For people who did not see the movie the husband who is the first man talking was afraid for his wife because she would be not only the only woman but the ONLY BLACK PERSON having to go to night school at an all White school in order to become an engineer. Being that this was the early 1960s, he was deathly afraid that something horrible would happen to his wife, but in the movie he realizes how much she wants it and then he puts his fears aside and tells her that he fully supports her and that he is proud of her. He was scared because he loves her deeply and they have two kids together and they are Black & deal with racism every single day as shown in the movie.

“I don’t wanna see you get hurt” is also the slogan behind so much homophobia starting within families. Instead of supporting hate in the name of love, what we all need is to support each other in our various struggles in life, without losing love as our compass.

I don't think he despised his wife. He just didn't want to his to get hurt. She's been hurt not only because of her gender. But by her race as well. He's seen everything she had to go through. To be in the position that she's in.

I'm still mad that Taraji didn’t at least get nominated for this role. She was brilliant. And she had pressure because her character's inspiration was still living at the time. Hollywood knew they messed up. So, they invited Dr. Johnson to the Oscar Awards ceremony and had Taraji push her wheel chair. That was great to give her her flowers while she could smell them, but what about Taraji 's? It still irritat3s my soul. Smh

Saying he despised her is strong wording, he actually really likes her. And he’s not her husband he’s just a guy she’s been newly seeing.
Even the other girls husband who doesn’t really support her being an engineer, it’s not cuz he hates her, he just is worried for her safety because there were a lot of hate crimes and blatant racism back then. It’s not cuz he doesn’t think a women could be an engineer.
The second guy maybe had a moment of prejudice, but I’m pretty sure he apologizes for it and takes accountability that it wasn’t okay.

She wasn’t despised by her husband. Oh my goodness, all the drama you have to add. That’s the way things were back then. She was a bold woman. And men were not used to that. He was gracious and kind in allowing her to be all that she could be. And that day the men were the kings of the castles. There’s something to be said about that. They also knew what sex they were !😡 Those are the kind of men that I appreciate.♥️

None of these men despised these women, in fact, they were both very supportive. The first man bought his wife pencils for her class (being the first black woman to attend the school) and the second man (who isn't yet the husband, despite the title ) proposed marriage AFTER finding out Katherine worked at NASA.
This amazing movie is called Hidden Figures and trying to paint these characters as men who despise women for being strong and intelligent is kind of terrible. Didn't happen.

I love this movie. My husband was an aerospace design engineer at a large aero space company. He worked on many projects with the space program. The shuttle, many satellites and several launches. He loved his job. When he passed away several years ago people who worked with him came and told me what an excellent engineer he was. He loved working with all the females and the males who worked on the projects.
