Which switch in S Tier needs less force to press and has minimum depth?
Dang I bought zaku thinking it was a tier im sad
@@dannynguyen2557 it placed in S tier so turn that frown upside down :D
I know everyone hates the Gateron Clears, but as someone who has only gotten into this hobby as we were looking to find a more accessible keyboard me, I’m relieved there are switches like these. My hands had begun to have trouble pushing the keys on a normal membrane keyboard, and typing was leaving me in extreme pain. Finding out that there were different forces required for different switches was a game changer. Lots of research later I now have a keyboard with these and I can type again. We have since found there might be a few others that need even less force.
I know this is not a problem that most have, but it would be awesome to have someone do a video that focused on the availability of what switches there were for this end of the spectrum. Less force required and how to make it sound good, because now I know. :) If there was any way to buy something like this out of the box there might be a market for others with health issues who need less force to type.
I love low weight, shallow actuation switches switches - I just want to type fast and easily, and keeping my fingers light and agile is my preferred style.
The best I've found are gateron whites / clears, gateron optical yellows (I've not tested these yet), and keychron optical low profile white
@@AnotherCoward check out akko jelly blacks, they have the best feel ever for typing
i totally agree, i developed slight carpal tunnel when typing on my work laptop on my sofa for 6 months. I had no idea about force/actuation, polling until i saw an advertisement about MX keyboards. I hope you feel better!
gateron clears? my friends used it before and heavily modded her keyboard and she did a comparison stock and modded and stock it's not too good compared to for example, alpacas or something but after modded it's quite decent
akko red linears or akko white linears sound nice too :)
My girlfriend had the same problem, she easily gets fatigued by heavier switches especially with games that required constantly holding keys. Gateron clears really helped in alleviating that.
this was cool, but names or a sort of end-tier list would have helped tremendously here.

Yup. Be even better if it was chaptered so we could just mouse over the current chapter to get the name.
already been done, tis the pinned msg now
definitely would appreciate this as a viewer
Done! Just posted a version with time stamps AND tier ratings.
yup this is a bit lazy tbh
This video (+ my experiences) really show how much all of this is up to preference. I love gateron clears, kail box red v2s, and akko jelly whites. All sound really great and somewhat muted/thocky (when lubed for gateron clears and jelly whites), and I much prefer light switches for typing ease. Heavy switches started to give me bad carpel tunnel, and I find them to be very fatiguing to type on in general.
Well said
Completely agree that Gateron Milky Yellow Pro are legendary! I have them in my Lily58 and they might make me change from Team Tactile to Linear Gang.
it would help a lot to display the name of the switch while you guys are talking about it

Ah! They were mentionned, but I'd hoped they would have ranked Oil Kings, since I'm planning to buy them really soon 👀
Oil kings are S Tier imo. Don't need to be lubed or filmed, sound and feel great. Also, no interference with North facing leds.
@@Ezonial I agree, I bought them in the end and added them to my GMMK2 and they sound and feel SOOOOO nice!
@@Ezonial I second that, S tier all day. They do review the Blue Bubblegum (which are identical, minus factory lube process) and due to the polished stems they thought they were pre-lubed :P I preordered Blue Bubblegums for that plus the color, as I have Oil Kings in another build and it's my favorite switch of all time so far.
@@Silverstyn02 I just did the same and I can confirm. Don't have to buy lube and spend time. They're smooth and sound amazing. Finger therapy. I am also coming from a 10 year old MX Cherry Green keyboard so more so for me. I've done so much research and anything more expensive has diminishing returns.
Watching this again after 9 months. I really like Randy bro. He has all that knowledge i appreciate and relays the information nicely. Thanks for the video you two!
24:35 No, SP-Star switches are not made by JWK and the molds are significantly different, which is why the two switches are also different in sound and feel.
