Love these wonderful women - had lunch with us ! Best time in life!
They had to fight against racism and against prejudice... Great women!
they rose above it all, they didn't demand to be seen for their skin color or gender, they focused on the things that matter. Best way to change the world is to get people to see beyond appearances.

Fun Fact: Katherine was born in 1918 and lived to be 101. Her husband, Jim Johnson passed away in 2019 at 93. They were married 60 years. He was actually her junior by almost 7 years.
I counted eight years difference, based on your comment. 🤔
@@cathywithac3793 she was born 8/26/1918. He was born 7/2/1925. This is a difference of 6 years, 10 months and 6 days. Even in those days, it was uncommon for a younger man to marry an older woman
And what a wonderful pair they were 😊😊😊😊😊
My great grandparents were 5 years apart, with my g grandmother the elder of the two. They were born in the south in the 1880’s & 1890’s. Rare, but thank God they did marry.
The fact that Katherine Johnson does not have a space center named after her is blasphemy
She does now!
That happened years ago! She was present at the opening😅😅
There are two Katherine G Johnson NASA centers
The Katherine Johnson Computing Center. They announced it at the end of the movie.

They were brave, courageous and very intelligent. Young women need more role models like them.
If this is a true story, where are they now? Family?
Children?
If they had all if the above, their FAMILY Must be very very proud
@@ARDCunanit’s based on true events and people. Katherine Johnson is still alive, in 2015 she received the presidential medal of freedom. Dorothy and Mary have passed but both were real women who did tremendous things for the space program as well. It would be amazing to have any one of them as a mother, the ultimate role model.
Hidden Figures (2016)
Jim doesn't despise Katherine. This was the first time they met, and he underestimated her.
They later married and were together 60 years, until his death in 2019
The first in a long line of correcting him😂
This isn't WHO they were talking about.. they were talking about the first couple on screen
@antoinettethomas4675
No they weren't. Plus, Levi didn't despise Mary. He was concerned for her safety as an ambitious Black woman in a segregated state
It has nothing to do with Jim dispising Katherine but that his first reaction, because she is a Woman, is to underestimate her intelligence/ability!!!
@@gilliankingston8259 I know....
Its a real double punch, being part of a discriminated minority ans being a woman. Im honestly not sure which one made it harder. But these gals seem like real.heroes.
Being undermined by your own men is worse because, quite frankly, racism is expected from people outside the community, and not being supported by the "leaders" of one's community isn't expected.
@@melaninmoxiellc963my grandma always said to be a black woman is the most privileged oppressed position in human society. It took me years to understand what that meant. She was absolutely right.
@melaninmoxiellc963 totally agree with you.
At the end of the day, as crazy as it sounds, i think being female is a bigger punch then being a minority.
Sure there has been enormous change on both accounts. But many men still have poor opinion of female ability, even within a minority.
@@sandirichard5461what did she mean?
What a disgrace (& so disrespectful) that we never knew about these brilliant women!! Such wonderful role models
There will be more due to the digitalisation. Nothing will be hidden any more.
I thought the very same thing. Complete nonsense. They should be in history books and learned about in class while in school. Seriously.

Oh how I love this movie and the significant contribution of these wonderful women. May they all RIP.💐🇺🇸
God this was such a sad period in time…So many poc genuinely wanted and were eager in helping our country advance. The same country with a built in societal structure to hate them. Yet they still stood, helping us and literally giving us dozens of crucial and life saving interventions 🙏🏻
Literally.
😢
This description is way off. Neither of these men despise the women. The first is concerned for her safety, but ultimately reconciles and supports her decisions. The second couple he apologises for his earlier remarks, they fall in love and get married.

