- Hey y'all!
We have a homemade tool we made here in the shop for getting dents out of motorcycle gas tanks, check out how it works in this video!
It's a simple tool that can be made using the most basic tools and material that most people probably have kicking around and can be put away in the tool box to be used any time ya need it! It's completely mess free (as long as you don't spill gasoline all over the floor lol) without having to put a diaphragm, water or anything else in your tank that will be a pain to remove.
Hope someone finds this useful. Now go fix those gas tank dents!

Alright!! Nice quick fix Red, it’s great to have the guidance of your dad. He’s a really handy guy, the world needs way more humans like him in it. Thanks for the tip and for letting us in on the repair. Keep up the great work, your videos are fantastic! Have a great day/night and we’ll see you next time.
Your Dad, an "old Grey beard with DECADES of experience" is a treasure. Pay heed to the knowledge he's giving you as his daughter. Your a lucky woman!
Thanks for posting this and sharing this knowledge - at 59 years old I learnt something new today - that makes for a good day 😎.
Well that’s good news! Thanks for watching 👍
How can anyone not like you, great job on the tank
Ingenious design for the tool Red. It must be another one of you dad's great ideas.
Red Rider I love how you share all the tips/tricks to getting a job done without fancy and expensive tools. Just some good ol' fashion common sense approach. Everything doesn't have to be turned into rocket science to get the job done. Keep riding that sweet shovel up there in B.C. and stay safe!
Cool trick, Red.
You two teach me a lot. Thanks!
What a cool ideal and such a neat tool that you and your Dad made RED/Janis. Nice to see him in the video with you. Take care and be careful out there.
Great idea , simple and very effective. Proper teamwork as usual. Cheers Richie.
You make me smile every time I see ya Red😁👍
Hey Red! Thanks for that nugget of knowledge!
Being able to think is a wonderful thing and your dad obviously has that ability.
That coupled with his skill at fabrication makes him a very valuable asset.
That was great I will definitely remember that. Thanks again. Have a great day.
You are getting it done that's all that counts you guys make a good team 👍 keep up the great work my friend stay safe be blessed
Perfect timing. I'm working on a dented tank right now. Thanks for the video!
Congrats on that Dent ! Brilliant Approach -
Must be lovely to have a daughter that doesn't look at their phone all day, well done 👏👏👏👏👍
😁
That is awesome. I've heard of others doing that but never seen anyone actually do it. Really good vidieo Red. Thank u so much.
Well presented, clear information and highly useful. Thanks again.
Nice to see Daughter and Dad working together my dad taught me to work on stuff to .Not hear now . You treasure the moments you have . Thanks for the
tips on the dent removal never new that cool.👍👍🏴.
Thanks you guys ! So awesome 😀 my son's tank needs that tool .
I like that you work with your dad!
Hell yea Red , that's slick ✊ . I appreciate the knowledge to you and your Paw .
Your videos are teaching me a lot about motorcycles , Harley Davidson to be exact
How interesting! I never thought of such a technique! Of course, thinking is not one of my better events . . . . Nice job!
Have heard of using air pressure to push dents now I've actually seen it done . Definatly took notes. Great job!👍
Simple and really inventive-great video.
I have used a plumbing test cap I made years ago but for some reason never thought to use a tire pump. Thank you. YOU HAVE brought a remedied available to anyone this way.
Thanks again for another great video and sharing this technique.
Mark from Maryland
Love home made tools, that worked great, very little body work left to finish tank for paint.
Excellent video, great explanation of how you made the tool and how it works. Old school stuff there. Great job and best of luck with your bike.
Thanks!!
Brilliant idea to you both
.
Learned something new today. Thanks Red. 😎
Good job Red!
talk about innovative...!!! not only are you getting first hand learning experience from your dad as ive mentioned before...but we (the subscribers) are as well...... passing on the knowledge, experience and tricks to keep the motorcycle community in the wind....!!! ride safe y'all..
what a simple and easy way to repair those awkward tank dings..... thanks so much Red Rider
Thanks for watching!
I've done this before! Works great!
That was pretty sweet. The timing of this video for me is spooky cool. I just took most of a pretty big dent out of my tank with a PDR kit of Amazon. I think it was $26. I used my own glue gun and gorilla glue sticks. I bet with your method and the glue sticks I could probably pull some small dents too.
Very helpful video.
Also…who doesn’t like a red head with a bike and likes to wrench ?! 😉
Nice video, made my day learning something very useful.
That's a cool little trick! Thanx for sharing it. Two thumb's up for that!
Like your bike, like you even more, like the tank tip too. Thanks!
Great job and great tip for us all. Awesome video. ✌
That's a very good idea, I've taken dents out of tanks before, just by cramming a rag down around the air nozzle while it's in the tank, that method works sometimes but your way is much better, I'm thinking that someone makes a tool for that too ? Nice job, thanks for sharing !! ✌
That was pretty cool great job
It's good to see old school bikers passing their knowledge down to the next generation...and to see the next generation taking it all in..
I choose the biker lifestyle and knew I couldn't live as I planned and be a dedicated family man too...
But I've been involved in the raising of kids for sure...
Wow, If I knew this my bike i got 45 years ago would still be original! Thanks!
