Hi , I use rewetting drops once in awhile . I wear contacts (20 plus years ) and my eyes get drier and irritated , gritty as I get older with them in or out . Trying to find something safe to use ? Thanks !
@@natedillard7353 Thanks for sharing. I highly recommend preservative-free tears as a safe place to start. If the dryness gets worse, you may need to escalate to prescription dry eye medications. Best of luck!
I've not found anything that helps me as much as Systane Ultra PF. I'm an EBMD patient with some signs of meibomian gland dysfunction according to imaging I had done. I've tried Refresh Relieva, Refresh Optive Advanced, Refresh Omega-3, Systane Complete, and Systane Hydration. It doesn't seem to matter....I get eye pain and smearing after a few days of anything but Systane Ultra. I've been experimenting in hopes of finding additional improvement. I do use muro drops and ointment and a heated eye mask.
I don’t know if this is bad or not, but when my eyes are dry I take the big bottle of saline that I use to store my contact lenses in and I squash some drops into each eye. I can’t help it. I’m cheap. I can get a really big bottle from the grocery store for just a few dollars.
1. Pataday extra strength in the morning 2. Systane Ultra as needed 3. Genteal gel in the tube before working outside when it’s windy 4. Eyelid cleansing wipes whenever I remember to use them
Well it is now Oct 2024, I am 75 years old, and getting closer to Cataract surgeries in November. Two weeks before my measurements visit, the Doctor put me on Systane Complete to use 3 times a day. I am still using the drops and will continue to do so up to day of first surgery on my right eye. Before all this, I have never used any eye drops or told I had any dry eyes. Seem to learn more and more watching the You Tube videos on Cataracts. There are also so many Dry eye videos on You Tube and what to use. I have also watched many of your videos. So I hope everything goes well for my surgeries in November. Thanks for this great video.
I had cateract surgery in May. My eyes are very dry & red so I tried Lumify which made the situation worse. I'm now using Refresh along with an eyelid scrub and warm compress and my eyes are feeling and looking much better.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dry eyes. I hope it gets better soon. If you are really struggling with your over-the-counter options like preservative-free tears, you may need to ask your eye doctor if there is a prescription-strength treatment they can offer you. Best of luck ❤
My wife and I each use Allaway PF for itchy eyes. Works great! NOTE: Systane Complete PF works great for our dry eyes and comes in a patented dispensing bottle - NO VIALS whatsoever!
Love blue cap rohto i dont need natural tears or have a stigma. This stuff have actually fought off eye infections for me back in the day. When using inwas told by an original Japan user to keep your eye open for air when using. 🤷🏽. Thanks for the vid 👍
Toluene? I looked at the refresh mega 3 ingredients, and I noticed that toluene is one of the inactive ingredients. Toluene is one of those products they have taken out of some nail polishes because it’s carcinogenic. So I’m wondering if you can tell me why toluene is included in this eyedrop, please.
hydraSense seems like a great drop! It's preservative-free and seems to have good ingredients. I can't speak from personal experience though since we don't have this drop readily available where I am in the US.
Any preservative-free artificial tear would be the first step. If you feel that the redness or irritation persists, I would see an eye doctor to make sure there are no other issues. Hope that helps!
I use pataway allergies! I’ve seen 4 eye doctor they said I have dry eyes all they prescription’s not working ! My right side eye it’s tearing constantly ! Dr what u recommended I should do !!! Thnx !!!
A good drop to start with is any preservative free artificial tear. These usually say PF on the box and come in individual vials or special bottles. Hope things get better ❤️
Hi Doc Michelle i am based in PH had my cataract removed early since my doctor advise me that i have close angel glaucoma and level 1 cataract. It has benn a year niw and my eye drop is Optive Fusion. Is my eye drop OK? We donot have eye drop with brand name Refresh here in PH. Thanks.
hi, may i please run something by you. its a theory i have and am wondering your thoughts. I have had lasik (im sure u rmr lol), and one of my biggest complains is SEVERE morning dry eye. my thoughts are that, during REM sleep, this movement of the eye serves as stimulation to the lacrimal functional unit and thus the eye provides lubrication/tears. However, seeing that in lasik patients there is a loss of corneal sensation n feedback, i figured this may be the underlying reason as to why my extreme morning dry eye is happening (it makes it very difficult to wake up n function). i have tried almost everything, ointments, gels, etc, even eye tapping (i thought my eyes might be staying open at night). If you have any suggestions at all on how to alleviate this it would be tremendously helpful. thanks !!!!
Hi again, hard to know exactly how to help without knowing your eyes, but if you wake up with dry eyes you might need to put in a thick ointment at night. After LASIK you lose some nerve sensation so you might need treatment for neurotrophic keratitis (serum tears, oxervate) if things are really bad. If you haven't found relief, I would suggest you ask your eye doctor for suggestions and/or seek a cornea specialist to take a look. Thanks again for your comments, and hope you get some relief soon!
@@MicheleLeeMD Thanks !!!! Yes, i think in the near future i may have to to see a cornea specialist n look into trying oxervate or serum tears. I have tried systane nightime ointment but it has not helped much. Btw, i shared your tips about not rubbing eyes with my mom as she has a bad habit of that. Also, i think thats great advice especially for post eye surgery patients.
Thanks for your comment! You can certainly combine drops just space them out 5 or more minutes apart. I will talk about it Oclumed during my cataract q&a coming out next week!
Hi there! Rohto is definitely OK to use once in a while for red eyes :) If you need something to use more frequently for symptom relief, I'd recommend checking out preservative-free tears!
Hi there, as of writing this comment, I do not and have not gotten any sponsorships or commissions from any companies, and I do not consult or receive financial incentives from any company or product. These are my professional opinions as an ophthalmologist (specifically as a cornea specialist) who treats eye disease. Visine and other vasoconstricting eye drops are universally disliked by eye professionals for the reasons I described in the video. I hope that answers your question!
LIKE EVERYONE SAY I DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE WITH EYE DROP BUSSINES ONLY MAKE A LITTLE BOTTLE AND NOT MAKE A BOTTLE AATER SIZE OR A GALLON THEY FEEL LIKE THEY WOULD LOOSE BUT I THINK IS A SCAM
What are your favorite over-the-counter eye drops? Let me know in the comments below, and thanks for watching!

Is Lumify good for dry eyes?? Thank you Doc for narrowing down the best potential preservative free eye drops for dry eyes! 💛🙏
I found that castor oil (laxative) works best for me. I keep it refrigerated. Works better than any eye drops I've tried..
Excellent list! I recommend all of these drops to my patients as well. Super Helpful!
Thanks for watching! Love your new vids - the compress one was awesome :)
