleporting away to safety if you use Fungal Growth on them, and they won't be able to move at all for a couple seconds.

      @peterdenov4898 10 месяцев назад

      @@fredd841 A couple of Zerglins can keep the Terran players at bay when they try to expand so you can economically starve them to defeat with ≈3T bases vs 6Z ones (even if they are not very optimal). The laziest none APM heavy way to do that is to just burrow a single Zergling where a base would be usually placed on his area of the map, thus preventing construction- that way they can still block spot even if you use F2.
      The right call for Battlecruiser spam is usually Hydra spam, fully upgraded Hydras are quite tanky and deal bonus dmg vs mechanical units such as BC's. For as long as you massively outnumber his BC's with 4 to 1 you shouldn't have any problems.
      Also start practicing Vipers, Viper+ Hydra are the bread and butter of every Zerg player no matter if you play ZvT or ZvP as trades are impossible to loose. You will be snatching and insta killing both siege tanks and BC's from safe distance without them even having a chance to fight back.

    The thoroughness of your job in teaching us freeloaders here is kinda proportional to how much what i'll say now is correct.
    -the priority order is: having a constant production, then following your main army, then build new structures.
    -always use hotkeys, not negotiable.
    -the initial order is: depo, racks, gas, orbital, reactor, cc, depo; then +2 rac-lab-stim-lab-shields, orb whenever cc finishes, at least 1 SCV constantly making depos, f2-a-move whenever stim is about to finish, then factory-ebay-+3 gas-+2racks-starport-reactor-switch-lab, then medivacs and tanks.
    -go trial and error on this up until you close up to hitting the first stimpacked attack in 5 and the medivac/tank reinforced one in 8 mins with 160 supplies (units lost considered).
    Then, a little insight by my humble self being a maths teacher which fell in love with the game and now wants to challenge himself on it:
    The actual bunch of possible variations you can make may be confusing in the first episode, and the brain here already has a lot to process since these are the first steps, the ones that will become instinctive and automatic in the future: save the "when you feel confident enough" for the actual guide ment for the ones who feel actually confident enough, and end the lesson on a "when you feel confident enough that you notice falling off vs terran, or you see that you first hit at 5m and get 160 supplies at 8m, check the next episode where we will see how to scout and how to adapt the builds on the opponent's race". You already have the interest of the people who watched until the end, we dont need to see how this can evolve, we need to be sure of what the key points are, so a quick recap of those would be great instead.
    Thank you for your hard work, this is already better than many of my colleagues effort! And forgive my english, still improvable. Hope you have a great day.

    Build:
    - First scv -> depot
    - 16 barracks and gas (at 16 supply)
    - saturate gas as soon as it finishes (3/3 workers)
    - as soon as barracks finishes make orbital and reactor (start producing marines)
    - Build a second command center and your second depot (u should have around 26 workers, when the cc finishes)
    - Build 2 barracks one with techlab (research stim)
    - make second techlab (research combat shield)
    - make sure to constantly add depots!
    - get a factory and an engineering bay
    - around 5min (or 5:30) f2 attack with around 20 marines
    - get 2 more barracks (or another command center if ur comfortable with macro)
    - as soon as factory finishes get 3 more refineries
    - put reactor on factory and build starport
    - switch starport and factory to make 2 medavacs at a time
    - go for another attack with 4 medavacs
    Very important:
    - hotkeys for production buildings, try to constantly produce!
    - get comfortable with your production before adding more macro and micro tasks
    - rewind is helpful!

Second impression after I thought a bit - maybe would be cool to have even a little bit more details/explanations, regarding what/why/when to do in the builds, especially for beginners. It's still a bit of a mystery - how to multitask - like scout and macro at the same time.

At the end I found myself in the diamond league with very little understanding of how to actually play (each time my opponent has performed a group of viking landing on my base or multiple simultaneous drops - it was almost an insta GG for me, because I was completely lost then, I didnt know how to split the army properly, how to rebuild and what in general should be the ratio to look for - how many factories/starports per base etc - how to rebuild if parts of your production were destroyed). Questions for you and the uThermal community: when you get stuck doing micro during a battle and then see you have a bunch of minerals or gas in the bank and the trades were favorable…
    - How do you decide whether to invest in army, production, or expansion?
    - What are easy ways to dump resources?
    - I’ve seen you make 3-4 command centers at once in the mid-game. This seems like a good “expansion” investment. Can you describe that one as an example?

