Land Rover has disappointed me by discontinuing the shape of Discovery 4. That was the best Land Rover ever. i drive-tested the Dico 5 and hated almost everything it featured... it was lighter compared to the Disc 4, and it felt very feminine to me. My hope is the the Lad Rover Defender, but it is not as impressive as the Disc 4. In the meantime I stick to my Disc 4 before i move to MB G Wagon. Brings us back our Disc 4.
When I was time for us to buy a family car, luxury and practicality is what we were looking for. But unfortunately LR wasn’t able to give us that. The MB GLB was an option but I hated the electric seats so opted for VW Terramount Very happy with it But missing the luxury feel
I think their marketing says women are their target. Men don't count in 2023. The LR4 looks great. The bubble look of the new ones and the weird narrow rear end of the Range Rovers, not so great.
Owner of a Disco 4, has the practicality and capability that anyone would ever need. Didn’t like the look of Disco 5, the reliability issues have made me glad I stuck with Disco 4. As mentioned by others LR products tend to overlap other LR models, ALL EXPENSIVE, and reducing choice for the consumer. LR better hope that their isn’t a serious recession, since luxury will be the first thing people cut out of their budgeting.
What I would like to find in disco 6 is practicality as I have in my 4, that is scissor closing second row to enter to the 3rd row! The engineers for some reason forgot about and this is so easy to add! And secondly space, space, space. New Def 110 has same size as disco 4 and offers so less space in 3rd row and trunk. Even trunk window/entrence is way smaller 😢 Last think I missed for is… give us back split tall gate! With my family we spent so much great moments seating of this folding gate 🎉 Flat, huge… so many memories. Now disco 5 has this optional little snowboard😢 WHYYYYYY?! So looking forward to see disco 6, crossing fingers they will give us back what they took away! 😊 … and 3 independent seats in 2end row!!! Give it back! 😂
Having had a D5 Metropolitan on loan for a month, I’m a massive fan. Three things I don’t want to see in the D6. The flush door handles. I’ve had them on the two Velars I’ve owned and they solve a problem that doesn’t exist while creating unnecessary difficulties. Opening is a two stage operation. Press the button the pull the handle. It almost renders keyless entry useless. I find myself using the fob to lock and unlock. A retrograde step. Style over function. Not really a Land Rover Virtue. I’d like to see the asymmetric tailgate layout dumped. Alpine lights and a more pronounced raised roofline as a nod to the original Disco could be a nice touch.
Always great to hear people’s thoughts on things like this. I too am not a fan of the flush door handles, heard lots of problems with them. Thanks for watching the channel and I appreciate your comments 👍🏻
I think I just realized they had to get rid of the LR4 box look because it was too similar to the new Defender, since many people say the new Defender is just a new Discovery... so the LR4 went sideways, but I think the LR3/4 are better looking than the new Defender. They just weigh too much.
Have had my 2016 D4 for 8 years. I paid £48K new, which was doable as someone who had worked his way up the car ownership ladder with trading in and getting additional 12K bank loans over 3 years for £300-350 a month. It's currently clocking at 37000 miles. I love it to bits. It does everything I want it to. I love the flat load area with the seats down. Love the split tailgate. It's totally classless and It looks great. It pulls our twin axle caravan with supreme confidence and It is the longest I have ever owned a car. I have pulled the plug on two Defender deals at the dealers. They are a compromise on the Discovery 4. And a pretty penny to boot. I just couldn't see any advantage over the D4. I have another two years before I cannot take out the annual LR warranty on it. (10 years is, I believe, the maximum age). So what do I do then? Give in, or keep it with the risks involved? I will be interested in the Discovery 6, but not if it is priced more than the Defender, no way. Can we please get back to the days of straight financing and stop car companies cashing in on PCP (i.e Paying only for the depreciation) new car price setting. I want to budget for it responsibly, I want to own something and I want to look after it. It feels good. It's that simple. I suppose I am behind the times but the car market seems artificial to me. IMHO🙂
As Disco 4 owner would say Land Rover made a mistake going with Range Rover new style , those models more city type cars were Defender rugged and more adventurous , that where Discovery should be Calling you to go wild not to supermarket
Hopefully Land rover will follow the likes of Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus by making them more boxier which will be a nod back to the old lady rover defender and Discovery 4 which was probably the best discovery.
I always thought it was a shame that they moved away from the iconic Discovery look. The new style disco should really have been the Freelander 3 and then old disco style should've been iterated on
Drive a D4 as our family/vacation vehicle. Disco5 gives way less comfort on 2nd row for our 1.85 meter kids. The New Def110 and 130 don't offer the same flexiblity as the D4 when it comes to the (7) seats configuration. The floor with all the seats down is a laugh. The word "flat" doesn't even comes close! Discovery for me is a car for long journeys, easy green laning and some mountain tracks but the current Disco is just too luxery and lost it's practicallity. It's more a RR Cargo to me. I'll stick to my Discovery 4 until it falls apart.
My opinion is Land Rover made a huge mistake producing the unreliable ugly duckling Discovery 5. They could have completely missed it out and made what we know as the Defender should have been Discovery 5. That would have freed up time and money to produce a more utilitarian Defender that would have sold like hot cakes. Velar another waste of time and effort, just to many overlapping models. JLR need to concentrate on reiability not endless new models.
@@thedoctorsgarage Respect that. Eye of the beholder I suppose but it hasn't been a sales success and that's what counts. Maybe with that rear end sorted it may help along with dependable reliability.
The Defender like the G-Wagen has a cache’ that will wear off over time. They are all over San Francisco but they barely see rain let alone a dirt road. Land Rover is laughing on the way to the bank. But I think Disco could have a family positioning and yet as capable as the Defender. My 2017 Disco 5 was up and down the slick rock of Moab and on the dirt roads of Canyonlands National Park. I would like to see the new Disco to come in an off-road trim and a luxury trim.
Having since 2012 😅owned Discovery 4’s and 5’s, Range Rover Sports, and now a Defender 110 P400E in X Dynamic HSE + various extras, I very much doubt that I would go back to the Disco or the RRS. The Defender has surprised me - yes there are a few more plasticky bits, but in this trim and engine it is comfortable, powerful, quiet and reasonably economical! Oh, and it looks good too 👍😉
Hi @MisterA-vintage that's really interesting, it's always good to hear from someone who has experienced owning such a full range of the JLR vehicles. Thanks for watching 🙌

I now run a 2020 D5 SD6 and again no major issues (just the usual window regulators).
