Hey Thanks for your video, I had been thinking about getting a magna flow for my 2014 Focus Titanium, now I'm totally convinced it sounds great and looks much much better
I have a 2013 Focus titanium and I bought my car with this exhaust installed. If that weren't the case I probably would never run it. It's way too quiet for me. However when combined with a Roush Cold Air intake it sounds pretty damn good. I'd highly recommend the Roush intake for the focus se/titanium models, makes the car sound 10x faster and definitely increases power. Not so much for mpg tho lol. Too bad there aren't a lot of exhaust options for this car, otherwise I'd explore them.
I'll bet you're glad you got the manual, although my 2018 Titanium has 120k on it with the dual clutch auto and it runs like a champ! That little 2.0 dohc with direct injection is a solid-ass little power maker! There was a dude in a g37x sedan driving like a bitch in traffic and almost hit me twice so I started to chase his ass down and he was desperately trying to get away but he just could NOT shake that little Focus!
Thanks for the great video.. every install I have done that is " bolt on" always misses steps and is harder than expected.. lol.. but it's always worth it. Your car sounds awesome! Good job!
Glad I came across your vid! Got a 17 SEL a few months ago and was considering getting this in the near future. Now that I've seen this, I'll def get it, and may not have the patience to wait too long xD Super helpful and in depth. Thanks for helping me make my mind up! :D
that's a shame it took so much work to install it. Usually Magnaflow does much better with fit and finish. I was really thinking of buying one, now I may be Borla or else where. Edit: i went with the Magnaflow. I have a video of how it looks when the car is on the lift. Feel free to check it out. With that, the only hard part was the two bolts at the catalytic converter. MUCH EASIER on a lift. Once the old exhaust was off, the new magnaflow went on in about 15 minutes.
has anyone ever tried just a cheap slip on exhaust for these focuses? i’m looking to get some sound out of my SE but the car is on the higher end of kilometres now so i don’t want to sink a lot of money into it.
Sup Bro! Thank you for the install tips, it will help a lot by the time i change it! By the time i saw the effort you made and the sound it makes i was right about this exaust! Cheers from Brazil! Peace bro!
Carlos Roberto Lourenço Filho Glad I could help. Now that the exhaust is fully broken in it's a bit louder than in the video and sounds perfect to me (for a Ford focus... lol)
has anyone ever tried just a cheap slip on exhaust for these focuses? i’m looking to get some sound out of my SE but the car is on the higher end of kilometres now so i don’t want to sink a lot of money into it.
So far, this is the only cat-back exhaust I've found for a Focus that doesn't sound completely like trash. Still sounds "meh" at best, but I could probably tolerate it if it did actually give me a MPG boost.
Exiss That's why I dished out a little extra money for Magnaflow. I've heard a Borla on a focus st and it sounded nice, but I would never put it on an SE.
Dakota Alger I'm not sure if a lot of it has to do with recording quality, but I've been researching certain exhausts to try and improve efficiency to squeeze every last bit of mpg from my SE that I can, and all the other MagnaFlow videos I've heard are terrible. Too resonated. The axle-backs I've heard are so much better, but no gains to be had.
Yeah you have to hear it in real life. Try to find a car show around you if you can. That seems to be the best place I've found to get a bunch of variety.
Exiss what MPG are you averaging? I have an SE 5spd manual and if I keep it under 65 on cruise control, no wind, and 70° range of temps, I get a displayed 50 mpg or a little more. I'm all factory. Ordered the Steeda intake kit and I'm going to do a cat-back system soon.