Sad that the epsilons didn't show up. They are some darn great switches. Everytime i heard progressive 68g switch and JWK i was thinking, "oh epsilons"
yeh i was wondering where are da epsilon
gateron oil king
My favorite ones are also the Milky Yellows. Cheap great switches. Lubed and filmed and boom! Perfect sound. The price difference compared to the really popular ones is just not justified at all
I have severe strength limitations where weight of spring is everything. I also get fatigue very easily. Right now I’m using a low profile Keychron with their lightest optical switch. It’s also a very light board which enables me to actually move it around my desk. I’m interested in TTC Gold Pinks if I ever buy another keyboard.
I feel the same way. What I ended up doing was buying a ton of 60-63g springs and spring-swapped all my switches. I had Gateron Ink Black V2s that were purely torture to use, now they are perfect :)
i play osu mania so i need light springs (i bought matcha greens XDDDD)
Great stuff! I would love to see labels on the chart at the end though, as the pics don't really help by themselves. Or timestamps and ratings in the description would be super helpful.
One day I hope to be knowledgeable in literally anything the way Randy is about switches
Literally just looked up "Linear Switches Tier List" and thought I'd occupy the time with Tier Lists from other RUclipsrs until your one eventually came out and found that you just uploaded a little over 20 minutes ago.
Suddenly the name of the channel makes sense, Randy is "Switch" and Betty is "Click" XD. Was hoping to see the oil kings here but I can guess which tier they would be in, or so I think.
Bought myself some radiant reds, didnt lube them cuz of lazyness, but somehow it sounds so good!
As a note and I don't know if this was picked up on, but the gray housing white stem is actually the SP Star Meteor white at 57g that was mistaken for the Zaku and put into S tier. The variants prior to it came it a weird blue housing. The all grey/whiteish switch for housing and stem that was mistaken as the SP Star Meteor White put in C tier was actually the Zaku. Not trying to be that guy, but I own both and use them both for most of my builds. I use Zakus for the overall typing experience because once you get them right they are literally amazing, but they need a bit of love/work lubing and filming along with foam for the underside of the PCB because the 5 pin doesn't cleanly connect with all keyboard PCBs and it can cause some chattery sounds. You can get away with not filming them because the overall tolerances are great for the most part. For SP Star meteor whites they need lube plus film, but they are the best sensitive switch for my gaming keyboard builds. Both to me are S tier for the purposes they serve, but you just got them backwards in the video.
Also for the record to me Zaku switches are still better than meteor whites. P.P.S. surprised prevail epsilons weren't featured. I don't personally like them, but they are a good switch and the rest of the community is going nuts over them. I've built a few boards for clients with them.
I'm bummed that the one switch I have in my build wasn't here. The new oil kings. I assume they would be A tier since they are still heavy. But idk they are silky smooth and sound amazing.
oil kings dominate smoothness factor i am planning to get them as soon as possible
*presses switch
*makes noise
"ah yes, a silent switch. Wait is it silent?"
*presses again, makes noise
"yep, it's just a noisy silent switch"
I love this community 😅
Sincerely, a switch shopping newbie
On nk creams they aren't 'self lulbricating' as if they generate krytox but they rub of the plastic onto the other parts smoothening over time. You are recomended to use them alot for 2 - 3 week before taking them back out and lubing to get optimal smoothness fastest.
I bought my first custom keyboard and I choose milky yellow pros for it because they are cheap, pre-lubed and have a pretty good reputation in the community. happy to see they made it to S tier in Betty's rank! They will arrive next week, followed by gmk samurai clones (in PBT) and a Keychron Q12 board. I will have a lot of fun!
I'm a tactile fan, I don't have much love for linear switches, but among the linear switches that I used I can say without a doubt Turqoise Tealios belong in triple S tier when lubed with 205g0. They are so incredibly smooth, nothing comes even close. Neither in sound nor in feel...
What about tangerines?
@@charlieneedshelp989 Haven't had the opportunity to try Tangerines yet, unfortunately... Until I have data for Tangerines tho I still recommend Tealios without any hesitation.
@@charlieneedshelp989 I've been using tangerines for a few months now and I can say they are extremely smooth but are lacking in the sound department (higher pitched and not very loud). You're much better off with something like the alpaca v2, especially since they are cheaper and sound much better
You should try more linear switches
Weird to recommend a linear while openly admitting you don't like them.