    • @mh1593

      1 ) Is the army big enough?
      2 ) If you have too much of a resource; dump on something that works against the opponent. resource is almost always minerals; so dumping should be resource only ; ie marines or hellions or maybe, in certain situations, turrets.

      Starcraft 2 is pretty old and figured out, it's not really a decision most of the time what you spend your money on, you already know in advance. For Terrans, it's pretty rare that you stop building army to build economy instead ; you just build them at the same time. The hard part is getting a build efficient enough where you can do that, this is where copying pro players comes into the picture. In lower leagues people float a lot of money, mostly because they're trying to macro 'perfectly' while in reality it's totally fine to just queue a few units on your barracks and scvs on the command center. Building a lot of command centers is purely a lategame thing ; You're maxed out with good upgrades and have enough money, so you build a ton of orbitals to have infinite scans and can sacrifice scvs and grow your army (because you have mass mules)

    Thanks for this! I haven´t played SC2 in a long time and am kind of exited now to try again.
    Back then I was also most "successful" (meaning low platinum league) with a 3 rex build.
    But I would always just build one tech lab on the first barracks and then hit the first attack with stim finishing. This means it was a bit quicker but obviously missing combat shield.
    However if this first push was not succesful I mostly lost because I suck at macro.

    Marc, D3 here and I think it's an awesome and rather hard guide to climb to D3. Right now D3 is already very match-up specific and requires a lot more than this. To climb higher I'm currently diving head-deep into your build order videos and scouting guides. Those help a lot.
    I remember I got from silver to gold with a proxy reactored cyclones build back when they were machine guns. And when I stuck in gold I found Bomb's one-base marine-tank-cloaked banshee timing. And this got me to D3 instantly. It gave me better mechanics, a stable build to start with, more opportunity for harassment with a cloaked banshee. Even two-base builds were too difficult until I got to D3. In Diamond people tend to scout one-base aggression quite well and defend well vs banshees and harass, so it was a good time to start exploring race specific macro openers.
    So what I'm trying to say, perhaps practicing a one-base marine-tank-banshee is the best way to climb fast to a certain point (in D3 it became significantly harder for me) and then this build would be a great follow-up to learn more about macro and stuff before you check different openers.
    Also, Marc, I know you had many crazy challenges and all, but what about marine-tank-medivac in all match-ups to GM? :) May sound dull at first, but interested in what you think.

    Could you explain the purpose of the early push a bit more? What am I trying to achieve there? Should I rally my next units to meet up with the push? Or should I let them wait and gather a large mass for the next attack?

    • @Aryan_homophobe
      @Aryan_homophobe Год назад +2

      Early push REALLY stress your opponent and make them bunker up allowing you more freedom. There is 30% chance that you will end the game with this push and while you most likely would not end the game at that point you can potentially do a lot of damage more workers you kill the better maybe even just ignore everything and go for the mineral line. Do not rally next units for the push unless you are slaying it already. As your opponent would most likely try to counter attack if they manage to clear the early push. And you would have an army at home to meet them and maybe even launch your own counter counter attack.
      Also a great idea to keep something at home at all times so your would die to a single unit run by. If you have the money at the bank build a turret in every mineral line and maybe keep a sieged tank.

    • @JudoStev
      @JudoStev Год назад +3

      Like the other guy said, it's stressful and hard to manage your base while being attacked. Especially for new people that may be following a build order written down on a piece of paper or on another screen. That distraction may completely mess them up for the rest of the game even if the early attack doesn't kill them.