Women like this make feel so proud of being a woman a true feminist she is doing something great and is not because we wear skirts is because we wear glasses !!
The old feminists are great women. These days, those who call themselves as "feminists" are just facists in guise of feminism. Sad truth.
So very proud of you lovely ladies

Ridiculously inaccurate caption..
Brilliantly movie highlighting these amazing women. So well cast!
What these women achieved was truly exceptional. The country hobbled so many people by limiting their educational opportunities then used the excuse that they didn't have the education to succeed.
That is REAL FEMINISM right there! No BS!
The" first" always are the biggest fighters.
"Not because we wear skirts"
But proud to being their part "for the country", how patriotic 😮.
THAT needs to be taught in school again.
....And they fought prejudice by SHOWING they were capable of doing their jobs...NOT by sueing...yelling, protesting. They simply did OUTSTANDING jobs and FLEXED their BRAINS. WOMEN in general were treated as less
ALL women. Of course black women had a harder struggle.
But, they were proud. No laying around complaining.
Have you seen the movie? I'm not sure which man you're saying despises his wife but neither of them did.
Mary Jackson's husband later bought her new, mechanical pencils and supported her dream. He was just concerned about them moving the goal post on her again, about her not getting her due.
The other man eventually made up for his comments himself and they eventually married.
Ive watched the movie over and over. Excellent true story and amazing actors. Brilliant minds. I didnt get the genius gene 😢
Not everyone is a genius, that's what makes us all unique and special. You no doubt have very special gifts and qualities of your own, it's up to you to recognise what you're great at and cultivate it and embrace your own uniqueness
i love how she pushes her glasses up her nose.
The caption to this short is insane.
For people who did not see the movie the husband who is the first man talking was afraid for his wife because she would be not only the only woman but the ONLY BLACK PERSON having to go to night school at an all White school in order to become an engineer. Being that this was the early 1960s, he was deathly afraid that something horrible would happen to his wife, but in the movie he realizes how much she wants it and then he puts his fears aside and tells her that he fully supports her and that he is proud of her. He was scared because he loves her deeply and they have two kids together and they are Black & deal with racism every single day as shown in the movie.
I’m sure if your were in a position back then it was because you were the best.
He loved her that caption is wild
Teriffic movie❣️❣️❣️
It was even harder for these women than the film shows. Real champs❣️❣️❣️
Don’t ever underestimate women!
“I don’t wanna see you get hurt” is also the slogan behind so much homophobia starting within families. Instead of supporting hate in the name of love, what we all need is to support each other in our various struggles in life, without losing love as our compass.
Taraji has some of the MOST BEAUTIFUL EYES IN THE WORLD!!!! This movie is an American Treasure.
Kevin Costner Baptist made this movie to record History!!!
Hey Cookie. Another great role for a terrific actress.
“They let women handle that sort of thing?...”
“Yes, there are 20 women , at NASA, working with computer. Not because of their skirts, because they wear glasses! “
I love her answer!
I don't think he despised his wife. He just didn't want to his to get hurt. She's been hurt not only because of her gender. But by her race as well. He's seen everything she had to go through. To be in the position that she's in.
My dad had the pleasure of meeting Katherine ,, very bright intelligent person. If it weren't for her and 2 others we would not have gotten into space .like we did. Thankyou so much and it's a shame that people are still very prejudice. ❤
I'm still mad that Taraji didn’t at least get nominated for this role. She was brilliant. And she had pressure because her character's inspiration was still living at the time. Hollywood knew they messed up. So, they invited Dr. Johnson to the Oscar Awards ceremony and had Taraji push her wheel chair. That was great to give her her flowers while she could smell them, but what about Taraji 's? It still irritat3s my soul. Smh
Excellent film. Watched it last night.
When she pushes those glasses up it gave me chills
I really loved that he immediately tried to make this up to her and apologise for misspeaking. Like, it's one thing to have badass women in this film, but to have humble and supportive men helping them along the way? Damn it was such a good film, even if the truth was embellished a little...