CJs are S tier imo, the stock smoothness is nearly unmatched and the housing tolerances are solid and sound profile is great. Idk why they are in B-Tier.
have you had any other switches i’ve felt lubed filled cj’s and gateron black ink v2’s stock feel better but don’t sound as good
filmed*
Like she said at the beginning it's mostly opinion. I guess she is not a fan of clacky sound.
@@IronCan88 cj’s aren’t clacky or thocky when lubed they sound like a hybrid of nk creams and inks it’s weird
Putting CJs in the same tier with Akko switches should be a felony. When both lubed CJs are miles better. My Jelly Blacks and Pinks still have an annoying, cheap sounding clack to them while the CJs are top tier. Akko switches are way overrated tbh, but i guess they are dirt cheap so people give them a pass.
This video really helps me finding a good switch that I like since I am getting a keycult No.2/65 soon and I am unsure on what switch I should put in my keyboard.
Well done, this was very enjoyable to watch. I personally missed the Prevail Epsilon. Especially when Randy has mentioned JWK several times and according to some RUclipsrs, these are the linears of the year.
Glad you enjoyed it!
ty betty for doing this u saved me so much time to build my custom board
Got a few linears yesterday and they mostly feel the same to me right now since I've never used Linears before. Looking forward to testing them out more thoroughly and being able to identify the differences better. This Tier List sure helps a lot in that regard.
Try switching out the springs.
Which linears did u get
@@certifiedbruhmoment85 Got a small set of all these switches as almost like samples:
Gateron KS-9 Red Pro
Gateron KS-3X47 Yellow
KTT Mint
KTT Peach
there's definitely some differences some don't require lube to feel smooth and their sound profile and looks are different.
try Novelkey Creams, and i'm pretty sure it wont feel the same
Both of their voices are just so satisfying its hard to not love this video LOL. I know weird thing to say but their so smooth 😏
i must have two good batches of aqua kings because they’re both flawless. they also have less wiggle than any other switches i’ve ever used and i like my keys to not shift at all, it immediately makes everything feel more premium.
I had a dream last week where I was in a custom keyboard store trying out different switches. To keep a story short what I learned is basically all switches are basically linear in dreams. The most tactile clickies felt like browns. Very intriguing experience as I'd never directly considered how blunted the senses are in dreamland before.
You did it, respect
I guess because it's your memory, not irl sensory input. Memory in general seems to be like that. They're low res recordings to save space.
Thank you so much my keyboard just broke and i’m trying to figure out which keycaps, switches, etc so this really helped! :)
Glad I could help!
The SP Meteor White and Zaku switches got mixed up in this video.
Its crazy how you drive sales to switches, whichever you pick as top 3 usually their sales increase from this vid alone. That's some dope power (positive vibes)
Ranked every switch but the one I just purchased for my new board... Momoka Frog V3. It is my first linear, so I was really intrigued to know your stance on those and to know if I would have buyer's remorse.
I just got the gateron milky yellow pros and lubed them myself, they sound amazing, only 35$ cad to switch out my gateron browns on my 65% board, highly recommend
I'm digging the stock gateron g pro red on the keychron q1 version 2, it's actually really nice stock. I'm gonna order the milky yellow and give it a try to see if it's actually as good as everyone has been saying.
I just put a set in my Vissles V84 to replace their VS linear switches (had loads of dead key presses with them). The gaterons have superb feel and noise, but they are only 3-pin so be careful of bent pins.
The Glorious Lynx (though expensive) has been my favorite linear to this day... over everything else!!!! I love them so much
Switch reviews with Randy are some of my favourite videos on the channel!
Great list, loving these tier lists! I have just put the springs from my glorious pandas (67g) in my TTC Gold Pinks and they are so so nice. Was my first mini frankenswitch and worked out great.
Very nice!
it would not hurt to put persistent titles on screen so when I'm skipping through I don't have to keep rewinding to try and figure out when you said which switch it was. Oh good, someone fixed it with a comment.
Thanks so much. Just finished my first build (zoom75) and used the blue bubblegum switches.
Thoroughly enjoyed your other videos and was looking forward to this one as I prefer linear switches. Thanks for the upload!
