Suite No. 1 (or Fantaisie-Tableaux for two pianos), Op. 5, is a composition for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Composed in the summer of 1893 at the Lysikofs estate in Lebeden, Kharkov, this suite was initially titled Fantasie-Tableux since Rachmaninoff intended it, as he explained in a letter to his cousin Sofia Satin, to consist "of a series of musical pictures." While François-Rene Tranchefort asserts that the music illustrates four extracts of poems (written by Mikhail Lermontov, Lord Byron, Fyodor Tyutchev and Aleksey Khomyakov), Rachmaninoff biographer Max Harrison counters that while the poems "convey something of the emotional tone of the music," the music itself is not programmatic.
This work was first performed on November 30, 1893, by Rachmaninoff and Pavel Pabst in Moscow, and is dedicated to Tchaikovsky who had died just weeks prior. Rachmaninoff composed a second suite in 1901.
The four movements are:
0:00 I. Barcarolle. Allegretto, in G minor.
7:52 II. La nuit... L'amour... Adagio sostenuto, in D major. (The night...the love...)
13:39 III. Les Larmes. Largo di molto, in G minor. (The Tears)
20:16 IV. Pâques. Allegro maestoso, in G minor. (Easter) Видеоклипы
My grandpa gave me a CD with this piece for Christmas, when I was a child, almost 40 years ago. I am in love with the melody ever since.
I cannot stop listening to it. It has been at least 100 times

Full of passion and sad yearnings... the first part is like some kind of beautiful dark magic 😍🔥
4th movement is amazing, especially played that fast and the audio quality is great too.
Фантастика!!! Красивейший перезвон колоколов в этой сюите исполненый на фортепиано! Большое спасибо каналу за выложенный файл!!!
One of the best performances I've heard of this gorgeous piece; a work of this type that is only surpassed by Rachmaninoff's Second Suite for Two Pianos.
Well, I prefer this Suite

Best version I've heard!
Stunning performance by two of the world's greatest pianists.
Mesmerizing beauty...Phenomenal interpretation...
I'm very familiar with this piece and had heard it played by more well- known pianists like Ashkenazi, Argerich, etc but I instantly prefer this version by Ingryd Thorson and Julian Thurber
Dude, your comments are on a lot of classical music videos. Like a ton!!!! By the way, Helene Grimaud does know how to play Chopin!!!!
The two pianos sing so well together, I feel like dancing!
Beautiful performance; lovely! Thank you🌹
no puedo parar... esto es una droga!!! viva Rachmaninoff...
autor de las melodias mas hermosas para mi gusto,,,,
Rachmaninoff's melodies are exquisite, the product of genius, like so many other ones by him,: the second piano concerto, the Elegie no. 3, the suite for two pianos no. 1, and the list is interminable. In his melodic ability is equal to Chopin, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, and the other great masters of melody. Gabe Meruelo.
The second movement reminds me of Liszt. The whole suite is shimmering with beauty.
There have been many good duo-pianists, but often they play well together because they have eschewed freedom and spontaneity....this duo plays with the abandon of a great solo pianist...but they do it together! Very rare.....
Beautiful chord changes."I do not believe in the artist that discloses too much of his images. Let [the listener] paint for themselves what it most suggests." (Rachmaninoff)
best version on RUclips

Beautiful indeed!
Really love "The Tears"!!!
9:40 is just lovely....
Rachy never disappoints!
I took a trip to Bangkok and sounds of the birds Rachy paints are heard at night. Wonderful. Also, must thank William Griggsby for introducing me to “The Bells” while I was a lad at City College, Baltimore. It started a life long infatuation with Rachy
I've been to where that picture is! It's in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. Really beautiful lake.

7:06 - 7:33. 👌
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I couldn't help but wonder what piano/pianos are being played. The high treble sounds like could be a Bosendorfer?
+chromz158 Bluthners can sound like that...and I know a Petrov which does...Not a Steinway,I think.
20:16
Tremendamente sensible, desde su mas interior. Desgarra el alma del que lo escucha y te eleva.
7:06-7:20 He prepared everything for this moment.
....you mean 7:06-7:33
Could this marvelous cmposition be transcribed for piano and violin? If so, it would be a perfect chance for the world to hear it performed by the incredibly talented brothers Bessonov, Ivan on piano and his brother, Daniil on violin..
Ausgezeichnet
'The Tears' -- Me: 😥😪😭
'Easter' -- Me: 😲
I love the background on this video.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
❤️👍🎹
The "Rach" is Vladimir Putin's favorite composer, and this is his favorite composition.
So much for the delightful Russian guy in some documentary who says no one can be evil and love Rachmaninoff. Or wait, so much for believing everything you read on RUclips maybe?
Rach was a God, but this performance is spellbinding. Gorgeous.
Better than most, but Vronsky & Babin still the top of the heap (1963 RCA Red Seal)
7:05 to 7:17 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Federico Noto yes, it’s hard a f.
Its not that hard i’m playing this with a partner and its quite easy. It just sounds harder because theres 2 people playing at once. There are much harder moments in this piece. The only problem with this moment I can think of is coordination
13:39 Requiem for a dream theme
22:40
Snippets of Russian Easter Overture all through the last movement.
bellisima. una repeticion divina.
so beautifull why dont they play it more regularley on concert halls we had enough of bethoven and mozartits time for alkan mocheles zxarney
9:24 Mephisto Waltz Nr.1 quote? :))
Where was this picture taken?
I remember watching another video of this piece that had a different interpretation (which I preferred over this one) and the sheet music scrolling along with the music... Does anyone know where I can find that version? It was much better, especially the fourth movement.
+Eric Cooper personally i prefer this one over any other that i have listened to. I have a theory that the first one you enjoy becomes your standard of comparison. for me it was this one, so i always seem to think other interpretations are too slow, too fast, or Godamn irritating! But however true or false this is, i don't mean to discourage you on your search for the interpretation that suits you best. After all, one should enjoy music, no be forced into it. Peace .\//,_,
+Minab Asfaha I share the theory ,I think it happened to me with chopin s ballade 1
old school trance
Reminds me of Harry Potter
When that stupid house elf Doby drops the cake on his aunt's head. Exactly!😉