Hey red rider that was so awesome and super smart using a hand pump. I'm going to try to do my tank tomorrow thank you so much
Thanks for watching!
Good on ya Red, thanks for sharing.
Thanks out to you and your dad.
Nice, ❤ the "home invention tools" to remedy problems. Wish we were neighbors (got an '02 Super T needs exact same fix)😆👍
Your Dad is a genius hun. And a good Dad . god Bless you both .
God bless you too ✌️😁
I've also seen this done with a small firecracker taking knee dents out of dirt bike tanks. But your tool gives you more control.
Thank you for the demonstration. Liking your dad, you and our bike. 😎
I love that your not scared to get your hands dirty and that your learning thinks with your bike .
Great video . By the way your a cute one red .
Thanks 😊
Good idea! Not a total answer but a very big part of it. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching! I hope it was helpful 🙂
that's a slick trick. i'll have to remember this for the future. thanx!
Thanks for watching!
Ya that's a great idea done it myself often your right just don't wanna burst tank
Awsome Tip much Thx to you and your Father!
That's a good idea sometimes you can heat the dent with a hair dryer and cool it fast with water and the dent will pop out but I'm gonna make one of those neat tools to use too
Cracking job!! Love it!!
Red rider!!!!
Thanks!
Clever little trick!
What a great bit of information-thank you both.
Glad it was helpful!
Great, I love this. And I love you too, girl! 😉 I've also seen that pouring hot water over the dent helps to soften the metal temporarily.
Your dad is old school cool. Need a tool ? Think about it for a minute then make it.. a great way to remove dents from a tank. Thanks Red !
Great Idea Red Thanks for info
Amazing tool.
I have put tank on my sportser, not sur if it to tight of a dent to use this method but I’m sure going to try it.
I`ve used the same principle many times on different tanks and usually it works, sometimes the dent are stubborn and require more forceful measures anyway, glad it worked for you.
It works good for some dents. But smaller dents are a little tougher to deal with.
Well I have got to say that was so cool to see nice job
Awesome.. Thank you for sharing. Great videos..
Good video, years ago I use to do paintless dent removal with the rods and such, and paint chip repair with air brush. It was a fun job seeing people's face smile when they realized they just saved a whole lot of money from a body shop.
Was I impressed with the gadgets performance. Definitely. 👍
Well done Red! Nice job 🙏
Tank you 😉
Cool, looks like a handy little device to have. 👍✌️
Pretty slick there!
Very good! Thanks.
wow a hand pump l was expecting a air compressor great work.. cheers
A hand pump is safer, you aren't as likely to burst welds.
Thank you for sharing. I learned something new today! New to your channel. Keep up the good work and keep the rubber side down.
Welcome to my channel, thanks for watching!
Thank you I'm going to try that
Great job Red and Dad!
The same tool can be used to leak test the tank too.
Pressurize to 5-10 psi and either submerge in water or spray with soapy water, paying particular attention to the seams.
You bet ya!
Thanks for the information 👍
I used a crows foot socket to get the toogle bolt out. But it does work great unless you have a crease. Great video.
Thank you!
Wow. that worked good. thanks for the tip. Hey to Pop.
hey back at'cha doug.
Hey. I just learned that from you. Thank you for the lesson I never thought of that
Cool! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. That's a really good idea.
Thanks for watching!
Hey! Cool Tool! Good to see ya, Ride Safe, Rob
Grat tool! Make it, market it 😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks RR 😊
Great job and a great save of a carbureted FXWDG tank they are getting hard to find these days.
Oh I didn’t know that! I’ve personally never like these tanks.
That’s impressive.
I use something similar back in the 80's to take dents out of 2 stroke pipes.. you are a cool woman...
Thanks 😁
Nice Fix
That's a pretty smart guy he be good to have around when you're in a pinch
You're very pretty smart girl you're going to do just fine in life God bless you
@@mikemike8087 Thank you :) God bless you as well my friend.
We all think your cool red 😎, good job on tank, as simple as it was there are a lot of folk who might not know how to do things.
It’s not all about digging deep into pockets for dealerships to make more out of us 👍😎🤪🤪
Great idea thanks for the info!!
Great vid!
A hot glue dent puller kit works good too, and you can get tank dent rods or bars, but they are hard to work with. But I use the hot glue kit. Good vid.
Was thinking the same for the small dents, aka as paintless dent repair kit.
Im with ya on old tanks and fenders where ya have room they work..but toddays tanks they have a nozzle bar right in the hole and some others are just to tight to move the rod around...cheers..😁
Also the hot glue pullers target the dent alone and don't risk blowing other parts of the tank out of shape like this method. This has to assume the dent is the weakest point, but if it isn't you'll deform other areas and can end up with the tank being out of shape.
Good job guys, pretty cool
Thanks !
Got a couple tanks I'm gonna try it .I was thinking about heating the dent with a heat gun before using the air pump just to make the metal a little more playable .but a killer idea !
Definitely. Even just letting it sit out in the sun before doing this will make a difference. Years ago, after a hail storm, my Dad's car had all kinds of dents in it. He called the insurance man. The next day was sunny, bright and scorching hot. By the time the insurance man arrived all the dents were gone.
Dang it! Where was this video last year when I ditched my tank! Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching!