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a light typer who put non drying clay inside the spacebar, black switches are nice for that just one key. Car dampeners are too muted would like to try silicone pour but that might silence it too much?
currently using the ktt peach switches and holy it really is good. the sound and feel is amazing esp when its lubed. definitely a budget winner.
when i first saw ktt roses i was like ooooh pretty pink and then i HEARD IT and idk if its possible to fall in love with a switch but i did. my dream switches frrrr
So so many switches, cool info and details. Time stamps would've been a great help and would've made this a go to video for reference...
someone did make a timestamp comment that is pinged
Damn this channel only has topics about keyboards. I could learn more from you :D
With the clicky and tactile reviews ive been waiting all this time for the linear one noice
Been maining Akko matcha greens and for me they are definitely S tier. Compared to the gateron browns it was like night and day. They sound thocky and are smooth as hell with 205g0.
Awesome video to see all the switches out there, but to get a feel of it there’s only 1 way to find out. Go get some and use it!
i just got my 200$ keyboard TODAY and the switches i use are RED SILENT, i really love the sound of it and it's not sound like this( 31:09 ) at all! it's doesn't have that ping at the end
Milky Yellow was my first ever switch and years later I am yet to find a switch that i prefer over it.
Can't beat Hall Effect magnets if want literally the smoothest linear possible!
"It's good. It's useful"
"D tier"
Got a flashback to college for some reason 🤣
I was wondering whether you covered this and searched in your channel ytd but didn't found any. Thank you so much for this!
No Gateron oil king? Was waiting for that one. Actually I'm after a linear slightly heavier than ink black v2s. Anyone?
The FFXV music in the background was great xD
6:37 i also use milky yellows but i decided to hand lube them and honestly its worth the time, they are incredible afterwards and while the factory lubing is good, the hand lubed ones are incredible
Randy‘s expertise is impressive 😮😊 does he have his own RUclips channel?
You guys mistook the sp star meteors for the zakus and the zakus for the sp star meteors. But enjoyed the vid!
YESSSS THANKS FOR FINALLY DOING THE DUROCK LAVENDERS I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM IN MY BUILD!!
can you recommend good and affordable switches because i'm getting a new key board soon and i'm wondering if you have any suggestions, thank you.
I have 3x linear switches and none were in this video :( Momoka Frogs, Gateron Lions and Oil Kings. All S tier for me but that’s obviously with bias!
Do you find the Oil Kings heavy?
Good content, but this video could have been so much better by putting in more work into the editing. A text overlay of the current switch, price, etc would be so useful, then this video could be better used as an overall linear comparison video. Plus timestamps (just copy the comment into the description and credit- chapters show at the bottom) would be great.
betty I'm pretty sure those were meteor whites u were holding not zakus haha
27:24 Glorious's quality control is generally pretty bad, for instance the Model O used to be a classic gaming mouse in Minecraft community because it was cheap, light, and could drag click but its fallen off recently due to the quality of the mouse being inconsistent for buyers and due to the rise of the HyperX Pulsefire Haste
I got the Aqua Kings recently and they have been absolutely amazing tbh
i cant believe the gat yellow pro got F tear LOL for as budget as they are.. and as widely used... it should be B tear off of just that imo. its an awesome sounding switch lubed. Clear top allowing RGB shine through ... not bad imo! but the lynx will forever have my heart,
Broken in Cherry MX Black Hyperglide with 205G0 and KBDFans 0.15mm films here. :((
Glad to see MX Hyperglide enjoyer here, combined the switch with Alu plate is a chef's kiss.
@@huunhanle3809 Absolutely, though I switched from alu plate to polycarbonate I am tempted on going back or even getting FR4 plate, or maybe POM plate.
Akko MOD 007S v2 has been revived with the plates of Monsgeek M1 series (same as in new MOD 007 V3) and they even have flex cut PCBA option now.
Time will tell if I do a change or keep it on the poly, really loving this combination now. They feel great!
Yay it’s finally hereeee. Just finished living all my gateron yellows so time to find out which switch is better XD
I use gateron pro whites for work and used to use gateron clear haha. I love them cos' they don't give me finger fatigue typing all day.