    • @gunnararc
      @gunnararc Год назад +1

      Just played a couple of games and it's working quite well :) once i got proxy gate'ed, which i didn't manage to hold, but i suppose i would've been able to avoid that had i been able to interpret the scouting more. But you guys are right, the early push really makes it difficult for the opponents, and the follow up army usually wins the game

    • @uThermal
      @uThermal  Год назад +2

      I should have done a better job explaining this in the video but the purpose of a 3-rax opener is purely to maximize efficiency and hit as hard as possible with the 3-rax timing attack. In the lower leagues if you execute a very clean 3-rax you will pretty much always kill your opponent straight up. As the opponents get better it's more likely that you will 'just' do some damage and force your opponent to react, maybe even make tech units that he didn't want to build and then you can get into the macro game (or the later timing push) from there. Decisions do get harder when opponents get better, sometimes if the opponent clearly has too much it means they sacrificed their economy and you can just back off. If there's an opportunity for damage you do always have to take it else you might find yourself slightly behind.

    I'm definitely going to try it! What I noticed (I'm a Gold-league Zerg-Main) is whenever I try Terran, I try to get to three bases relatively early (I'm Zerg, so I'm just used to taking bases), but on the other hand, I forget to build more than 2 Rax (I often catch myself being on 2-1-1 after 10 minutes), and often enough, I just am like "why do I have like only 45 workers while I am just building my fourth CC?".
    So long story short: I'm going to see if I can take your advice and order myself a little bit more. =3

  • @gunnararc
    @gunnararc Год назад

    I would love a follow up video where you do the build, but quickly a couple of times. When trying it, i find that I'm often very low on minerals and gas, creating gaps in my marine production. I'm guessing I'm building it in the wrong order, but it's hard to know what I'm doing wrong because you're doing everything so slowly in this video. Maybe you could also write down the build as a reference while playing?

  • @ghosthunter0950

    started playing 2 days ago. was switching between playing some campaign and practicing macro with a dabble of micro.
    I can execute macro up to 8 minutes pretty well I think without missing SCV production or getting supply blocked(usually) but been having trouble with anything past that. after that I just start floating minerals. I'm guessing it's because I was just winging builds to get to specific unit combination that I wanted to try asap and didn't have enough actual production going. but might be something else.
    I've been having trouble with managing attacking and doing macro at the same time. I either start messing up the macro or unnecessarily lose a lot of units I could have saved. I guess I just need a some more practice with the macro so I don't have to think about it as much.
    This shit is hard. but looks so much fun.

    I have a question: When you have for example two CCs under one hotkey and you want to scan some area with both CC "marked", then both CC uses their energy or just one of them? I guess same goes for a group of BCs - when I have marked for example 12 BCs and hit Yamato cannon on a unit that requires two yamatos to kill - does all BCs shoot or just two?

    @uThermal for hotkeys, I think the grid layout is a lot more newbie friendly as it maps what you see on the screen to key locations. So initially, you can "cheat" and look at the bottom hotkey and location, so you build a mental image mapping between the buttons and the hotkeys.
    What is your experience on this from your coaching?

    • @uThermal
      @uThermal  Год назад

      I've never really experimented with different hotkey profiles too much so it's hard to say, I do feel like you can get used to anything so it's more important that you set up the hotkeys that you prefer so you actually use them ^^

    This is a video that i lacked when i started playing in november last year, I was struggling to read any build guides and to get further than normal difficulty AI. Then I found uThermal (I love your attitude for this game, hopefully your attitude to life is the same) and my skill started to grow instantly. Half a year later I'm still not confident enough to play with ppl, so I play just with AI, but I'm getting to a point where Insane AI is predictable, so I hope next month or at least until end of this year I will hit silver/gold league.
    Is there any possibility that You can tell me (and others ofc) what hotkey binding could be good for terran players? Or maybe some hotkeys work for any race? (like camera setting, which I'm still not using because I can't use fast enough to be efficient for me)

    One of the main differences between common players & elite players (like uThermal) -
    Common players build up an army over time so as to attack at a moment…
    Elite players build up the resources and facilities over time so as to produce an army at a moment of their choosing.

    Suggestion: Put Reactor Barracks and Tech Lab Barracks in different hotkeys, because if you try to make Marines with Reactor when they're in the same hotkey, the marines will overflow into the other barracks' before filling up the Reactor Barracks.