Don't think the install was anything to sweat about for someone who may be slightly mechanically competent. Of course you're going to have to take a panel off, or cut the old system, and bolt up a couple flanges. All par for the course. Sounds like a good mellow system without being annoying. Been looking for comparisons with Flowmaster, FSWerks Stealth, Borla, and Ford Performance. The other systems were too loud, metallic, raspy, crackly. FSWerks comes in a close second to this one in my estimation (and is less expensive).
Lifted_Above I'm very mechanically competent, but for that much money the instructions should be accurate and you shouldn't have to cut any parts of the new exhaust off. There was a hanger that shouldn't be on the exhaust, and I didn't want to have to cut it an void the warranty. There was a stock flange right by where the magnaflow system starts, so magnaflow should have used it instead of having to cut the old exhaust. Then finally, when I put on the new clamps, the exhaust was still leaking a little bit no matter how I positioned them. Just little things that annoyed me, that I would expect from a junky $250 system, but not from Magnaflow.
I just got this exhaust installed yesterday! I have a K&N CAI and a bigger throttle body, but I've noticed the exhaust barely makes a difference. It sounds a little deeper from outside the car, but whenever I'm inside the car, it sounds exactly the same as with the stock exhaust on. Does it get louder overtime? I've heard Magnaflow exhausts need time to "break in."
Your best bet is to just grab a flow master 40 or 50 series(40 for louder, 50 slightly quieter) and take it to your local exhaust shop and have them put it on, keep the stock turn down look or buy a tip from the muffler shop or online. I've gone that route with my B16 civic hatch, my 93 celica gt, which is still on youtube I think and one of my toyota 4x4's.
I just test drove a 17 titanium and it didn't sound as loud as the stock portion of this video. I am probably gonna pick up a 18 SEL so I am trying to see if there's any options to make the sedan a but sportier.
Drfishstick Well I also have the K&N air intake as well, so that adds quite a bit of sound. I'm not sure what the exhaust sounds like with just the stock intake.
has anyone ever tried just a cheap slip on exhaust for these focuses? i’m looking to get some sound out of my SE but the car is on the higher end of kilometres now so i don’t want to sink a lot of money into it.
do you feel a difference in the cars hp and did it have any affect on your mpg (with the k&n intake)? im thinking of getting it cause it sounds a bit better then the stock exhaust but can't find any specs/info on it.
I don't feel any difference power wise really, other than that it sounds much better, so it probably makes it feel faster. The intake initially lowered my mpg a lot, and now I consistently get a little under 30mpg in all city driving. I keep an excel file with all of my mpg data so I can post that if you'd like.
+Dakota Alger oh. yea. i would have thought that it would give you a better mpg. im actually thinking of getting the same set up especially because i havent really been able to any other stuff. i just gotta check with the cars warranty so it won't get void because of the exhaust.
Warranty won't be voided because of the intake or exhaust. I love the mods that I did, K&N intake, magnaflow cat back exhaust, and steeda short shifter. It makes the car so much sportier but is not obnoxious at all. As far as the intake goes, the intake gives you more horse power when really stepping on it, because more air can flow, more air flow means more fuel, less mpg. If you're really gentle on it, it can give you slightly better mpg, but nothing fantastic really. But I think it sounds much more aggressive with just the intake, so I like that. The other part that sold me on the K&N is that they replace the ribbed rubber hose from the air box to the intake manifold with an aluminum pipe, and it just seems much more efficient. None of the other systems that I saw do that. Just my two cents.
I should specify about the warranty, manufacturers now have to prove that your mod caused the specific problem in order to void the warranty. So if your shocks bust, then they can't say, "well you modded your exhaust, so we aren't fixing your car." It's against the law. I can't remember the actual law though, but that's the general idea.
+Dakota Alger true the k&n intake system is really nice and it includes every thing and price range isnt bad also. just kinda sucks that there isnt much out there for the se model like there is for the st.
It "feels" quicker, but I'm not really sure about actual numbers. I drove it without the intake for nearly two years, and the second I finished install it, I drove it around and it felt quicker then for sure, but I may have just be excited. The short shifter felt like it made the most difference to me (if you have a manual that is...). I really like the exhaust, but the short shifter and intake IMHO is what makes the difference.
For 5spd manuals, I've seen dyno results for the Magnaflow and similar intake systems and the gains are about 15 hp and 15 torque at the wheels. I understand people are not after unbelievable power from the base Focus because there is an ST and RS for that (and Mustang GT for RS money). But some gains in mpg, sound, and performance for this price range isn't bad. A set of light weight wheels is also something to consider, reducing unsprung mass is good for accelerating, braking, traction, and turning. I have 16" factory alloys on my '15 Focus SE, and per my research they are 25 pounds a piece. Aftermarket can get me 18 pounds a piece. BIG difference, about 7 pounds of mass per wheel. Of course tire weight has to be considered as well.
WithTheBears Yes, I have the K&N intake. From all my researching it seemed like the best put together system. A lot of the other ones looked cheap. Since it's under the hood, may not matter. I definitely noticed more of a pickup from the intake than I did from the exhaust. If I could only do one, I'd do the intake cuz it was super easy to install (especially compared to the exhaust) and I really like the sound it gave the car. Just makes it not feel so factory.
It was never an option. Way to expensive for me at this moment. I just graduated from college, so maybe eventually. But what I love about the SE is that it can feel sporty, but still be economical. I've been getting over 30 mpg lately, and yet it's pretty peppy.
+michael levesque No, this was a full swap. I used the entire system. To be fair, it hadn't really been broken in yet, so it sounds a little louder now. The end of the video is the best representation of how it sounds in the cabin because that was after putting about 200 miles on the exhaust.
has anyone ever tried just a cheap slip on exhaust for these focuses? i’m looking to get some sound out of my SE but the car is on the higher end of kilometres now so i don’t want to sink a lot of money into it.
From when I got the car brand new, up until I installed the intake and exhaust I was getting 31.49 MPG overall (I keep a pretty accurate log every time I get gas). Since September, which is when I installed the exhaust, I have gotten an average of 30.97 MPG. So not a huge change. But the sound is much better. But really the intake seemed to be the best bang for the buck. With that my MPG seemed to go up slightly, but I only had it on for 2 months before I put the exhaust on, so I can't really say that conclusively. The car is definitely more fun to drive with the intake.
This video is amazing. Very helpful and shows the exhaust sound perfectly. So many videos just put it on and rev it a little.

Charley Frelier better flowing air filter will improve mpg
That 2 liter has a really nice, almost Honda-like intake sound, I think they sound pretty good.

Why was Magnaflow cabin sound so muted? Is that actually the case that it's quieter than stock?
Nice video man.
This person went in depth for the exhaust.