Kailh box red have an unique 1.8 actuation ..feels good for gaming. deserves a higher Tier than D
that brass plate really isn't doing any of these switches justice
Whats everyone's thoughts on the Gateron Red Inks V2s? I found them on Keebsforall and I am looking for a high quality Linear gaming switch for my GMMK board
Hi Betty! Since you rated the blue bubble gums in S tier, would the Gateron Oil kings belong there as well? Planning to get those, hoping for your advice 😊
They're not quite as heavy as advertised and don't have as iconic a sound profile as the Ink Black V2s. They have the same polished stem as the CJs and feel really great out of the box. especially someone heavier handed. They don't really do RGB any favors though. I'd bet it'd land somewhere in A most likely, but maybe low S on this list. I'm not sure if the black springs inside the Oil Kings will flake off like gold ones.
@@Rezic oil king or ink black v2?
awesome video I love this new tier list style of content its awesome. and also 70 that's such a good variety!
Glad you enjoyed!
I bought a Razer Huntsman on sale because I liked the feel so I have absolutely no idea what any of this information means or where I would go to learn about this stuff. But I'm enjoying it!
I just ordered some TTC Matrix-01 linear switches...not sure how they would compare with the TTC Ace or Speed Silver switches here (or the Gold Pink)...also ordered the tactile ones too to try those but that's a different video. Never really used linears that much so I'm looking forward to trying them out...not sure if I picked good ones to try or not (45g actuation and 55g bottom out seems like what I would want).
with the aqua kings i was told that a lot of the inconsistencies come from them either not being lubed very well or being over lubed. I saw a video and I cant remember who it was but they were doing a build with these and they took apart each switch, wiped them clean and the reaplyed their own lube more evenly and they said it was much much better
personally my favorites are ttc goldpinks
I feel attacked since you put my Gateron clears switches in F tier immediately. LOL
Did you guys rank the tangerines? I can't seem to find it
no need to rank them, everyone knows they are the nicest linear :)
I bought a ducky one 2 sf that had kaihl box red's in them. Sounds like a standard mechanical keyboard. Been watching all kinds of videos about making a custom keyboard and decided to buy all the stuff to make my own. Got the keychron v2, gateron milky yellows and durock stabs. Lubed the stabs and lubed the switches and did no other mods and holy hell, the difference in sound and feel is like night and day
i really wish both variants of Tangerines were compared to the rest here but regardless, this was pretty thorough and enlightening bc i now understand your switch preferences more! thanks for making this
i know im late to this video, but did she say why tangerines werent rated? i think i missed that in the video
@@thisjustanother i’d know as well

Anyone have a comparison on silent tactile switches? Would love to have side by side comparisons.
kind of just watched this for fun, didnt expect to want to buy any switches from here since i dont like spending a ton of money on keebs but those blue bubblegums sound very promising
Hi Betty, I just bought gateron yellow with 3 pins switches to replace my blue switches who have only 1 pin, but the problem is that the pcb plate has only 1 input for 1 switch pin and yellow gateron switches have 3 pins. What can I do ?
9:56 as far as i remember, she never bought aqua kings, she bought tecsee ice candies, they look the same but the ice candies have a more consistant pre lube and is from a different manufacturer. Funfact: the ice candies are half the price of the aqua kings
Tried out some Lavenders on my brother's board and loved them, getting them in my first custom build soon!
Nice!
Just put 68 lynx switches in a melgeek and 13 of them were dead and even more only actuated 50% of the time
Lubed and filmed Gat Black Ink v2 are love and life.
I'm really curious about you're thoughts on the Gateron Cream Soda switches, I got them for my build and I absolutely LOVE the sound profile and feel of them
Hi, everyone. I need some help please. I'm looking for a silent but non-scratchy switch.
I've just bought my first mechanical keyboard akko 3087 v2 with jelly pinks, they're great make a lot of sound when bottom down or top up. I could use some o rings but it wouldn't resolve the "problem".
I'm looking to buy a custom keyboard so I really need to get a perfect switch for me.
Any suggestions for the switches?