More women need to adopt the mentality of it’s not because we were skirts it’s because we were glasses
the caption is wrong, Mary's husband doesn't hate her. He was just trying to protect her, and SPOILER ALERT when Mary gets the place at the school to be an engineer, he's really proud of her
This is exactly why when a man tries to say ANYTHING in discouragement ladies, do NOT believe that. Know your worth and work toward all your goals. You owe it to you to accomplish whatever your heart desires that you deem attainable. So I say to you all, GET IT SIS! #seeyouatthefinishlineladies #itstimetobossup
Taraji, Octavia and Janelle ATE these roles up! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 such an incredible movie, watched it again last night
Saying he despised her is strong wording, he actually really likes her. And he’s not her husband he’s just a guy she’s been newly seeing.
Even the other girls husband who doesn’t really support her being an engineer, it’s not cuz he hates her, he just is worried for her safety because there were a lot of hate crimes and blatant racism back then. It’s not cuz he doesn’t think a women could be an engineer.
The second guy maybe had a moment of prejudice, but I’m pretty sure he apologizes for it and takes accountability that it wasn’t okay.
Can't she stop being so beautiful 😍
I love that despite not being too happy about her pursuing engineering , he gifts her a mechanical pencil on her first day of classes. It's not easy for a married woman with kids to succeed if their husbands are not supportive.
I loooooooooove this movie. 😢❤😊
The book was just the facts, not melodramatic preachy.
What they did was incredible.
Hollywood treats us all like children.

‘It’s because we wear glasses’ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤❤❤
She wasn’t despised by her husband. Oh my goodness, all the drama you have to add. That’s the way things were back then. She was a bold woman. And men were not used to that. He was gracious and kind in allowing her to be all that she could be. And that day the men were the kings of the castles. There’s something to be said about that. They also knew what sex they were !😡 Those are the kind of men that I appreciate.♥️
This movie made me so proud of my sisters, especially knowing it’s a true story. Fighting against racism & sexism on top of doing their job is not easy work. They did that while making history💪🏽
It always breaks my heart when men (of any color) treat women (of any color) as lower, or property. It’s not the ‘skirt’ it’s the ‘glasses’.
This movie was wonderful! Their story is amazing! For those wondering it’s called Hidden Figures and it’s the true story of several brilliant women that made history by being integral to the NASA program and specifically started by helping to get John Glenn home safely.
They picked a great actor for the husband ❤
These women are women we men should be proud of. They began the process of breaking the glass ceiling. For brown and white women. Women other women should be thankful for. Jesus loved all people and wanted people to use their gifts accordingly. No job discrimination. Pastor or President. Shalon
“I don’t want you to get hurt” best gaslighting phrase
It was also groups of women that produced NASA's space suits and other sewn protective gear. Highly technical and particular set of skills.
A classy and proper black American woman.
One of the best movies out there. They were the pioneers for so many women. Breathtaking accomplishments. These women need to be celebrated 🍾 and have history lessons taught about them.
What a classy way to say, "stuff you"
None of these men despised these women, in fact, they were both very supportive. The first man bought his wife pencils for her class (being the first black woman to attend the school) and the second man (who isn't yet the husband, despite the title ) proposed marriage AFTER finding out Katherine worked at NASA.
This amazing movie is called Hidden Figures and trying to paint these characters as men who despise women for being strong and intelligent is kind of terrible. Didn't happen.
Those women were pioneers that have led many to take on careers at NASA and other places. They kept America great and the American Dream going. ❤😊
I love this movie. My husband was an aerospace design engineer at a large aero space company. He worked on many projects with the space program. The shuttle, many satellites and several launches. He loved his job. When he passed away several years ago people who worked with him came and told me what an excellent engineer he was. He loved working with all the females and the males who worked on the projects.
They tried to tell us black Americans that we are not patriotic but are the most patriotic who did/ do a lot for America ; my great grandfather fought in the Civil War & my grandfather fought in WW2 I’m proud to be an American !
You get pushback from your own people ,as well as the others, when you excell in what you do.
It's hard when you have to stood up to stranger's but it's harder when it's your own you have to stand up to
