    Great video and some good advice. The only one that is almost impossible to achieve is ensuring you end up with no females in the tank. You can do your best when choosing new fish but there is no guarantee.

    I've watched this at least half a dozen times hoping to pick up something new! Great vid! Question: I notice you have a divider in some of your fry tanks... What kind of divider are you using?

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  4 года назад

      Shawn Eliason glad you enjoy this video mate. The dividers I use are from petco I believe. Just the standard ones for 55 & 29 gallons have worked well for me👍🏻

    I like your tank, its simple and elegant. I just got a 75 and have been pondering what to do with it as far as design.. I was looking at the 3d backgrounds but it seems like a lot going on...noisy.. it already comes with black backdrop with LEDs.. but you're tank just looks awesome.. I love the simplicity.. the black with the white really make the colors of the fish pop!

      Mile High Beer Guy for sure! That’s what I love about my tanks. The black background against the white sand looks awesome in my view👌🏻 thanks a lot for watching & commenting!

      Cichlidscape • I think my VC-10 might b a female but not sure... If it is, it's the only female in the tank. Time will tell... No one is acting aggressive like they want to breed, and it still has good color even if it is a female. It acts pretty aggressive like a male tho. Took ur advice on my sunshine! Bought him and he was stunning, but then put him in the tank and he just turned dull as hell. I just put him in a tank w/juvie peacocks so he'll b the dominant one for sure. Hope it works out.
      All the rest of my guys look pretty good I think. The fusco is the stunner for sure! Eureka red OB looks great, Apache sulfur head looks great, red top hongi looks great, etc. U can see them in my newest vid I posted of u want. High hopes my sunshine will turn around like urs did.

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  7 лет назад

      Kevin Pitts yeah for sure let me know what happens with the sunshine but it sure helped mine! Let him be dominant in the smaller tank & put on some good size👍🏻 I'll check the video out now

    Cool tank & nice vid. I do wish though that people would differentiate between the rift lakes rather than just calling them "african cichlids". Reason being that the information for/about malawi cichlids often doesn't apply to cichlids from tanganyika & victoria. It most definitely doesn't apply to west africans.

    I see rainbow sharks and clown loaches in cichlid tanks all the time on RUclips. I have 2 rainbow sharks and they are my favorite fish so far! Once I get a peacock tank set up, do you think I can add them together?

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  6 лет назад +1

      Jeppy 18 I have a rainbow in there right now although I have noticed he's getting nipped a little more recently, as the Africans have been getting a lot bigger. I'm starting a 55 juve tank soon though so he's going to go in there with them👍🏻 I'm sure you try it, see how it goes. Just have to shark be the first one in there

      Kieran Bartlett It's sometimes tough with mbuna. Checked out some of your vids & I see the majority of yours are mbuna. They're great as both the males and females show great color but for that reason they can be harder to sex. The only way is through venting them once they are sexually mature👍🏻

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  5 лет назад

      Antoine Lewis some mbunas are more aggressive than others so it just depends on the type. For the most part I know yellow labs & acei are less aggressive but beyond that I’m not so sure👍🏻 you can vent males & females once they are sexually mature. There’s many videos on RUclips that explain it, although I haven’t done one yet. Hopefully soon😂 thanks for watching Antoine!

      Thanks for sending this in mate. This is a tough one. Sadly it seems like you can put this down to African cichlids being African cichlids. This is going to happen. An option would be to take out the dominant fish/boss and see if this helps other fish color up. This will sometimes work if the tank boss is a bit of a jerk. Besides that….I would say just give it time. Those fish may just be going through a weird phase and it might take them a while to become 100% comfortable again and color back up

    Would bala sharks or red tails be ok to mix with cichlids?

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  5 лет назад

      david stewart I’m not too sure about that David. For a lot of people rainbow sharks don’t work but mine has been with my Africans for 4+ years now & has always done well. Trail & error I guess! But I personally don’t see why red tails or bala’s couldn’t work. The bala’s do get very large though. That would be the major potential issue I could see. Depends on what size tank & what kind of af’s you have. Thanks for checking out the channel👍🏻

      @cichlidscape  5 лет назад

      toast23481 what places have you checked out? If your buying them young it can be 50/50 for a chance at a male. Just an educated guess you know👍🏻 thanks for watching man

      Cichlidscape • well checked a couple of places that have Facebook pages but only have a male in their fish list once in a blue moon and even then might not be one of the peacocks I’m looking for. I’m considering just buying them all young from the store near me but hand picking from fin shape just to give me a better chance

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  5 лет назад

      toast23481 there’s a few that I know of. Imperial tropicals, south east cichlids & the cichlidshack to name a few👍🏻 you will have to pay more for the bigger definite males but if your willing to then that will work out for your showtank!

      @cichlidscape  6 лет назад

      Wayne Smith they’ll begin to color up as they grow/ become more dominant in the tank👍🏻 every Cichlid differs in the time it takes them but some can start to show color as small as 1.5-2 inches

    you are doing something wrong. your cichlids are not well colored.
    the water temperature had to be right. as well as the water values. regular water changes. ideally no stones in the aquarium .. ideally only sand. so there is no evidence of district formation. and much more has to be considered.

      anton auscomtpon based on how my fish look & how I’m breeding them....I would say I’m doing pretty good. Check out my recent videos and the fish I do have & my setups👍🏻 one other thing to consider, there’s many different ways to do things. anton auscomtpon great looking ob’s. That strain is very different to the fish I’m breeding & growing out though. Most of the wild caught or pure bred Aulonocara don’t color up until 2-3inches big. Ob’s are different as they are not naturally found of course (man made strain as I’m sure you know)👍🏻

      Ashelie Claesson yeah anything high in protein will do the trick! Just gotta be careful feeding it as Africans (especially mbuna & aulonocara) can get Malawi bloat pretty easily. Smaller digestive tract I believe. Thanks for watching & commenting!
